We will be getting together ahead of the Pageant Mass, so that when the special night arrives there will be a Heavenly Host spread throughout the entire church, from the players on the altar, to the congregation to the loft.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR CHRIST-MAS—This Sunday begins Advent—a four-week rush to Christmas—are you ready? You are, if you paid no attention to Black Friday. This is the one month we love and hate. Be kind to yourself this month: pray these 2 verses of Psalm 25 each day of December.
This psalm we recite between the first and second reading this weekend. You will not recall the readings, but take these few lines as a daily prayer for Advent. This is an easier, better, and cheaper way to prepare for Christmas!
AND ANOTHER WAY TO PREPARE FOR CHRISTMAS THAT COSTS NOTHING AND YOU’LL ENJOY IT—Next Sunday afternoon (2:30pm), our musical choirs will gather for a com-munity singing of Christmas carols. Giving trees
Sacred Heart Parish will continue our tradition of our Christmas Giving Trees to benefit the Italian Home for Children. Trees are set up in both the upper and lower churches during Ad-vent decorated with ornaments which have a child’s name, age and wish list for Christmas. Please take a tag, purchase the requested item, then attach the tag to the unwrapped gift and place it under the tree. Please do not wrap the gifts. All gifts should be received by Sunday, December 20 to allow the staff of the Italian Home to prepare for Christmas.The staff and children of the Italian Home appreciate your continued generosity.
Today’s Liturgy
For the first Sunday of Advent, Luke is telling us to be vigilant at all times and to be able to stand before the Son of Man. Luke tells the story of Jesus talking to the disciples about the signs in the sun, moon, stars and here on earth that may frighten us in anticipation of what is coming.
We are preparing for the coming of the Lord. Yet it is no different in our secular lives that we always need to be prepared. We turn to the Lord to give thanks as we celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend. Our Lord is also here for us in our time of grief. Two weeks ago we stood united with the people of France and we still do today. Sometimes we put our best foot forward in a time of crisis because we know that we need to act and the time is now.
We don’t really know what the future holds but we can be prepared for what is to come. Our world isn’t the friendliest place these days. We need to adjust our thoughts and plans every so often in order to be pre-pared. But by standing tall as the Lord tells us is a way to let others know we are alert to our surround-ings and will be ready for anything, including the coming of the Lord.
The season upon us can be a difficult time for some. Whatever the reason we should be aware of those who are depressed or have difficulty getting through Ad-vent and Christmas. Be open to those who may need to talk. Our kind words could help some people through this time of year. Pope Francis earlier this year asked us to help each other out in time of need. This is one small way in our lives today that by stand-ing tall and alert that we can assist someone to be pre-pared for the coming of the Lord. PRIMER DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO
1ª lectura:
(Jr, 33,14-16 ) El Mesías esperado descendiente de David, vendrá y revelará a Dios,que verdaderamente es nuestra justicia.
2ª lectura: (
1 Tes. 3, 12-4, 2 ) La esperanza cristiana se abraza con el amor en su dimensión universal, llegandomás allá de toda frontera, de toda discriminación y de todo condicionamiento.
Evangelio:
(Lc. 21, 25-28. 34-36 ) Jesús nos dice que debemos estar siempre preparados para recibirlo cuandovuelva.
Hoy iniciamos el período del adviento y, con el
ad-viento, comenzamos también otro año litúrgico.
To-do inicio trae siempre a nuestro corazón una nueva
esperanza. Pero no sólo. Adviento es también el
tiempo de la "espera" por antonomasia: la espera del
Mesías, del nacimiento de Cristo en la navidad. Éste
es uno de los mensajes más fuertes de este período:
la esperanza de tiempos mejores. Es éste uno de los
anhelos más profundos del espíritu humano.
El profeta Jeremías nos habla así en la primera
lectu-ra: "Mirad que llegan días -oráculo del Señor- en que
cumpliré la promesa que hice a la casa de Israel:
sus-citaré un vástago legítimo, que hará justicia y
dere-cho en la tierra. En aquellos días se salvará Jerusalén
y sus hijos vivirán en paz". ¿Qué mejor noticia que
ésta podía recibir un pueblo desolado, después de la
destrucción de Jerusalén y la deportación a
Babilo-nia? Esperaban al Mesías, que traería la paz, la
justi-cia, el derecho, la salvación. Y el Evangelio se
colo-ca en esta misma perspectiva: "Entonces verán al
Hi-jo del hombre venir en una nube, con gran poder y
majestad. Cuando empiece a suceder esto, levantaos,
alzad la cabeza: se acerca vuestra liberación". Es
verdad que el lenguaje que usa nuestro Señor es el
apocalíptico. Pero está enmarcado en un contexto de
esperanza y de salvación. Cristo habla de su retorno
glorioso al final de los tiempos, sí; pero la esperanza
es también para el "hoy" de nuestra vida presente.
La esperanza es una necesidad vital en el ser
hu-mano. Es como el oxígeno o el pan de cada día. Es
más, me atrevería a decir que el hombre, en su
reali-dad existencial más profunda, no es sino capacireali-dad
de esperar, de proyectarse hacia el futuro, de
"trascenderse". ¡Vivir es esperar! Todos en la vida
tenemos horas oscuras, tristes y amargas, en las que
vemos todo negro. La esperanza no es un fácil
idea-lismo o el sueño utópico de personas románticas que
ven todo de color de rosa. Para esperar se necesita
mucha fortaleza, mucho valor y un gran temple
por-que el por-que espera es dueño de sí mismo, a pesar de
todas las dificultades; y, sobre todo, pone en manos
de Dios el timón de la propia existencia.

« Es propio de Dios usar misericordia y especialmente en esto se manifiesta su omnipotencia ». 6.[5] Las palabras de santo Tomás de Aquino muestran cuánto la misericor-dia divina no sea en absoluto un signo de debilidad, sino más bien la cualidad de la omnipotencia de Dios. Es por esto que la liturgia, en una de las colectas más antiguas, invita a orar diciendo: « Oh Dios que revelas tu omnipo-tencia sobre todo en la misericordia y el perdón ».[6] Dios será siempre para la humanidad como Aquel que está pre-sente, cercano, providente, santo y misericordioso. “Paciente y misericordioso” es el binomio que a menudo aparece en el Antiguo Testamento para describir la natu-raleza de Dios. Su ser misericordioso se constata concre-tamente en tantas acciones de la historia de la salvación donde su bondad prevalece por encima del castigo y la destrucción. Los Salmos, en modo particular, destacan esta grandeza del proceder divino: « Él perdona todas tus culpas, y cura todas tus dolencias; rescata tu vida del se-pulcro, te corona de gracia y de misericordia » (103,3-4).
