PRESIDENT’S LETTER
Where has the time gone? We’re already over half way through the year and the shooting season seems to have just started. We have a lot going on at the club with the Centennial Cup Matches still going and the picnic fast approaching followed by the annual meeting. Oh yeah and we’re building a new range as well. There is a lot going on at Miami Rifle and Pistol the rest of the year.
Tragically as most of you know Jim Baker the owner of KayJay Guns was killed by an accidental discharge.
This illustrates the need to be ever vigilant when it comes to firearm safety, especially with people new to the sport, but even veterans need to keep it as a first priority. Accidents happen quickly with life changing everlasting consequences. Once the round has gone off there is no calling back the bullet and it can even go through walls. Please for the sake of everyone around you take gun safety seriously.
In September we’ll have the annual picnic with all the good food that is usually available and the BB gun range come out and enjoy meeting with your fellow club members.
Also there is the annual meeting in October where we’ll give out the awards, including the award of the Centennial Cup, give away some
door prizes (including a very special Centennial themed prize) and elect three new board members. This is an all-volunteer board that handles the day to day business of the club.
Board members lend their time and expertise to make Miami Rifle and Pistol Club a premier club. With over 2100 members and almost a 4 year wait to become a member we must be doing something right. Out of all these members I’m sure we can find at least three volunteers willing to donate a little time for the good of the club. If you’re interested in running for the board please contact me via email.
With all that’s going on these days with respect to our police being even more of a target and in harm’s way I would like to thank Saturday Steel for coming forward in support of Shield.
You can read more about it in the article. It’s extremely important our officers know we fully support them.
This request was made prior to the most recent events, which in a way makes it all that more meaningful.

Finally what’s going on with the new Multi-Purpose Range? The permits have been released and construction should begin in early August effectively closing pistol pits 1 and 2.
Luckily we have three new pits on the upper pistol range that are available during construction.
It’s going to be a busy rest of the year, see you on the range, and always BE SAFE!

NEWS & REMINDERS
ATTENTION CLUB MEMBERS
Due to the death of Kay Jay Gun Shop owner, Jim Baker, all Kay Jay training classes have been canceled as the business is closed. June 4th winners of training classes with Kay Jay will be unable to collect those prizes. The Board and Centennial Committee understand the winners’ dismay but this is truly an extraordinary circumstance. Please look forward to some upcoming training opportunities that the club will be providing.
As you might have heard, Jim Baker, owner of Kay Jay Gun Shop, died Saturday in a tragic training accident.
Jim had presented two of his custom rifles to the winners of the MRPC First Round Down Range drawing at our Centennial Celebration just two weeks ago. It’s a great loss not only to his family and friends but to our local shooting sports and 2nd amendment community. Please join me with your prayers for Jim’s wife and family for their loss.

Safety is always important so if you have a safety question you want addressed by the BOD we suggest you send an email to them directly with your question.
You can send it to president@miamirifle- pistol.org if you want. The question will go directly to the President and you will get your answer quicker as opposed to posting anonymously to an internet forum that is monitored as we have time.
CLUB NOTICE
MRPC is now looking for members to serve on the Board of Directors starting in November.
There will be vacancies on the nine-member board.
Interested members should have:
• An interest in shooting and the shooting sports
• A desire to see MRPC continue as a premier rifle and pistol club in the state of Ohio
• An ability to work with others in a committee fashion
• Have approximately 1 day per month to complete assigned duties
• Be able to attend monthly Board meetings (first Wed. of each month) You must be a member in good standing for two years.
• Candidates will be voted on during general elections at the annual meeting on October 15th.

The Centennial Celebration on June 4th was well attended by an estimated 450-475 attendees who enjoyed the excellent BBQ and many conversations with other members while listening for their prize drawing number to be called by our MC, Dave Olmstead. Prizes ranged from 2 custom rifles by Kay Jay, Vertx shirts/
jackets/bags, Sierra reloading supplies gift certificates, to 10 one-year MRPC memberships. Suffice it to say that there were many happy campers at the end of the day!
This wouldn’t have happened without the help of the Centennial Committee. I’m grateful for their support and hard work as we first met in August 2015 to start planning. Many thanks to the following: Jerry Cashman, Bob Getto, Steve Hicks, Dave Olmstead, Michael Voto and Harald Zeiger. If you see them at the club please shake their hands or slap them on the back for a job well done.
Also crucial to the end result were those members who answered my e-blast cry for help 3 days before the event for 2 days of cleaning and prep at the club plus those who volunteered to help on the day of the event.
You pitched in and cheerfully worked while others were eating and winning prizes!! I thank you all as well!
Thank you to Sean, a member, who just happened to walk past wearing a camera around his neck. I realized our usual photographer was home sick and asked Sean
to take pictures. He stepped up and started clicking away. He later delivered a memory stick full of pictures.
Thanks also to Mike Owsley, our grounds keeper, and the Board, for all the support and encouragement.
