Las Positas College is in an ideal location to access many world renown attractions. Our proximity to the major Bay Area cities such as San Francisco, San Jose, Oakland, and Berkeley provides many unique cultural opportunities.

Visit several museums, libraries, art galleries, aquariums, planetariums, theaters, sports events, and concerts in the immediate surrounding area. Las Positas’ nearness to the Pacific Ocean and Sierra Nevada mountains offers excellent recreational activities. The Pacific Coast is 1.5 hours to the west, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite National Park are 4 to 5 hours to the east, Silicon Valley is 1 hour to the south, and the Napa Valley is 2 hours to the north.

Livermore, a mid-sized city with approximately 80,000 residents, is surrounded by vineyards and golden hillsides and is less than an hour from San Francisco. Livermore is ideally located for trips to the mountains or the ocean.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

Las Positas College is a public institution accredited by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Educational institutions such as the University of California and California State University systems, and private colleges and universities give full credit for equivalent courses taken at Las Positas College. Complementing our excellent academic programs are a variety of student support services designed to give you the personal attention needed to help you succeed.

Las Positas College offers a comprehensive English as a Second Language (ESL) Program with instruction designed to advance your academic English language skills of reading, writing, grammar, and oral communication. There are six levels of ESL instruction, beginning at the introductory level to the advanced level, preparing students for academic success. Our ESL program acts as a bridge to the demands of taking full-time academic courses at a U.S. College while enabling you to be an important part of our Campus community. The ESL curriculum is designed to allow students to take academic courses along with ESL as their proficiency increases. To increase student success, tutoring is provided at no additional cost to all ESL and International students. A TOEFL or IELTS exam is not required for admission. After arrival at our College, you will be given an English language placement test that determines your necessary level of English instruction.

I chose Las Positas College because it was affordable and the location was great.

When I finish my studies at LPC, I plan to transfer to a University to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. I believe that my teachers and classes at LPC have prepared me to succeed at any top University.

Homestay

One of the best ways to improve your English and learn about American customs is to stay with an American family while studying here in the U.S. LPC has contracted with International Student Placements to help students in finding safe and affordable housing in a quality, prescreened host home.

Dormitory

LPC has made an agreement with California State University, East Bay (CSU-EB) that allows students to live in student housing located on the CSU-EB campus in nearby hayward. Public transportation is available to and from campus.

Other types of arrangements can be found in the community, including shared housing and individual apartments/houses. Students are encouraged to visit our website or contact the International Student Program Office for more information.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT UNIVERSITY TRANSFER PAThWAY

Las Positas College maintains guaranteed Transfer Admission Agreements with several colleges and universities. Transfer Admission Agreements (TAA) allow eligible students to write a contract with 4-year universities. These agreements provide guaranteed admissions upon fulfillment of the contract.
