Geometry Fundamentals Triangle Project

Triangle Artwork

Introduction: For this project you will work individually creating a project using nothing but triangles. You will create a piece of original artwork on large grid poster board. Your project will be created using only triangles and will be graded on the originality and neatness of the project.

Objective:The objective of this project is to use the concepts learned in Chapters 6-9 and create an original piece of artwork that incorporates congruent triangles and their

properties.

Materials:

Geometry textbooks large grid poster board rulers protractors crayons pencils colored pencils Criteria:

Part 1 - Artwork (Test Grade):

You will be creating a piece of artworkusing triangles and triangles only. NOother shapes are permitted in your project. If you want any other shapes, you must make them out of triangles. Be creative and colorful in your design using crayons or colored pencils only (no markers).

to see examples of artwork using triangles. Your design must include the following:

acute triangles obtuse triangles right triangles scalene triangles equilateral/equiangular triangles isosceles triangles

congruent triangles that can be proven by using SSS, SAS, ASA, and AAS You may use as little or as many of the above mentioned triangles in your artwork; however,

Part 2 - Written Report (Test Grade):

In addition to your physical project you will also need to complete a written aspect of the project. You are required to use several different types of triangles in your project along with their properties. In order to prove your learning, you will be required to write a 1-2 page paperin MLA formatexplaining your artwork and the different types of triangles used to create your project. This report will be submitted through Turn It Inonly. No other method of submission will be accepted.

Criteria for the written report includes:

Paragraph 1: introduction

Paragraph 2: provide detailed explanations and descriptions of your artwork: how were you inspired to create your artwork, what inspired you to create your artwork, what does your artwork represent, etc.

Paragraph 3: describe how you used the different types of triangles listed above along with a an explanation of the process used in creating the image(s) in your artwork; how did you incorporate the properties of triangles (SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS), include how to determine the congruency of triangles based on SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS (what is required to determine congruency based on these postulates/theorems)

Paragraph 4: explain how two or more of the concepts in Chapter 4 relate to the real world or how they can be applied to the real world with specific examples, details, reasons, and explanations

Paragraph 5: provide your opinion of the project: how do you feel about your final product, did you enjoy the project, do you feel it reinforced what you learned in the chapter, etc. Paragraph 6: write a concluding paragraph briefly summarizing your paper

30% based on classification of triangles on page 194 of text All triangles on page 194 of the Geometry textbook are used in the artwork and represented correctly. 1-2 triangles on page 194 of the Geometry textbook are missing from the artwork

3-4 triangles on page 194 of the Geometry textbook are missing from the artwork 5 or more triangles on page 194 of the Geometry textbook are missing from the artwork

30% based on properties of triangles

All five properties of congruent triangles are evident in artwork (SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, HL) and are represented correctly. One property of congruent triangles is missing (SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, HL). Two properties of congruent triangles are missing (SSS, SAS, ASA, AAS, HL).

Three or more of the properties of congruent triangles are not represented in the artwork. 10% based the percentage of triangles used in artwork

Entire poster board is covered with 90% representing triangles Minimal white of poster board is exposed and/or is mostly covered with triangles.

50% or more of white is exposed on the poster board and/or is minimally covered in triangles. More than 50% of white is exposed on poster board and/or very few triangles are used.

10% based on

neatness Project is neat andclearly thought out and planned. Project incorporates a wide variety of colors. Project was rushed, messy, and not taken seriously. Few or no color was used in the project 20% based on proper tools used Project is completed using a straight edge on all lines.

Project is completed using a straight edge on more than ½ of the lines.

Project is

completed using a straight edge on less than ½ of the

Project is completed without a straight edge.
