TransUnion Auto Information Solutions – Dealers’ Guide

Mobile Application

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the TransUnion Dealers’ Guide application?

A: The TransUnion Dealers’ Guide application provides subscribing car dealers with an instant, anywhere, anytime integrated report on the value and status of a specific vehicle.

Q: What information is accessible through the application?

A: TransUnion Auto Information Solutions subscribers can access the latest South African trade and retail values (previously known as the M&M value) for the following types of used vehicles in the South African market:

• Passenger vehicles

• Light commercial vehicles • Medium commercial vehicles • Heavy commercial vehicles • Motorbikes

These values include the current year price as well as estimated values and the application will adjust for mileage and condition automatically.

The application converges vehicle pedigree and vehicle values in one simple and easy to use delivery mechanism. Determine your used vehicles trade and retail values as well as purchase a TransUnion Verification Report (previously known as an HPI Report).

Q: What is a verification report?

A: A verification report details the following information pertaining to a vehicle based on the vehicles registration or VIN:

• OEM details (manufacturer) – What the vehicle was manufactured as, for example: a white Audi A5 2l TFSI Quattro Sportback.

• Financed status and history – Is the vehicle currently financed and what is the finance history?

• Micro-dotting details – What are the vehicles Micro-dotting details. Is it Micro-dotted and if so, what are those details.

• Accident claim history – Have there been accident claims against that vehicle and how much was the claim.

• SAPS status – Does the vehicle have a SAPS mark. Is it currently marked as stolen? • SADC cloned status – Is the vehicle a potential cloned vehicle in the SADC region. • Mileage history – What is the mileage history that we have for that vehicle in our

2 Q: What makes the TransUnion Dealers’ Guide Application different to other valuation and verification products currently available?

A: It is the only product that converges vehicle verification and valuation data into a single, intelligent vehicle valuation report. This gives dealers almost everything they need to know to make an informed buying or selling decision about a specific passenger or commercial vehicle or motorbike.

Q: How does the dealer obtain the information?

A: The dealer enters the vehicle’s registration number (VIN and engine number are not

required) into the app. A full vehicle valuation report containing details of the vehicle’s valuation as well as its “pedigree” as contained in standard TransUnion vehicle verification reports is delivered almost instantaneously to the dealer’s smartphone or tablet.

Q: What is a registration and VIN?

A: Every vehicle in South Africa has a registration number (reg. number), this is what appears on the number plate of the vehicle, for example WXR786GP or CA 456243.

The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is the 17 digit number that is used to uniquely identify the vehicle.

Q: Where can I find my VIN?

A: The 17 digit VIN can be found on the licence disk on your windscreen or in the engine compartment.

Q: Which devices do you currently support?

A: We currently support the following operating systems and devices: ● All Apple® iPhones and iPads

● All AndroidTM devices (phones and tablets)

● Blackberry® phones (OS version 5 and above) as well as the Blackberry Playbook

Q: Why no support for Nokia?

A: We are in the process of developing the application for Nokia devices that run the Windows Mobile version. This is due to be released towards the end on the 2nd Quarter 2012.

Q: Can motor dealers who don’t have access to a smartphone or tablet use the app? A: Yes. They can log in to the TransUnion App website at www.dealersguide.co.za using their PCs or laptops.

(5)

3 Q: I can’t find my vehicle’s registration number, why is this?

A: We currently have a comprehensive database for VIN’s, but the reg. number information is not always available due to a number of factors. For example, the reg. number may not be available by the time we get the data from suppliers, but we are working hard at increasing the density of this data and the application is designed to learn from any VIN/reg. entries.

Q: I use my registration number but the incorrect vehicle comes up. What now?

A: There is a very small chance that this could happen. Because we do not have a link to the eNatis system, we are not notified when someone changes a reg. number, or when that reg. number is re-allocated to a different car (as often happens in KZN and the WC). If this happens, please send a picture of your vehicles licence disk to [email protected] and we will update the records.

Q: Who is eNatis?

A: The National Traffic Information System (eNaTiS) is the official register for all vehicles, driving licences and contraventions.

Q: What personal data do you collect about me when I use this application?

A: We do not collect ANY personally identifiable data when you are using this application. We do however keep the following set of data each time the application is used:

● The device make ● The device model

● The operating system name

● The operating system version number

This information is collected in order to help us track problems on particular devices as well as to generate aggregate statistics. The data will be stored and managed in accordance with the relevant South African Legislation dealing with data storage and management.

Q: What is the difference between a “Year of First Registration” and a “Year of Manufacture”?

A: The year of manufacture is the year the car was manufactured, as opposed to the year that it is first registered on eNatis. Conceivably your car might have been made in October 2010, but you bought it new in January 2011. That makes the year of first registration as 2011, but the year of manufacture is 2010.

(6)

4 Q: Why don’t you know both years?

A: We know when the vehicle is manufactured, but as we do not have a connection to eNatis, we do not know when the vehicle was registered. We do have other sources where we get this information from but it is not a 100% complete match.

Q: Will I get estimated values?

A: The values that we display are the TransUnion Auto values that you would find in the Auto Dealers’ Guide - Printed Version. However, you will also get ‘Estimated Values’. Estimated values are values that are not in the printed guide and are typically on vehicles that are not volume sellers. The values are then estimated by the team and not statistically derived from the market returns.

Q: Can I get historical values?

A: Historical values means that you would like to know what the trade and retail values were at a date in the past, as opposed to the current month that we are in. Currently you cannot view historical values, but this is part of the next version that is expected in the end of the 3rd Quarter 2012.

Q: Will the app load the vehicle’s optional extra’s?

A: The application will tell you what Factory Fitted extras were available to be fitted to that make and model during that year. You need to choose which applies to your vehicle. With regards aftermarket extras we currently do not cater for this.

Q: Can I use the app to adjust for Mileage / Condition / Factory Fitted Optional Extras? A: Yes. The application by default shows the unadjusted values (as you would see in the Auto Dealers’ Guide - Printed Version). However you can use the handy toggles in the application to apply these extra moderators to the Trade and Retail values.

Q: Will I get similar info as per the guide e.g. High, Low, No.?

A: Yes, you will get what the printed guide gives you and more. You will also get specially developed indicators to warn you about the potential mileage accuracy risk as well as potential accident history risk.

Q: How much does a vehicle Verification report cost?

A: The vehicle Verification report is priced as per the standard billing price associated with your dealership.

(7)

5 Q: What payment options are available?

A: This version is post paid only. You need to have a valuations and a verifications account with us and we will add it to your existing invoices.

Q: Who do I contact to advertise on the app?

A: You can contact us at [email protected] to obtain our rates. We have limited advertising slots available.
