The participation to the Conference is free but the reservation is required. Contributions by participants (papers or presentations) are welcome.

The official language of the Conference is English.

Conference Finality

The Conference is focused on the military simulations. Dedicated to facilitating simulation interoperability across a wide spectrum of discusses, the Conference will provide the opportunity to meet the M&S HLA community, mainly oriented to naval applications. The following HLA simulation aspects will be discussed:

• SBA – Simulation Based Acquisition & User Requirements

• SSD – Support to System Design and life cycle

• MoE Evaluation & Trials

• System Modelling & HLA Federation

• HLA Standardization

• Simulation & Training

Call for papers

Abstracts of papers or presentations (about 300 words) can be sent to the Technical Commetee. After their acceptance, conditioned also to the available time in the Conference Agenda, final papers (between 1500 and 2500 words) in Word format or final presentations (between 20 and 30 slides) in PowerPoint format will be sent.

All received documentation will not be given back to the authors and, if accepted, will be used to prepare the Conference Proceedings.

SBA - Simulation Based Acquisition & User Requirements

Analysis of user requirements using HLA simulation to study complex system feasibility or to introduce new functions&apparatus in existing systems. Moving from laboratory (R&D) models to commercial (Defence contractors) models to reduce integration risk and assist system improvements throughout a ship’s life cycle.

SSD - Support to System Design and life cycle

Implementation of Simulation Environments and Virtual Prototypes to support the analysis and the design of complex systems: functionalities, doctrines, strategy etc.

MOE Evaluation & Trials

Use of the Federation to evaluate the performance of the systems, i.e. their the Measurement Of Effectiveness in different operational scenarios.

System Modelling & HLA Federations

Integration of legacy simulators in HLA Federations using Gateways.

Issues relatives to modelling complex system considering HLA rules and service (i.e Time Management, Data Distribution Management, Real Time vs As-Fast-As-Possible behaviour, etc.) and commercial RTI performance.

Standardization

The state of art of HLA standardization initiatives at international level for Naval applications

Simulation & Training

Implementation of simulators to support operator training, i.e. HMI, automatic aids etc.

Orizzonte Sistemi Navali,

established in December 2002, is the sole Italian Prime Contractor and Design Authority for supply of turn-key naval surface vessels with high technological content.

Actually OSN is the prime contractor for the FREMM program that is a cooperative programme between the Italian and French Navies for the supply of 27 (10 to Italy, 17 to France) New Generation Multimission Frigates (Anti Submarine Warfare-ASW, Land Attack, Multipurpose) that will be in service in the next decade.

OSN started to work on HLA since 2001 with a project called VISION (Virtual Ship simulatION). The Early Prototype of the project is oriented to AAW (Anti Air Warfare) missions.

This project was presented in different Conferences and Workshops:

• Summer Computer Simulation Conference 2003 – MONTREAL (Canada)

• MIMOS 2004 – Movimento Italiano Modellazione e Simulazione. TORINO (Italy)

• Euro-SIW-2004 – European Simulation Interoperability Workshop – EDINBURGH 2004
