TERM 3

July

12th Term 3 Begins

18th June 2021 Korumburra Wonthaggi Road Kongwak 3951 ph.: 56 574 224 e:[email protected]

Principal: Mr Brett Smith

Our Vision: To enable all students to achieve their full potential and to develop into confident, well-rounded citizens.

It was great to see the students so engaged with their learning

yesterday. The weaving and artwork they have been doing with Cassie is extraordinary. The eel traps are amazing in how they are

constructed and ‘move’ to confuse the eels.

The students are currently working on a collective art piece which is going to be a surprise– can’t wait.

Next visit they will be burning the next story frames on the possum skins. I believe that is called pyrography-I’m

curious to know the First Nations word is.

Ask your children what this piece represents.

Thanks to Riley and Tahlia for giving a virtual

school tour via Zoom via my phone.

SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS

School Council met Wednesday by Zoom. The Mobile Phone policy and Yard Supervision policy were

updated and will be loaded to the school’s website shortly.

“We at Inverloch and Kongwak Primary Schools, acknowledge that we live and learn on

the traditional lands of the Boon wurrung and Bunurong people. We pay respect to the Elders past and present, and pay respect to the emerging leaders in our schools.”

The enrolment strategy was discussed and the plans for the streetscape. We may need a working bee for some elements of that project-stay tuned.

STREETSCAPE

The students’ design were used to design the front of the school.

Elements from each one have been incorporated into the final design. Yesterday Virginia and I scoped out the final plans on the ground to see how the various elements worked and flowed together. Work will commence shortly.

ACCA PERMISSION NOTICE Thank you to the families who have promptly returned the consent form for student photos to be published on the ACCA website etc. If you are yet to do so, please return to school asap.

AUNTY CASSIE IS BACK

After our eventful fortnight with lockdowns, floods, and power outages It was great to

Thank You

&

have Aunty Cas back! All students enjoyed glaz- ing their clay pots with the wattle sap and then moving forward with the weaving. Challenging, yet rewarding days, as everyone used their persis- tence, resilience, and patience to move forward in their learning. We may have some incredible eel traps, pots, bags, and baskets all made by natural resources and our kids by the end of next week.

GARDENING / SUSTAINABLE KONGWAK

Last week we planted some of our spinach and beetroot seedlings that had sprouted in the hot house. We also tried to create a worm farm out of a bathtub. We watched Costa on Gardening Australia and re-cycled lots of materials and made it together last Friday when some of us made it to school!

This Week’s Student Acknowledgments!

Awarded by some of our leaders:

Art: Logan. Wow, he concentrated hard and worked well on his weaving. He even spent lunch time weaving and he taught some other kids too. Isla

Sport: Will B for putting his hand up to teach Indigenous Games for Huff n Puff once he has completed his research for his project. Ethan

Eco: We have a new worm farm that we created last week, and yesterday Tahlia and Violet helped me feed the chicken and worms this week. Kei

Community: Riley, for taking the possible new student on a virtual tour yester- day, at the last minute. (Oh, for doing it on Open Day too with all the parents!) Tahlia

JSL has had some quiet time recently, but they are coming together today to look at the market stall survey they ran a few weeks back. They were very excited with the student re- sponse - hopefully, these kid markets will be ready to run next term. Watch this space.

Also, just before lockdown, April suggested to JSL to apply for a buddy bench through COLES. The school had to explain how they are sustainable. Riley, April and Mikayla did a stirling job writing a persuasive application and we wish them all the best! A buddy bench would be a great addition to the new garden.

Next term we will start HOT FOOD LUNCHES every Friday - woohoo!

All students to bring their own food in tin foil to be warmed up by the Gr. 6's and to enjoy

during the winter months.
