Public Safety ABI Solutions

The Real Time Crime Center solution improves the efficiency of Law Enforcement departments and also increases the safety of the police officers on field offering:

Common Operating Picture: Visualization of a common picture on a mapping interface by integrating data from various sources (Situational Awareness)

Integration with CAD, AVL and other Data Sources: Seamless integration and presentation of data in different formats and from various platforms in real time

Real Time Info: Ability to render real time information on a map to ensure police officers are well-informed (Asset Tracking, Satellite Tracking, Social Media Monitoring)

Route Analysis: Suggestions for best routes during operation or violent situations to manage situations efficiently and to reduce risk to police officers’ lives

Video Feed Integration: Availability of abundant live video feeds on map and option to view Plume Modeling: Provision for predicting the areas under risk in case of chemical and natural

hazards using different GIS models

Commercial Application: Retail Product Distribution

Applications (web based and for the iPad) to help a client evaluate how GIS can add value to their critical business operations.

The Depletions Mapping Dashboard Application demonstrated the business intelligence capabilities of GIS by providing a map based sales dashboard for senior executives.

The Distributor Partner Manager Route Planner application developed for iPad,

demonstrated GIS’s routing and mobile capabilities. This application enabled a DPM to plan a route to visit client accounts and take notes on the go.

(11)

Commercial Application: Dashboards & Planning Tools

Sales Data

– Executive view

– Point of sale rolled up

through zip code, territory, region, business unit

Targeted Route Planner

– Route planner – Demographics – Segmentation

– Business Locations

Mobile Routing Manager

– Mobile (iPad) Route Planner – Sales data

– Distributor data

– Business locations

Integrating ERP and GIS

• Spatial View of Transactional Data

Maintenance Notifications and Work Orders Audit Status – Due, in-process, completed Spatial analysis of historical data

• Data Updates from Map Interface

– Create, update and complete maintenance transactions – Maintain asset attributes from map interface

• Unified view of GIS and SAP attributes

• Attributes update happen in both backend systems

• User does not worry about where each attribute belongs

• Utility agencies benefitted

Water, Sewer, Storm Drain, Gas Electricity, Telecom Streets, Signal Shop

Airport terminal and runway maintenance

Locate where the network equipment is installed

Contributes to find weaknesses in infrastructure before disaster hits

Determine where the damage occurred

Identify parts, facilities, or networks due for maintenance

Enterprise and Analytics

Water Utility Use Case – Fire Hydrant Audits

• Process Before Integration

• Paper based – field crew took paper maps

• Record observations and readings on paper

• Bring back papers to office

• Office staff created “Audit” notifications in SAP

• Complete data entry in SAP screens

• Where damage code was found, created another “Repair” notification

• Time consuming process, sometimes delayed, papers misplaced, etc.

• Difficult to track “Unaudited” hydrants

(14)

Asset and Work Management

Web Client

• Notifications

• Work Orders

• Spatial Query

• Temporal Query

(15)

Water Utility Use Case – Fire Hydrant Audits

• Benefits Achieved

 Paperless, online process

 Complete data entry through web browser – map interface

 Automation in process flow and data entry

 Where damage code was found, created another “Repair” notification

 Huge time saving for field staff and office staff

 Real time updates, errors, loss of data, etc eliminated.

 “Due for Audit” and “Due for Repairs” Hydrants easily visible on the map.

• Implementation will be extended to other processes

Conclusions

• Commercial and Civil worlds are not using the term ABI but are rapidly driving towards ABI solutions.

• USGIF community can leverage the torrent of “70% ready, 30%

customizable solutions” already undertaken to shorten implementation cycles.

• Integration and Real time updates are the ABI enabler (compared to batch synchronization in other products) with no data duplication required between GIS and ERP system so user sees seamlessly merged data from 2 systems

• Data sources and streams exist – ABI is enabled by integration components and the application of an “ABI vision”

• Scalable, easily extendable to multiple workflows / business processes ensures expanding use.

Proven Commercial and Civil Applications can provide a strongly leveragable

Framework for further ABI development.
