Cor ad cor loquitur…

(A heart-to-heart dialogue…)

My dear parish family:

On December 14, 2021, we will participate in an Advent Reconciliation Service at St. Mary’s Church in Closter, beginning at 7:30pm. In addition to myself, there will be priests from St. Mary’s and Immaculate Conception available to hear confessions.

If you haven’t received the Sacrament of Reconciliation in a while or are hesitant about going to confession, the video series “Forgiven,” which is part of the FORMED program is an excellent tool to prepare you for the Reconciliation Service. The FORMED program is one of the many programs offered through the Augustine Institute. The Augustine Institute joyfully embraces and proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ through graduate classes, video productions, short courses, study programs, books, talks, and multimedia resources to help people to better understand the Catholic Faith, and to live and share that faith with others. The institute’s website describes FORMED as the best Catholic content platform that hosts thousands of movies, children’s programs, eBooks, audio, parish programs and studies on demand to help parishes, families, and individuals to explore their faith anywhere.

A one-year subscription to FORMED was purchased for Sacred Heart at a discount several months ago. This subscription allows all staff and parishioners of our parish to sign-up, at no cost, to use the platform whenever they desire during the subscription period. There are thousands of books, audio talks, movies, documentaries, and studies available -- something for every member of the family to help them grow closer to Christ and His Church. Signing up for FORMED is very easy. Just follow these steps:

- Visit signup.FORMED.org

- Enter zip code 07641 to find Sacred Heart Parish. Then click Next.

- Enter your name and your email address where indicated to create your own individual account.

Next weekend, parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Newark will conduct the annual collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious. In 1988, the U.S. bishops launched this collection to address the profound deficit in retirement funding among the nation’s religious communities. Traditionally, religious women and men served for small stipends that did not include retirement benefits. Today, many religious communities lack adequate retirement savings and have increasing numbers of older women and men. At the same time, health care costs have risen dramatically while the number of religious able to serve in compensated ministry has declined. Sr. Joanne’s religious community and Sr. Regina’s religious community both benefit from this important collection.

Generosity to the annual collection has helped many religious communities address their retirement deficits, yet hundreds of others continue to face a troubling gap between the needs of aging members and the funds available to support them. The pandemic has only increased the challenge to provide adequate care. I ask each of you to make a contribution to this collection. If you receive monthly church envelopes, there is an envelope included in your packet. Additional envelopes are at the doors of the church. I realize that some of you may be facing financial difficulties, but every donation advances the church’s mission to ensure a safe, modest retirement for the nation’s elderly religious.

Thank you for all you do for our wonderful parish. You are always in my daily prayers. Be well and be safe.

Yours in the Sacred Heart of Jesus,

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

“And this is my prayer:

that your love may increase ever more and more in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value…”

—-Philippians 1:9-10)

During the Christmas shopping season it is easy to get caught up in the frenzy of buying gifts. But, is that “gift” truly an expression of your love for the other person. Or, are you just fulfilling your

“obligation” to give them something? To grow in friendship with someone, you need to spend time with them, learn what is of value to them.

Maybe this year, buy less “stuff” and spend more time with those you love.

December 5, 2021 Reflections

Reflective Thoughts During the Pandemic with love from Sr. Joanne

On December 6, we celebrate the Feast of St. Nicolas, the patron of unseen kindnesses.

Please see the mural of St. Nicolas on the church wall on St. Nicolas Avenue!

How have we experienced kindness from others we did not know?

How have we given love and support to those who need it?

I miss you, I love you.

Be well, Be safe!!

Come Sing With Us!

Singing is one of the most cherished actions humans can do together. We make single chords out of multiple voices… and when we sing, we feel close, we inspire each other.

We pray together, and we minister together in the words we sing.

Singing awakens something in us—our soaring spirit and likeness to God, the Source of Love and all that is good!

St. Augustine said “he who sings his prayer, prays twice”.

Choir registration is still open for Christmas, and we would love for you to join our music ministry family!!!

CONTACT: [email protected]

The Adult Choir meets on Wednesdays at 7pm in the church, and we sing for the 10am Mass on Sundays.

The Children’s Choir meets on Wednesdays at 4pm in the church, and they sing once a month for the 10am Mass on Sundays.
