EPHESIANS 2:1-10 (NIV)

"As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

BRINGING IN THE LIGHT

CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP “This House of Prayer” S. Kujawski

CALL TO WORSHIP

L: Welcome, friends, to a celebration of our life in Christ.

P: We have come today looking to piece together the events of life into something we can use to bring us hope.

L: Our hope is in Christ. Not just hope in death, but hope in life; the hope that we can live lives of meaning because of the power of God within us.

P: May God pour his love upon us that we may have hope in this life and forever. Amen.

HYMN “The Church’s One Foundation” No. 401 (Verses 1, 2 & 4)

CONFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Prayer of Confession: (In Unison)

Dear merciful God, we thank you for the promise of your presence with us. We acknowledge that we are driven by fear at times: fear that you are not real, fear that you are not with us, fear that you will judge us according to our wrongs. Dispel our fears and help us to trust in your grace: a grace that comes to all who trust you. In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

L: Let us now pray together the prayer that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ taught us:

P: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
