Kindergarten-12th Grade Students
The term “special admission” applies to students who are
currently enrolled in Kindergartan-12th grade. These students
may enroll in Ohlone College courses that are UC and/or CSU
transferable on a space available basis. PE and ATHL classes are
not available for any Kindergarten-12th grade student
enrollment. Kindergarten-12th grade students must meet all
course prerequisites to be eligible for enrollment; for courses in
English and math this usually requires that the student take an
Ohlone Placement Test. Per Title 5 of the California Code of
Regulations, Kindergarten-12th grade coursework may not be
used to waive college prerequisites. Parental and principal or
school official approval is also required.
Kindergarten-12th grade students are exempt from paying the
California Community College Enrollment Fee ($46 per unit) but
are subject to the Electronic Access Fee ($5), Health Services Fee
($16 Summer, $19 Fall), and the optional Student Activity Fee
($5). Students who are enrolled exclusively in classes located on
their high school campus are also exempt from the Electronic
Access, Health Services, and Student Activities fees. Students
who are enrolled in online only classes are subject to the
Electronic Access Fee.
All Kindergarten-12th grade students are required to submit a
new application for admission every term. Permission packets
for those students who are attending classes on the Ohlone
College campuses can be obtained at www.ohlone.edu/
admissions/k12admission.html/.
Kindergarten-9th Grade Students
Kindergarten-9th grade students may register only in a limited
number of course offerings. The list of approved courses is
available at www.ohlone.edu/admissions/k12admission.html/
and in the Kindergarten-9th grade application packet. Students
need to submit their completed application packet by the due
date. This date is available on pages 2 and 3 of this Class Schedule
and online at www.ohlone.edu/admissions/k12admission.html/.
Early application is encouraged. The first day that admitted
Kindergarten-9th grade students will be eligible to register is the

10th-12th Grade Students

transferable courses. These courses are identified in this Class
Schedule and WebAdvisor. 10th-12th grade students will be

“The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a
federal law that affords parents the right to have access to their
children’s education records, the right to seek to have the
records amended, and the right to have some control over the
disclosure of personally identifiable information from the
education records. When a student turns 18 years old or enters
a postsecondary institution at any age, the rights under FERPA
transfer from the parents to the student.” Students who are
enrolled at Ohlone College are covered by the Family
Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA). According
to this legislation, college personnel cannot release a student’s
records or speak with parents and/or guardians about any
student’s academic records without the student completing the
“Release of Information” form. The exception to this regulation
is if the student is claimed as a dependent by either parent for
tax purposes. Ohlone College reserves the right to require
documents verifying student’s status as a dependent.

California Residency and Citizenship Requirements
By state law Ohlone College is required to obtain evidence from
students of physical presence in California and of their intent to
make California their home state for other than a temporary
period. Students who have lived in California for less than two
years will be required to present documentation of both their
physical presence in California for one year and a day prior to
the first day of the term and of their intent to make California
their home.
explanation of Physical Presence
A person capable of establishing residence in California must be
physically present in California for one year and a day prior to
the residence determination date to be classified as a resident
student. The residence determination date is the day
immediately proceeding the opening day of instruction for the
semester, regardless of the first day of instruction for a specific
course or program.
A temporary absence for business, education, or pleasure will
not result in loss of California residence, if, during the absence,
the person always intended to return to California and did
nothing inconsistent with the intent. Additional documentation
may be requested for students absent from California for
business, education, or pleasure in order to demonstrate intent.
Physical presence within the state solely for educational
purposes does not constitute establishing California residence
regardless of the length of that presence.
Non-residents of California will be required to pay the
non-resident tuition fee. For more information about California
residency requirements, call the Office of Admissions and Records
at (510) 659-6100, check the Ohlone Web site at
www.ohlone.edu/admissions/fees.html#residency/, or e-mail the
Office of Admissions and Records at [email protected].

Requirements for non-Citizens of the United States
Students who are not United States citizens must verify their
immigration status. For this reason, non-citizens are asked to
submit their documents in person at the Office of Admissions
and Records. Students should be prepared to present a passport,
permanent resident card, or other documentation (for example,
notice of action or receipt thereof) that will demonstrate their
immigration status.
This documentation is required every
semester. For assistance regarding citizenship and immigration
status, please call the Office of Admissions and Records at (510)
659-6100; check the Admissions and Records Web site at
www.ohlone.edu/admissions/residency.html/; or e-mail the
Office of Admissions and Records at [email protected].
Students who are not United States citizens may be considered
a California resident for tuition purposes. To qualify, a person
must be in a status eligible for residency and must have resided
continuously in California for at least one year and one day prior
to the first date of the term. Evidence must be provided to
indicate that the person intends to make California his/her
permanent home. The residence of an unmarried minor is that
of the parents or legal guardian. The residence determination
date is the day before a term begins for which the person is
applying for admission. It is the student’s responsibility to clearly
demonstrate both physical presence in California and intent to
establish California residency.

Non-resident U.S. military personnel on active duty in California
(except those assigned for educational purposes to State
supported institutions of higher education) are granted a waiver
of non-resident tuition until they are discharged from their

Effective July 1, 2015, The Veterans’ Access to Care Through
Choice, Accountability, and Transparency Act of 2014 directs
colleges and universities to charge in-state tuition to all veterans
and their families who are receiving GI benefits, regardless of
residency. This law also extends to the Post-9/11 GI Bill to
dependents of service members killed in action.
