Annual Abegweit Pow Wow Committee would like to take this time to Thank You! for your interest in volunteering for the 2015 pow wow. As we know, volunteers are valuable assets in the success of any event and we thank you in advance for your consideration, and your time.
Following are brief descriptions of our various volunteer positions and their duties. Feel free to circle the ones that you are interested in and forward to our office. As we approach the pow wow date, we will contact you to confirm your participation and confirm your schedule.
Each 4 hour shift includes a “Meal Voucher”.
Each 4 hour shift includes a ticket for a draw of a Bamboo Splash Sketchbook. All volunteers will be treated to a Volunteer Recognition Supper.
All volunteers receive a certificate with their hours of service outlined. All positions require:
● Standing for long periods of time
● Physical work, heavy lifting required
● Working in all types of weather as this is a rain or shine event
● No drinking, no smoking or unnecessary cell phone or iPod use while on duty
● Ability to function effectively in a fast paced environment
● Working efficiently without supervision
● Bilingualism is an asset, but not mandatory
● Clear understanding of the site layout
● Knowledge of pow wow protocol an asset, but not mandatory
● Superior customer service
● Flexibility to change in schedule/duties
● Friendly, outgoing, motivated, and energetic
● Great communication skills Note: The site has basic “wheel chair accessibility”.

GATES – POW WOW AMBASSADORS:
Pow Wow Ambassador Volunteers are recruited to greet and provide direction to our guest/attendees. Pow wow Ambassadors will be stationed at various points of entry to the pow wow and will act as the “Information Centre” for the pow wow. They will accept gate donations from pow wow guests/ attendees. Positions will rotate from entry points to walking around the pow wow grounds and assisting guests/attendees.

GREEN TEAM:
The Green Team is a group of environmentally conscious volunteers who are responsible for supporting the effective operation of all greening initiatives, including garbage and recycling, and educating guests/attendees of the recycling measures on the pow wow grounds.

ELDERS, DRUMMERS & DANCERS CARE:
Involves assisting Elders, drummers and dancers. Escort and/or direct to guests/attendees, as requested. Ensure they have water and access to items they may need and provide help during cultural ceremonies, such as sacred fire keepers.

PEACE KEEPERS/SECURITY:
Preserve and promote peace throughout the pow wow; monitor and observe grounds/attendees during pow wow to ensure the “no” drinking and “no” drugs guidelines are being followed by all. KITCHEN HELPERS: Kitchen Helpers will work under the Head Chef to prepare breakfast and supper feasts for all attendees. Kitchen Helpers will be assigned tasks such as peeling and cutting up veggies, preparing large dishes and maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen. Kitchen Helper Volunteers must be able to work in a fast paced environment, be able to stand the heat of the kitchen and able to accept compliments from hungry attendees. Kitchen Helper Volunteers

CANTEEN HELPERS: Canteen Helper Volunteers will take and prepare canteen orders. This may require using the BBQ or serving snacks. Canteen Helpers will also need to ensure all condiments are filled and restock when necessary. Canteen Helper Volunteers must be able to work in a fast paced environment and be flexible, social, energetic and willing to learn.

JACK AND JILL OF ALL TRADES (FLOATERS): Jack and Jill Volunteers will be assigned tasks based on the needs that arise throughout the Pow wow. In other words, these volunteers sign up for pre-set shifts without an assigned task and must wait for tasks to be assigned, in some cases there may be no need during that Volunteers shift. Jack and Jill Volunteers must be able to work in a fast paced environment and be flexible, social, energetic and willing to learn. Regardless, all hours will be counted toward volunteer hours.

FUN FUNDRAISERS : Fundraiser Volunteers will be assigned tasks to raise funds throughout the Pow wow. These tasks include selling tickets, silent auctions and a bingo. Fundraiser Volunteers must be able to work in a fast paced environment and be flexible, social, energetic and outgoing.

We are expecting approximately 3,500 visitors over 3 days.
We will have a Volunteer and Welcome Center on site which will be located by the Canteen. All
Volunteers will be required to sign in prior to their shift and obtain any supplies or equipment
required to perform their volunteer duties. All Volunteers who have completed their required
time shifts will receive a food voucher and ticket for the Bamboo Splash Sketchbook , as they
complete required shifts.

We are excited about your child/dependent’s interest in volunteering with the 2015 Abegweit Pow Wow. Before they can be placed as a volunteer, we require consent for their participation. Your child/dependent will not be allowed to be a volunteer unless this form is completed.

Please understand the following:
1) I understand that the minimum age of pow wow volunteers are 14 and that all volunteers between the age of 14 and 17 must have parental/guardian consent in order to volunteer.
2) I understand that the Abegweit Pow Wow is a day and night-time outdoor event with many people in attendance. I also understand that the grounds are uneven and lighting at night is minimal. There are temporary facilities and stationary and moving equipment on the grounds as well as many other potential hazards for my child/dependent. I agree that the Native Council of PEI, its Board members, employees, contractors, guests and fellow volunteers are not responsible, and are released from any claim we might have, for any loss, damage, harm, injury, cost or expense that my child/dependent might suffer or incur before, during or after the event, at the grounds of the pow wow or otherwise in the furtherance of their duties as a volunteer, except in the case of gross or wilful negligence on the part of the organization or such persons. I accept the responsibility for my child/dependent’s safety and security and personally undertake to have my child/dependent act in a responsible and safe manner as well as to adhere to the volunteer code of conduct.
3) I also understand that photography and videography will be utilized during this event. I grant permission to the Native Council of PEI to use my child/dependent’s likeness, voice, and words in television, radio, film, print, or other forms.
