SoftWhere Europe 2014 Edition 2

Welcome to the second edition of SoftWhere Europe for 2014. We enter the last half of the year with continued momentum. Not long ago, salesforce.com breached the list of top 10 enterprise software vendors, which speaks volumes about the rising value of cloud-based enterprise applications. Along with SaaS, mobile and analytics continue to be key areas of innovation.. Machine-to-machine communications and software defined networking, which is driving disintermediation through horizontal integration across devices, also are becoming increasingly hot topics.

From an executive perspective, these fast-evolving trends continue to offer fresh career opportunities. Growing confidence in the market has driven a focus on growth-orientated roles, with geographic expansion and investment in new ventures becoming key for many companies. Communications skills are at a premium in this environment. Executives are required to energise staff behind a vision and take new messages to market. They must also build and maintain relationships with investors to help manage the extended investment cycles associated subscription-based businesses. In a rapidly expanding multi-channel world, the means of communications have proliferated and the pace accelerated, creating greater pressure than ever on leadership teams to articulate a clear brand vision. Marketing skills no longer are the preserve solely of the chief marketing officer, but are valued increasingly across a range of executive roles.

Over the past six months, there have been a number of notable appointments in software in Europe. We have summarised many below, both those that have been supported by Russell Reynolds Associates and those that are in the market (we endeavour to be comprehensive, but if we have omitted an appointment, please do let us know). We wish everyone well who has made a move recently, and we look forward to working with you over the coming year
