Bishop Shelton Fabre will preside over the annual St. Mar n de Porres Mass for African-American Catholics on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 7:00 PM at St. Luke Church, Thibodaux. This culturally African-American Mass is open to all. St. Mar n de Porres, a Dominican brother, is known for his dedicated service to the poor in Lima, Peru, his openness to people of all races and his mys cal experiences of prayer. The son of a woman of either African or South American Indian heritage, St. Mar n is the patron of Catholics of African heritage and the sec-ondary patron of the Province of New Orleans. November is observed in the Catholic Church as African-American Catholic Heritage Month.

AMERICAN INDIAN MASS OF THANKSGIVING

Bishop Shelton Fabre will preside over the annual American Indian Mass of Thanksgiving on Friday, November 20, 2020 at 6:30 PM at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Pointe-aux-Chenes. Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Mt 22:15-21

“Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.”

Parents and care givers who send a child off to college or to a different city to live on their own may observe that their child gradually becomes aware of who fed, clean, clothed and housed them in their infant years; who sac-rificed so much me, personal interest and resources to provide them with an educa on and opportuni es to grow and mature. It may not be un l that child has a child of their own that they fully appreciate all their par-ents or care givers did for them and how much they owe them, and possibly express gra tude. Are we aware of God’s gi s to us and try to use them to the best of our ability for ourselves and others? Do we understand our obliga on to thank God for his generosity? If we never become aware of God’s gi s to us, and fail to use them, we may have to depend on Caesar [the state]. Then we may understand the wisdom of Jesus, “Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” It may be helpful to remember that without God there would be no Caesar [the state].

Prayer to End Abortion

Lord God, I thank you for the gift of life,

and for the lives of all my brothers and sisters.

I know there is nothing that destroys more

life than abortion.

Yet I rejoice that you have conquered death

by the resurrection of your Son.

I am ready to do my part in ending abortion.

Today I commit myself Never to be silent,

Never to be passive,

Never to be forgetful of the unborn.

I commit myself to be active in the pro-life

move-ment and never to stop defending life until all my

brothers and sisters are protected, and our nation

once again becomes a nation with liberty and

justice for all, especially the unborn.
