October was a busy month for the CornellCast team, with 56 new videos posted, 4 live broadcasts, and regular promotions. All that work appears to have paid off in traffic to the CornellCast site, which is up 42% from last month ‐‐ our second straight month of double‐digit gains ‐‐ and up 99% from our July levels. It will be interesting to see how much of this is purely cyclical, given the time of year, and how much is solid, sustained growth. • The Messenger lectures featuring Nima Arkani‐Hamed (apparently a rock star in the physics world) were very popular, bringing in a few thousand page views in just a couple of weeks. The bulk of this traffic came from external social social channels. • Our live broadcast of the Society for the Humanities two‐day conference had a small but global audience, drawing viewers from 20 countries. Maybe most notable about the Humanities broadcast is that it was done without any assistance from CIT ‐‐ just a laptop, webcam and wireless connection. • The second episode of Paint the Town Red premiered in October with very strong numbers and several positive comments from viewers. • 153 viewers saw our live broadcast of the State of the University address; 553 have viewed the address on‐demand as of Nov. 14. 21,155 unique viewers tuned in to CornellCast content in October via the CornellCast website and embedded players. The average duration watched per viewer was 31 minutes, 54 seconds. The CornellCast website had 35,345 page views (30,682 uniques). This includes traffic to the default url, www.cornell.edu/video, as well as links to specific videos. Our promotional campaigns via web, email and Cornell social channels generated 4,391 page views (12% of the traffic) on the CornellCast site. Distribution of the weekly CornellCast email update was expanded in October to include CyberTower email subscribers. Those weekly emails alone generated 3431 page views on the CornellCast site this month ‐‐ that's up almost 400% from September. 56 new videos were added in October, bringing the total to 784 items now in the collection.

Congratulations!!! Katie looks very composed, relaxed, her tone of voice invites you to listen to what she has to say. Her down‐to‐earth, no‐frills approach to presenting her views of architecture and the project she had worked makes me want to take a brush and start painting the town red and many other colors!!!! Excellent!!!" ~ youtube user Re: Paint the Town Red Ep. 2 "Nice presentation for an important building to both the Plantations and University. Congratulations to Director Don Rakow." ~ alum
Re: Plantations dedication (live) "Excellent clarity and it's nice to be able to listen to the speech without leaving my office. Thank you." ~ faculty/staff Re: State of the University address "I would love a description and words for the many cheers and music played during a hockey game. I am able to catch the words for some, but not for others. ... I think it would be terrific to capture the enthusiasm that happens throughout the game. And while you're at it, show the crowd cheering for the costumed Zamboni driver and the penalty guy tossing candy. In other words, really capture the traditions for the crowd. It would be great to feel that the participation of the crowd is an integral part of Cornell hockey. If you like this idea and decide to act on it, I would love to know. I'll be the first to view the video!" ~ faculty/staff Re: Sidelines / Lynah Rink tour CyberTower
