A

s a Texas-licensed attorney, you now have

access to the Casemaker

Web Library

comprised of searchable databases of the case

law and statutes of all fifty states and including

all federal law—a total of over 13 million

documents.

This free service, supported exclusively by TexasBarCLE and TexasBarBooks, is available only to members of the State Bar (not the public). You must be a registered user of TexasBarCLE.com to use the service. At the site, initiate a search from the “Free Legal Research” box. You will be taken to the Casemaker site and the search results. From there, you may continue your research using Casemaker’s intuitive and user-friendly search engine.

Casemaker databases are grouped into libraries:

4The Texas Library contains Texas case law, Texas statutes, the Texas Administrative Code, the Texas Constitution, Attorney General Opinions, State Court Rules, Federal Court Rules, and the municipal codes of Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.

4The Federal Library contains United States Supreme Court, Circuit court, District court, and Bankruptcy court opinions; Federal Court Rules; United States Code; Code of Federal Regulations; USC Bankruptcy Reform Act; U.S. Constitution; and links to Federal Court forms.

4Every State Library at a minimum contains case law, stat-utes, and the state constitution.

Take advantage of these other Casemaker features:

CaseCheck

Instantly determine the treatment of the case in question by a later court. Click on the hyperlink beside the case being viewed and be taken to the exact portion of the later case where the current case is cited.

MultiBook Search

When you are within a selected state’s library, click on the MultiBook Searches link to search simultaneously across a number of that state’s categories.

SuperCode

This feature allows you to see what changes are being made to a statute. When a statute is visible, the SuperCode tool is visible on the right side of the screen. Session Laws are incorporated into the annual updates of statutes. You may access new Session Laws by browsing or searching, or by using the SuperCode feature. If legislation has affected a viewed statute, a hyperlink will appear, directing you to the exact portion of the legislation that affects the statute.

Related fee-based products: CaseKnowledge

To utilize CaseKnowledge, run a search. Alongside the search results, secondary publication titles, such as TexasBarCLE course articles, will appear on the right side of the screen. You then have the option to purchase and download the publication.

Casemaker Medical

Of special interest to medical malpractice and personal injury attorneys, this optional fee-based service links to the National Institute of Health’s database and can identify and retrieve information based on concepts and ideas.

As an added tie-in, CD-ROM versions of TexasBarBooks publications include hyperlinked citations that, when clicked, go to the full text of the case or statute in the Casemaker service.

Need assistance with Casemaker? Access an online user guide via the “Help” link in the masthead. In addition, Casemaker pro-vides 7am – 7pm CT live customer support each business day via email at helpdesk@lawriter.net or toll-free at 877-659-0801.

One of the largest State Bar sections,

the Litigation Section commits to

information and education about

important and news-making topics that

impact the profession. All members

receive the respected quarterly journal,

The Advocate,

featuring updates and

analyses of issues by some of the state’s

most distinguished practitioners.

The Section provides grants to worthy projects,

sponsors ethics-accredited programs and lectureships

at law schools, and works to attract nationally known

keynote speakers for the Bar’s Annual Meeting. When

there are court rules being considered that will affect

how lawyers practice, the Section takes a lead in

advocacy with the Texas Supreme Court.

Finally, the Section cosponsors top-notch continuing

legal education with TexasBarCLE, earning its members

a discount. In a typical year, this would mean

discounted attendance at these popular programs: the

Litigation Update Institute, the Electronic Evidence

and Digital Discovery Institute, the Advanced Evidence

and Discovery Course, the Advanced Civil Trial Course,

and the Advanced Personal Injury Law Course.

Sections can do much to enhance your

professionalism. Enjoy the benefits of membership in
