DETAILS

During the initial briefing GABIG, CONNELLY, and KOFOED were advised of the following: ! The suspect and the victim work together at Lonestar Steakhouse.

! The suspect and victim reportedly had a sexual relationship.

! Omaha Police Department (OPD) Detectives were interviewing the suspect at his residence regarding the disappearance of the victim when they made observations that caused them to believe there may be a crime scene. They then contacted the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

! The suspect’s aunt owns the residence where the suspect lives.

! The aunt’s daughter also resides in the residence with the aunt and the suspect. ! OPD secured the scene and obtained a search warrant.

GABIG conducted an initial scene survey and noted the following observations:

! Deputy PRATT started a Crime Scene Entry log documenting access to the secured areas.

! Residence described as a four bedroom, three bathroom, split-entry home. ! Suspect’s bedroom located in the basement.

! Basement described as multi level, with one short set of stairs leading down from the front door to the first level; where a connecting door to the garage, a laundry room, a utility closet, a bathroom, and a family room are located.

! The suspect’s vehicle was parked in the south bay of the two-stall garage. ! Suspect’s vehicle described as a black Honda Accord with NE license PNT 663.

! Vehicle and its contents were impounded and will be examined at the DCSO Crime Lab. ! A large black trash bag located on the garage floor just north of the vehicle was

observed to contain numerous items, including apparent bloody towels on the top. ! A second short set of stairs leads down to the suspect’s bedroom.

! Suspect’s bedroom had a very perfumed scent, likely due to the two Glade air-fresheners and the numerous candles in the room.

! Suspect’s bedroom described as a single room with a small below ground window well, and a large closet that extends back into a crawl space.

! Suspect’s bedroom contained a full size bed with headboard, a bedside table, two bookcases, a desk with an office chair, a dresser, a portable cloth clothing closet, and a TV stand with a TV, stereo, and DVD player.

! Suspect’s bed was located with the headboard against the south wall.

! A large (approx. _ the mattress) apparent bloodstain was visible from the foot of the bed on the bottom edge of the mattress; stain tested positive for blood with presumptive Phenolphthalein test.

! Location of bloodstain on mattress indicated that the mattress had been flipped over from its original position, transferring blood through a quilt that was located between the mattress and box springs, and onto the box springs.

Apparent blood spatter was located on the ceiling in the area of the bed. Numerous small spots were visible to the naked eye.

White spots were visible on the ceiling; upon closer examination some areas on the ceiling appeared to have a white coating that was discernable from the normal appearance of the ceiling in surrounding areas. Dark spots were visible through the areas that appeared to have been covered with a white coating. A piece of the ceiling containing an area with the white coating and without was collected for analysis at the Lab.

Luminol Processing

CSI Investigators used tape to grid the ceiling, and performed Luminol processing of the ceiling, south wall, and west wall of the suspect’s bedroom. Reactions occurred on all three surfaces.
