The leader in trenchless rehabilitation

The trenchless rehabilitation of underground

water and sewer pipes is a solution that’s

more ecological, more cost efficient, faster and

less invasive for taxpayers and businesses alike.

(2)

Over time, the deterioration of underground watermain and sewage system infrastructures complicates the task of consulting engineers and municipal managers. When one considers that the average age of the watermain and sewage networks serving North America’s major cities is 75 years, it’s no surprise to learn that restoring them poses complex challenges.

Alarming deterioration

The deterioration of underground pipes is a growing concern for most municipalities. With water leaks that in some areas reach 40%, action is urgently needed. In addition to wasting drinking water, these serious leaks and infiltrations are eroding adjacent subsoil and increasing the risk of cave-ins and damage to roads. Major work must immediately be undertaken in order to bring public services back to a high standard and avoid the many problems that can be caused by deteriorating systems.

Increasing financial challenges

The current economic instability has put pressure on most municipalities, with taxpayers already pushed to the limit of what they are capable of contributing. The monies allotted to public works have decreased, prompting municipal managers to seek out innovative technological solutions that will allow them to reduce costs.

Rising open cut replacement costs

The inherent costs of traditional replacement methods continue to rise, putting these methods out of the reach of many municipalities. When the time comes to restore underground infrastructures that fall under the responsibility of these municipalities, they can no longer opt for traditional replacement alone.

Taxpayer expectations

Taxpayers are becoming increasingly well-informed. They demand and expect public funds to be managed ethically, responsibly and with a long-term view. Citizens are also very sensitive to environmental issues and are asking their municipalities to make decisions that promote sustainable development.

The experts at AQUAREHAB know and understand these concerns. Twenty years ago, we began to develop leading-edge trenchless rehabilitation solutions completely adapted to the issues faced by our clients. We believed then and have since proven that our technologies would become the obvious answer to the many looming challenges of repairing and replacing underground pipes. Today, AQUAREHAB is recog-nized in particular for its dynamic research and development efforts. Our expertise is increasingly sought after, and our company is experiencing enviable growth.

Less expensive, faster to install, and less harmful to the environment and municipal systems, trenchless rehabilitation restores the initial performance of pipes without needless pollution. It’s been the logical choice of more than 200 muni -cipalities across North America who have partnered with AQUAREHAB and its divisions. Our technologies are precise and versatile and have been proven time and again over our 20 years of experience.

To date, AQUAREHAB has conducted more than 250,000 metres of trenchless rehabilitation. The expertise of our engineers, our in-depth knowledge of current standards, our control of processes, and our precise technical execution have made us the leader in our industry.

Our corporate structure, comprised of three divisions offering complementary expertise, has made us the leader in our industry.

Our AQUAREHAB Drinking Water division focuses exclusively on the maintenance and trenchless rehabilitation of aqueducts. Whether we insert a semi-structural or structural liner in the pipes or spray an internal coating of epoxy, we are able to accurately target and resolve the problem. AQUAREHAB Drinking Water also holds one of just 22 licenses issued world-wide by NordipipeTM for the structural

lining of pressure pipes through inversion. AQUAREHAB Drinking Water: For consistently high performance from your watermain system with no service interruptions to users.

Our AQUAREHAB Wastewater division focuses exclusively on the maintenance and trenchless rehabilitation of sewer systems. Be our focus regular or urgent liner repair work, structural rehabilitation of manholes, or repair via grouting, we apply our vast expertise to restore performance to deteriorating conduits and rapidly extend their lifespan at a lower cost. AQUAREHAB Wastewater: For reliable systems that prevent sewer backups, promote soil and ground integrity, and ensure that wastewater is directed to treatment facilities.

Our AQUAREHAB Services division offers a wide range of complementary inspection and maintenance solutions: installation of interior sealing sleeves, pneumatic excavation, pressurized pipe tappings, sacrificial anodes, rental and installation of temporary bypass systems, blockage milling and cleaning of conduits, certification, and service commissioning. AQUAREHAB Services: For intelligent solutions and complete turnkey services that make life easier for our clients.

Trenchless rehabilitation is a repair or maintenance initiative that restores original performance to watermain and sewer pipes. It is a sound alternative to traditional open cut replace-ment and the many disruptions caused by such imposing construction sites, which involve work that is much more invasive and lengthier. Our technological solutions extend the operational lifespan of the systems by over 50 years and allow for savings of up to 50% of the cost of revitalization projects that use the traditional approach.

Many trenchless rehabilitation methods exist for watermain and sewage systems. Rehabilitation may be structural or non-structural, depending on the conduit and its operational condition.

Our technologies

The technological solution deployed most often by AQUAREHAB to repair conduits is known as cured in place pipe or CIPP. This process consists of inserting a liner impregnated with resin into the conduit, applying it to the inside wall, and curing it using hot water, steam or even UV rays. Once hardened, the new interior lining restores the conduit’s structural capacity and hydraulic performance. And because just two access pits are dug at each end of the conduit being repaired, the process is carried out much more simply and quickly.

If the conduit shows no structural damage, its cleaning by ream-ing and high-pressure water jet, followed by impregnation with

an epoxy coating (watermains) or chemical clogging (wastewater pipes) are also solutions that restore optimal hydraulic performance to the system.

Whatever the situation, involving AQUAREHAB in the work analysis will help ensure that the right technological solution is identified. The extensive knowledge of our engineering teams makes us a valuable and effective partner in the process.

On a cost level, compared to traditional replacement, trench-less rehabilitation can save up to 50% of the costs associated with system restoration, depending on the technology deployed. On a technical level, the lining of pipes using the inversion method is a much faster process to plan and execute, and its flexibility makes it easier to access hard to reach areas and layouts.

On a socio-economic level, AQUAREHAB sites minimize disruptions related to transportation and deliveries and provide safe access to nearby homes and businesses.

Because our methods are only minimally invasive and require less heavy machinery, no roads or sidewalks need to be dug up. This in turn reduces the risk of interruptions to underground gas, electrical or phone services, and damage to surrounding properties is greatly reduced.

And finally, on an environmental level, trenchless rehabilita-tion has been proven to be more ecologically acceptable than replacement. Our work sites produce less noise and excavation

residue. With sustainable development now spearheading the initiatives of many municipalities, our technologies support them in their strategies by proposing solutions that significantly reduce the environmental impact of conduit system revitalization projects.
