A flotilla of dead Lannnister s o l d i e r s and h o r s e s drift down a calmer stretch of the Blackwater River, much farther
downstream. A shudder o f movement as Bronn and Jaime drag themselves onto s h o r e .
They stand and look back at the battlefield in the d i s t a n c e , the huge swaths of dragon-scorched earth, charred w a g o n s , h o r s e s , b o d i e s .
B r o n n : "What were you thinking?" ( o f f J a i m e ' s ' W h a t ? ' e x p r e s s i o n ) "Charging a d r a g o n . "
" I was thinking I was going to kill i t . "
" I t ' s a fucking dragon! How were you going to kill i t ? " "Through the e y e . "

The two start o f f for K i n g ' s Landing, visible on the h o r i z o n . E X T . BLACKWATER RIVER BATTLEFIELD - DAY
Tyrion walks alongside the ravaged loot t r a i n . He s e e s the Dothraki herding the captive o f f i c e r s and soldiers ( i n c l u d i n g a bloodied Randyll and Dickon T a r l y ) towards Dany and Drogon. T h a t ' s odd.
Dany announces to her captives that now is the moment t h e y ' v e all been waiting f o r : bend the k n e e , or d i e . Drogon g r o w l s , and most of the captives drop to one k n e e . There are a few holdouts, though - among them are Lord Randyll and a nervous Dickon, w h o ' s taking his cue from his father. Echoing
C e r s e i ' s propaganda, Randyll says he i s n ' t serving a foreign woman with an army of foreign s a v a g e s . Dany corrects Randyll:
s h e ' s the rightful queen of W e s t e r o s . Tyrion can s e e D a n y ' s temper r i s i n g , and points out that Randyll fought for her father and handed the usurper Robert his only d e f e a t ; perhaps Dany could show m e r c y . But Randyll c o u l d n ' t give a shit about her mercy. He simply echoes N e d ' s line from S l : " I ' m a
s o l d i e r . I learned how to die a long time a g o . " Non serviam. Very w e l l . I f this lord o f Horn H i l l w o n ' t serve h e r , i t ' s time for a new lord of Horn H i l l . Dany and Tyrion turn to Dickon. Tyrion urges the kid to be r e a s o n a b l e . He had a shitty tyrant for a f a t h e r , t o o .
" D o n ' t die to prove your f a t h e r ' s p o i n t . "
Dickon looks to his f a t h e r , and we s e e that a part of Lord Randyll wants his son to bend the knee and be s p a r e d . But Dickon is his f a t h e r ' s s o n . He s t e e l s himself and stays on his f e e t . I f this is the end of House Tarly, s o be i t .

In an aside with Dany, Tyrion advocates against executing Dickon with him. H e ' s j u s t a dumb kid with a shitty father; nothing a few months of prison w o n ' t c u r e . I f Dany starts snuffing out entire ancient family lines like the T a r l y s , the lords of Westeros will never support h e r . Dany d o e s n ' t much c a r e ; when i t ' s their turn, those lords will a l s o bend the knee or d i e . Tyrion wants to p r e s s his c a s e further but Dany has heard enough. All her advisers warned her to be cautious and she d i d n ' t l i s t e n .
Now s h e ' s finally won a victory. She d i d n ' t come to Westeros to plead for the Seven Kingdoms. She came here to conquer them. Tyrion cannot push harder without publicly undermining his q u e e n . His only choice is to stand by and w a t c h . At
D a n y ' s command, Drogon incinerates Lord Randyll and his h e i r . After t h e y ' r e burned, all the other holdouts promptly bend the k n e e . Say what you will about D a n y ' s methods, she gets things d o n e .
I N T . C E R S E I ' S BEDROOM - DAY
Qyburn has j u s t finished examining C e r s e i when Jaime e n t e r s . He can tell that Jaime wants a private audience with the queen so takes his l e a v e . Jaime t e l l s Qyburn that Bronn has ideas for modifications to the dragon gun, and that Qyburn should go find him.
When t h e y ' r e a l o n e , Jaime t e l l s her that h e ' s s e e n D a n y ' s dragons in the f l e s h . H e ' s seen her Dothraki.
" T h i s i s n ' t a war we can w i n . "
C e r s e i d o e s n ' t appreciate his defeatism. So Dany has a huge army? G r e a t . Let her try to feed them in winter. Jaime i s getting frustrated, and C e r s e i demands to know what h e ' d suggest they do i n s t e a d . Should they send an envoy to this Dragon Queen and ask her to split the Seven Kingdoms with them? Should they bend the knee to Dany and to their brother, who murdered their father and s o n ? Jaime reveals that Olenna
c o n f e s s e d to J e f f r e y ' s murder. Tyrion really was innocent. C e r s e i takes in the information • • It d o e s n ' t matter, now. He s t i l l killed their f a t h e r . And they have no choice but to f i g h t .

The ravens fly through the s k y , covering ground, c r o s s i n g north of the W a l l . As in Winged Migration, we cut into their POV: an army o f 1 0 0 , 0 0 0 dead men blankets the surrounding h i l l s and f i e l d s , marching in formation. White Walkers ride dead horses in their m i d s t . T h e y ' r e in no r u s h . Their pace is s l o w , steady, inexorable as the grave. The Army of the Dead is finally marching on the living. The Night King knows when h e ' s being watched. He looks up at the ravens and the ravens s c a t t e r , as i f at a gunshot.

Jon watches Dany and Dragon wheeling in the s k y , approaching
their Dragonstone landing pad. Behind him, Rhaegal leaps down
to meet his mother and brother, landing too c l o s e to J o n .
Viserion j o i n s him. They notice J o n , and meet his g a z e .
The two dragons c l o s e in on Jon, trying to decide what to
make of him: friend? Foe? Meal? Jon stands his ground,
staring into R h a e g a l ' s e y e . Rhaegal appears to be leaning
toward the latter. But Dragon lands with Dany on his back,
and the other dragons make way for him as he approaches Jon
and leans in to sniff him.
Every nerve in J o n ' s body screams to r u n , but instead he
sticks out his hand, and touches the c r e a t u r e ' s m u z z l e .
Dragon decides Jon is O K . A look from Dragon brings each of
his brothers around to the same opinion.
Impressed, Dany dismounts. "You d i d n ' t r u n . "
" D i d n ' t think I ' d get very f a r . "
This leads into a scene with Dany and J o n . On screen or o f f
s c r e e n , she gives him a censored version of the events on the
Kingsroad, leaving out the part about roasting the Tarlys
a l i v e . She only t e l l s him that many former Lannister
loyalists lined up behind their rightful Q u e e n , hint h i n t .
H a l f - j o k i n g , Dany points out that, for o n e , she has dragons.
L e t ' s be h o n e s t , if this whole Army of the Dead is as
flammable as they s a y , whoever has the fire-breathing dragons
should probably be Queen. Jon l a u g h s . He d o e s n ' t think the
throne should go to the person with the most dragons,
n e c e s s a r i l y . Why not? she wants to know. Dragons are magic.
People like m a g i c . A big part of the reason they named Jon
King in the North was because he was magic. Jon p r o t e s t s ;
that w a s n ' t the r e a s o n . But Dany keeps needling him. "Admit
i t . People like you because y o u ' r e m a g i c . " " I ' m not m a g i c . "
"You a r e ! Rising from the dead is magic, and you r o s e from
the dead. A l l e g e d l y . " "What?" " I never saw you rise from the
d e a d . Lots of people saw me walk from the flames unburned.
More than o n c e , actually. But this ' r i s i n g from the d e a d ' - it
was a very private a f f a i r . "
Jon o f f e r s to show her the s c a r s . She sure w o u l d n ' t mind
seeing them - but she d o e s n ' t take the b a i t . I t ' s c o l d o u t .
She w o u l d n ' t want him to get s i c k .

Jon c a l l s her " D a n y " , without any o f her numerous t i t l e s . And s h e ' s a little taken a b a c k , but a l s o likes i t . "No o n e ' s ever called me that b e f o r e . " " I ' m s o r r y , i t ' s j u s t ... w e l l , Daenerys is a m o u t h f u l . "
Eventually, the conversation goes to a more serious p l a c e . He asks her point blank if she believes him about the Army of the D e a d , and the danger they r e p r e s e n t . She can t e l l h e ' s h o n e s t , apparently to a f a u l t .
In turn, she asks Jon i f he trusts her to do what she says s h e ' s going to do with regards to the people o f W e s t e r o s . He says he d o e s . T h e y ' r e both people who actually care about helping and protecting people who d o n ' t share their b l o o d , people they d o n ' t even know. T h e y ' v e both acted on this
impulse, more than o n c e . T h a t ' s a lot l e s s common than m a g i c . Jon a s k s , " I s this where you ask me to bend the knee a g a i n ? " She smiles and shakes her h e a d . S h e ' s not going to ask him to bend the k n e e . Not j u s t now.
And up the beach comes Jorah, seeing Dany with yet another handsome fellow w h o ' s not Jorah.
They have a brief reunion, in which it is established that Jorah is c u r e d . And maybe she shows her trust in him by
hugging him in spite of the fact that he recently had fantasy l e p r o s y .
I N T . DRAGONSTONE - AUDIENCE CHAMBER - DAY
Tyrion has told Varys what Dany did to the T a r l y s . A
Targaryen burning people alive - it troubles both m e n . Tyrion has not d i s c u s s e d the event at any length with Dany s i n c e it occurred, but they both decide he has t o , when the time i s right. T h e y ' r e both realpolitik g u y s . They understand that a certain amount of r u t h l e s s n e s s is necessary to win the
t h r o n e . But t h e y ' r e hoping for Caesar-level r u t h l e s s n e s s , not C a l i g u l a - l e v e l .
They are interrupted by a raven, who lands on the window ledge with a s c r o l l tied to its l e g .
I N T . DRAGONSTONE MAP ROOM - DAY
D a n y ' s Small Council meeting. Jon has the abovementioned raven s c r o l l in hand, staring at i t , trying to take on board all its implications.

Jorah is there as w e l l . Rather than going into a bunch o f dull introductions and reintroductions, we get the flavor of his complex relationship to Tyrion and Jon in the course of their interactions, assuming that their initial meetings happened o f f s c r e e n .
The matter at hand: the dead are marching on the W a l l . Now. As reported by J o n ' s little b r o t h e r , who is a l i v e , and apparently very different from the boy Jon left behind at W i n t e r f e l l .
Where does Dany stand on this ante-upping of the Northern threat? She i s t o r n . Her position on the Northern threat has evolved, in sync with her relationship to J o n . But they c a n ' t march north and leave the Riverlands, the Reach and the North exposed to Lannister a g g r e s s i o n . Dany would be willing to put her imperial ambitions on hold, but not to abandon them
entirely and abdicate to C e r s e i . She wants to face the Northern threat, but she can only do so if her opponent i s willing to do the s am e . S o , she asks Tyrion: would C e r s e i
ever be willing to do t h i s ?
Tyrion homes in on the central problem: C e r s e i d o e s n ' t believe in the Northern t h r e a t . She never h a s . I f they want her to take it s e r i o u s l y , they have to convince her it exists in the f i r s t p l a c e . She needs to s e e it with her own e y e s . Jon d o e s n ' t understand how they could p o s s i b l y show C e r s e i the Army of the Dead s o she can see it with her own e y e s . Tyrion points out that they d o n ' t need to show her the whole army. Just one of them. Bring one o f the wights down s o u t h . He knows his s i s t e r better than anyone h e r e . T h a t ' s their only hope of convincing h e r .
This makes s e n s e to D a n y . Jorah volunteers to lead this mission North o f the W a l l . Dany d o e s n ' t like the idea o f l o s i n g Jorah after he j u s t returned to h e r , but Jon says Tormund will help him with the wildlings who are at
Eastwatch.
And s o will J o n .
Dany does not like this i d e a . Neither does D a v o s . Jon is the only commander here w h o ' s fought the Army of the Dead b e f o r e , and t h e y ' l l need him once the true war s t a r t s . Beyond that, h e ' s the King in the North, chosen by the lords of the North. A king should not go on a commando m i s s i o n . Jon points out that this is exactly why he needs to g o : he has dealt with them b e f o r e . J o n ' s and D a n y ' s argument has the undertone of a woman trying to keep her man from venturing into h a r m ' s way,
a fact not l o s t on Jorah or Tyrion. She tries to order him; he reminds her t h a t , per their conversation on the b e a c h , she s a i d she w o u l d n ' t ask him to bend the knee y e t .

h e ' s never asked them to do something he w o u l d n ' t do h i m s e l f . Jon brings Davos around to his way of seeing t h i n g s , even as Davos bemoans his own fate as the Hand of a King who seems hell-bent on killing h i m s e l f . Eventually, Dany r e a l i z e s that Jon is going no matter what she s a y s , and she c a n ' t help but respect him for i t .
Varys points out that any evidence they find will be u s e l e s s u n l e s s C e r s e i grants them an audience in the first p l a c e , and is somehow prevented from murdering them all during s a i d
a u d i e n c e . Tyrion knows t h i s , and has a p r o p o s i t i o n : he needs to arrange a meeting with his brother Jaime, the only person to whom his s i s t e r will l i s t e n . Dany is a bit s u s p i c i o u s : he wants to go back to K i n g ' s Landing and s e e his brother again?
The one who led the attack on Highgarden, killed one o f their prime a l l i e s and stole the food we needed for our armies? Tyrion t e l l s her that "want" i s n ' t quite the right word� i t ' s as likely as not that Jaime will split him in half on s i g h t . But i t ' s the only way he can s e e to make this happen.
Davos says he can smuggle Tyrion into K i n g ' s Landing e a s i l y , but if the gold cloaks recognize the most famous dwarf in the world w e l l , Davos i s n ' t much of a fighter. Dany asks what happens if this whole plan f a i l s .
"We hope a hundred thousand dead men d o n ' t come to slaughter us until w e ' r e done slaughtering each o t h e r . "

A tired and frustrated SAMWELL is pulling an a l l - n i g h t e r , attempting the Herculean t a s k of finishing h i s 'punishment' homework. He has brought a whole bunch of tattered, fading volumes home and GILLY i s enthusiastically helping him copy them o v e r .
At l e a s t , she was helping him. S h e ' s having way too much fun luxuriating in a l l the details s h e ' s finding in the pages of these decaying documents - peppering Sam with questions about every facet o f Westerosi history and c u l t u r e . Sam, his
patience thinning, gently reminds Gilly that t h e y ' r e never going to get through this if they keep talking about each and every item she runs a c r o s s .

But Gilly is engrossed in one particular volume: the personal diary of High Septon Maynard, who held o f f i c e during the
reign of the Mad K i n g . The man kept meticulous notes about every detail o f his life - every meal he a t e , his various appointments and e n c o u n t e r s , even his bowel movements! S a m ' s all for a detailed historical record but even he finds this r i d i c u l o u s . I t ' s completely typical of the Citadel to want to preserve this document for all time - meanwhile the secret of bloody dragonglass killing White Walkers was sitting on a dustpile completely ignored. Sam i s beginning to question why he came here in the f i r s t p l a c e . What u s e is he to Jon here? He-
" Ah , h e r e ' s something about a S t a r k . " Gilly s a y s , "Lyanna S t a r k . "
Sam is intrigued. W h a t ' s Lyanna Stark doing in a High
S e p t o n ' s diary? Apparently Maynard presided over her wedding. Now Sam is very intrigued. Her wedding? He takes the book from her and r e a d s . M a y n a r d ' s entry details that h e , as High Septon, was compelled by Crown Prince Rhaegar ( t h e Mad K i n g ' s s o n and h e i r ) to secretly annul his marriage to E l i a M a r t e l l . T h e n , as the War of the Usurper began, he traveled to Dorne to marry Rhaegar and Lyanna Stark in a secret ceremony! I N T . CITADEL RAVENRY - DAY
The medieval equivalent o f a massive server farm. And S am is busy cleaning the shit o f f the floor when a stack of Inbox raven s c r o l l s catches his e y e . No one e l s e here seems to be bothering with them, or paying any attention to S am . H e ' s earned a break. He picks up the stack and starts to skim them. Boring • . • Boring . • . Holy s h i t !
I N T . CITADEL - DAY
Sam barges into a conference of Archmaesters with the raven s c r o l l from W i n t e r f e l l . The Army o f the Dead is marching on the W a l l , exactly as S am warned it would. The Archmaester takes the s c r o l l , r e a d s , and p a s s e s it around to the other m a e s t e r s .
The Maesters are d u b i o u s . They have read many dire warnings of this s o r t . Prophecies of apocalypse are never in short supply. The North often dulls M a e s t e r s ' w i t s .

Sam w o n ' t be d i s m i s s e d . He let Bran and his p o s s e through the W a l l , expecting never to hear of them again, but somehow a crippled boy survived for years beyond the Wall when the N i g h t ' s Watch c o u l d n ' t , the wildlings c o u l d n ' t , nobody can but the d e a d . Something protected Bran out t h e r e . Maybe i t ' s this Three-Eyed Raven.
Presuming the letter is r e a l , the Archmaester asks S am what he would have the maesters do? S am is e x c i t e d : finally these p r o f e s s o r s are going to listen to him. Westeros trusts the C i t a d e l . All the maesters could advise all their lords to send their soldiers north to hold the Wall against the Night K i n g , while the maesters here dug through the forbidden tomes for how to defeat him.
The Archmaester is considering S am ' s argument. A sound
strategy, and p o s s i b l e . S am can hardly contain his relief at getting through to these old f a r t s . But - - j u s t for the sake of argument, o f course - - the Archmaester proposes another scenario to the m a e s t e r s : this letter is a ploy by the King in the North and the Dragon Queen to denude the south o f s o l d i e r s and make conquest e a s i e r . The maesters murmur. Y e s , infinitely more likely. S am wants to argue his side further, but the Archmaester cuts him o f f . Thank you for bringing this to our attention, w e ' l l take it under serious consideration. A maester chimes i n : this letter reminds one o f the charlatan Jenny of O l d s t o n e s , who claimed descent from the Children of the F o r e s t . Another maester a d d s : let us not a l s o not forget the f a l s e prophet L o d o s , who claimed the Drowned Men would r i s e to destroy Aegon the Conqueror . . . The Maesters nod s a g e l y .
Sam knows he has l o s t . These fucking g u y s . As h e ' s about to leave, the Archmaester c a l l s out to Sam: "Heard the Targaryen girl burnt your father a l i v e . Horrible thing, horrible t h i n g . W h e r e ' s that book you were getting for m e ? "

In the Forbidden Works s e c t i o n , Sam grabs as many s c r o l l s as he c a n . The Librarian from 6 1 0 ( o r another m a e s t e r ) tries to stop him but Samwell Tarly killed a Thenn and a White Walker, and shoves the dork out o f the way.
E X T . OLDTOWN TAVERN - DUSK
G i l l y , Sam, and little Sam ride in a wagon f i l l e d with
s c r o l l s on the outskirts of Oldtown. Gilly turns around for one last look at the c i t y . She liked it t h e r e , and asks i f Sam is sure he wants to do t h i s .

c r o s s b o w . Davos muses that the l a s t time he was h e r e , Tyrion killed his son with w i l d f i r e . But here they are on the same s i d e . L i f e ' s a b i t c h .
E X T . CROATIAN COVE - DAY
They pull the dinghy ashore in a hidden c o v e , near the
entrance to Flea Bottom, with the Red Keep looming overhead. As Davos conceals the b o a t , he t e l l s Tyrion that the spot he
( T y r i o n ) is looking for i s right there, along that path. Tyrion is surprised when Davos heads up a set of s t a i r s .
Davos i s n ' t staying with the b o a t ? Davos shakes his h e a d . N o , he has his own b u s i n e s s to attend to - and he ascends toward F l e a Bottom, whose ramshackle dwellings are v i s i b l e above. E X T . DUBROVNIK TRAINING GROUND

Jaime marvels at how convenient it i s that h e ' s already got his sword in hand to greet his brother, and Tyrion has to talk his way out of irruninent d e a t h . Jaime already knows that Tyrion was innocent of murdering J o f f ; Tywin knew this as w e l l . But he tried to have Tyrion killed anyway. around. But Davos does warn Gendry to keep his parentage to h i m s e l f . The current situation is tense enough without Robert B a r a t h e o n ' s bastard re-appearing on the s c e n e .
Just then they hear v o i c e s around the corner. Two Gold Cloaks appear and ask Davos what h e ' s d o i n g .
Davos admits to smuggling and shows his contraband (which he brought for j u s t this o c c a s i o n , hiding his bigger crime with a l e s s e r c r i m e ) . Then he pulls out the customary bribe for the Gold C l o a k s .
The Gold Cloaks are s a t i s f i e d with this story - until Tyrion stumbles upon the s c e n e .

One of the Gold Cloaks recognizes him. Small man, big bounty. Davos c u r s e s under his breath, but before Davos can rush out to embarrass h i m s e l f , Gendry leaps from cover with his
warhammer.
The kid w a s n ' t lying: he has been p r a c t i c i n g . Gendry k i l l s all the Gold Cloaks present with h i s hammer while Davos & Tyrion watch idly from the s i d e l i n e s , listening to the great hammer sound e f f e c t s .
I N T . WINTERFELL GREAT HALL - DAY
LORD GLOVER has come from Deepwood Motte and sought an audience with SANSA. BRIENNE, ARYA, LORD ROYCE, LYANNA
MORMONT and LITTLEFINGER are p r e s e n t . Glover complains about J o n ' s a b s e n c e . Winter i s h e r e , and they all have their own h o u s e s and people to which to attend. Winter i s h e r e , and they have their own h o u s e s and people to which to attend. S a n s a assures the lords that Jon will return soon and until then she has everything well in h a n d . She turns to S a n s a for support, but S a n s a looks annoyed by A r y a ' s outburst. Arya gets even more r u f f l e d . S a n s a soothes Lord Glover, but then Lord Royce pipes u p : Jon can stay on Dragonstone as long as he l i k e s ; in the meantime S a n s a should rule the North in name as well as in f a c t , as the f i r s t Queen in the North. After a l l , the Knights of the Vale rode to
Winterfell on her b e h a l f , not Jon S n o w ' s . The hall e r u p t s . Lyanna is shouting at the l o r d s , who are tired of being lectured by a little g i r l .
S a n s a knows that with a word she could have it a l l . She is genuinely tempted: she saved everyone in the battle but got no c r e d i t , and she has done a damn fine j o b holding down the f o r t . S a n s a quiets the h a l l . She thanks the lords for their o f f e r , but there will be no oathbreaking t o d a y . Jon is their king from now until their dying day, and S a n s a will

Snow is blowing in through the window as Arya catches up to S a n s a after the meeting. Sansa c a n ' t believe those lords
turning against J o n . But in A r y a ' s view, S a n s a c o u l d ' v e stood up more forcefully for J o n . S a n s a tries to explain politics to Arya: Glover has 5 0 0 men, Royce has 2 , 0 0 0 mounted k n i g h t s , and she c a n ' t risk offending them. C e r s e i would s a c r i f i c e anyone, even Jaime, i f he got in her way. But t h a t ' s not her mood right now. She was willing to
allow this clandestine meeting, she was even willing to let their accursed brother slip away, because she has come to believe that some type o f accommodation with the Dragon Queen is in her i n t e r e s t . Perhaps Jaime was r i g h t , perhaps the

Arya puts it in her pocket and leaves the room - but she forgets to re-lock the d o o r . We think we s e e where this is going except as Arya walks o f f , we s e e Littlefinger appear, smiling that creepy
s m i l e . He knew she was following him and wanted it that way.
