COURSE OF STUDY
The course that you are studying on is a Foundation Learning Programme. This programme is made up of a number of subjects:
Awards in English Skills (2-3 units)
Functional Skills Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
City & Guilds Diploma in Personal and Social Development
Awards in Maths Skills (2 -3 units)
Mathematics / Numeracy (Optional) All these subjects will lead to a qualification.
This programme is 36 weeks long and you need to attend 15 hours each week. Your tutor will check your progress regularly; this is done in a number of ways: Tutorial, Homework, Progression review and Mock exams.
The table below explains the different subjects that you will be studying. All the subjects are taught in English, so you will be learning English all the time.

Language development - vocabulary, grammar and the four skills
Test - Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing
Portfolio – work that you have completed will be put in a file for
the examiner to mark ICT Basic operational skills.

Test – general ICT skills
ICT Skills will be covered during the ICT session in the week. You may be asked to complete extra work in your own time using the computers in the LRC.
Personal and Social
Development
Managing own personal and social development – learn to learn and
prepare to work. Learn about the
community and country that you are living in.
Portfolio – work that you have completed will be put in a file for the examiner to mark
Work that you complete as part of the English lesson may be used to build your portfolio for this subject. You may also be asked to complete some work at home, take pictures of things that you have done or be interviewed by your tutor.

Vocational Studies
An opportunity to try a number of curriculum area such as Business, Health and Social care, ICT, Travel and Tourism etc.
This may help you decide on your future studies

PEARL Personal and Social Development
Observation and tutorial discussion. Your tutor will observe and assess you according to 5 constructs.
This will be introduced in class and then you will be set targets in your ILP. Your tutor will have meetings with you
regularly to check how you are doing.
Mathematic s Skills Award
Either Adult Numeracy of Functional Skills Maths.
Some students may choose to complete a qualification in Numbers.

The course requires a minimum of 85% attendance. If you do not attend well you may be asked to leave the college and you will not be entered for the exams. Also you will not be given money travel cost (no financial support).
Everyday your teacher will mark register to record your attendance. Tt also records if you are late.
