Annual Fund Academic or extra-curricular activities, but not activities that are

predominantly leisure-oriented.

Variable. Grants of over £500 take into account applicant’s financial circumstances. Smaller awards not formally means tested but recipients must certify that proposed activity cannot be funded from alternative sources.

Both UGs and PGs, for activities taking place before end of course.

Advertised each term. Application form & reference submitted to College Office. Receipts required for reimbursement. Where appropriate, some applications for extra-curricular activities may be referred for funding from the Profumo or

Windlesham Funds.

Harold Parr Aimed at UG

students in particular need of financial assistance.

Each bursary is worth £500-£600.

UGs in any subject, preference for Law/Maths. Students in receipt of, or who narrowly missed out on, an OOB, or who find themselves in particularly straightened financial circumstances are encouraged to apply.

For travel taking place in Long Vacation or Easter Vacation.

The Committee has up to £1,800 to split between successful applicants each year.

UGs returning to residence following the trip. Preference to humanities UGs (esp classical/historical subjects) or for travel connected with study of classical civilisations of Mediterranean area or visiting USA.

Students to submit outline of nature & duration of trip, estimated costs & extent to which student will contribute, to College Office. Reference from Tutor also required. End of Hilary Term End of 1st week Trinity Term Kathleen Lavidge Bursary

To spend three weeks in September of that year studying at Stanford University.

A letter, CV and statement of not more than 500 words saying why you wish to apply and how it might help your academic development. Applicants may be invited to interview in 8th Week.

Travel Grants

For travel with an intellectually

constructive purpose & also enjoyable and refreshing. Should not involve charity work or be for the purpose of pursuing one’s academic course.

The Committee has up to £3,000 to split between successful applicants each year.

UGs and PGs, for travel taking place before end of course

Account of travel project, estimate of total cost and an indication of the degree of assistance required, to College Office. An indication of how proposed travel fits in with other activities, and what

difference an award would make, should be included. Early in Hilary Term End of 6th week of Hilary Term Senior Hulme Scholarships Up to 10 scholarships per year to DPhil students whose academic performance is deemed to be exceptional.

£225 per year plus limited High Table Dining Rights

DPhil students who have successfully completed Transfer of Status (or have had this

requirement waived), but who have not yet completed Confirmation of Status.

Advertised inviting covering letter and CV (max 2 sides of A4 each), emailed to tutor.graduates@bnc.ox.ac.uk plus reference form completed by Supervisor

Maximum claim of £200 per individual, but in the event of a very heavy claim on funds, it may not be possible to settle claims to the tune of the full £200.

Brazen Arts Fund Expenses incurred in the pursuit of artistic activities (excluding musical activities, but including plays, arts shows, speaker events, workshops, writing and

publications, film-making etc).

The fund has a budget of £5,000 per annum, overseen by the JCR and HCR arts and drama reps and by one senior member.

All junior members (UGs & PGs)

Applications including a clear budget, to be made via the JCR Arts Rep with relevant receipts or proof of expenses.

Early Trinity Term

By 5th week of Trinity Term

Paediatric Prize Towards costs of paediatric attachment.

First Prize of £200 and a Second Prize of £100.

2nd BM Students between the 5th and 6th year of the medicine course

Advertised by College Office in conjunction with Paul Klenerman. Students to submit essay giving account of paediatric attachment. Towards end of TT Summer Vac, as advertised Undergraduate Freshers’ Allowance

Long Vacation:

Hulme Completion Grants Depends on funds available, number of successful applications, amount of extra time required, and other funding sources available. Typically around 5-7 awards of up to £1,000. To support the maintenance of DPhil students who need to extend their research beyond the final year of their degree course.

DPhil students with confirmed status who will be out of fee liability for Michaelmas Term; and who expect to complete their thesis before the beginning of next Hilary Term

Advertised in September.

Applicants to submit report indicating status of research project and reasons why extra time is required. Reference from Supervisor also required.
