Sophos—Security so complete you feel invincible

Source: http://www.sophos.com/products/solutions/data-protection.html

It takes a lot more than anti-virus to cover every threat to your business. Sophos gives you what you need—complete security and data protection—all in a way that lets you manage it simply and quickly. Spend less time worrying about security so you can focus on more important things. Like your job.

Malware Protection

You need to stop malware, keep your network up and protect your data. That calls for more than just anti-virus software. A solid defense reduces your threat exposure by protecting all vectors through proactive techniques. Sophos helps you:

• Protect endpoint, email and web vectors with proven security

• Detect unknown malware proactively without the need for an update

• Get anti-virus, firewall, application and device control in a single agent

• Defend all your platforms, including Windows, Mac, UNIX and Linux Data Protection

You can't retrieve lost laptops and USB drives, but you can ensure the valuable data that's on them stays safe. In addition, you can control what your users are doing with sensitive data. Sophos helps you:

• Secure all data with full disk, email, and device encryption

• Prevent data loss with anti-virus that also scans for sensitive data

• Filter data sent in email and webmail as well as blog and forum postings

• Control unauthorized devices and applications

• Ensure only authorized computers can access your network Business Productivity

You want to give your users web access and the ability to use mobile devices and IM. But you also need to keep malware out without slowing your users down—at the same time you're protecting your company's vital data. Sophos makes it easy, with:

• Anti-virus that doesn't slow your users down and also includes data control

• Web filtering that stops threats and improves productivity

• Application and device control that reduces security and productivity risks

• Anti-spam that ensures only legitimate email traffic gets through

IT Efficiency

You have to keep everything secure, reduce costs and ensure IT is contributing to the bot-tom line. Complex security means projects slip and you don't achieve your business goals. Sophos saves you time and money:

• One vendor for all your endpoint, email and web needs

• One console to manage all your security across Windows Mac, UNIX and Linux

• One integrated agent to block malware, prevent data loss and control applications and devices

• One license that covers every point, every platform and includes 24/7 support from technical experts who speak your language

Ever-changing regulations and your own internal demands mean you risk hefty fines and a ruined reputation if you can't get your users to comply. Sophos helps make compliance easy, so you can:

• Shield your business with integrated data control

• Protect your vital information with seamless full-disk, email, and device encryption

• Jump start your policies with prepackaged intelligence

• Manage your compliance with customized reports

• Quickly set and deploy compliance checks out-of-the-box

Social Networking Attacks Increase in 2009

Sophos reported an increase in spam and malware attacks via social networking sites last year. Of the 500 companies surveyed, 57% say they have received spam messages and 36% say they have been sent malware through websites such as Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. This is an increase of about 70% in both spam and malware reports from the previous year, leading enterprises to be more cautious about employee access to such sites. The survey revealed that Facebook is perceived to be the riskiest site of them all, followed by MySpace, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

Symantec to Deliver Deduplication Everywhere to Mid-Sized Busi-nesses with Backup Exec 2010

Press Release – January 25, 2010

Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) announced Backup Exec 2010 to help mid-sized busi-nesses save time and money by protecting more data and utilizing less storage. Backup Exec 2010 offers fully integrated data deduplication and archiving technologies and is the first backup and recovery solution to offer granular recovery of Microsoft Exchange, SQL and Active Directory in VMware and Hyper-V environments from a single pass backup. Backup Exec also adds new support for Microsoft Windows 2008 R2, Hyper-V R2, Exchange 2010, Windows 7 and VMware vSphere 4.0.

“Organizations of all sizes are struggling to effectively manage information growth, par-ticularly as they leverage virtualization technologies, creating new backup and recovery complexities,” said Pat Hanavan, vice president, Symantec Information Management Group. “Deduplication and archiving have primarily been enterprise-class technologies, but Backup Exec 2010 brings them to the masses to solve difficult IT challenges in an extremely simple and easy to use solution.”

According to industry analyst firm IDC, storage capacity is growing between 48 - 50 percent each year, placing more data at risk and making the disaster recovery process much slower. In fact, approximately 70 percent of data is duplicate and has not been accessed in more than 90 days. Organizations that implement an integrated deduplica-tion and archiving soludeduplica-tion can realize up to 20-40 percent savings in storage costs and easily find and recover their critical information when they need it.

If you haven’t noticed by now, several manufacturers are dealing with hard-ware constraints and longer lead times than we are used to. The economy cri-sis of 2009 has affected how manufacturers are stocking their supply chain. In an effort to cut costs, distribution forecasts have been on the conservative side for 2010. However, higher demand has made it difficult for manufacturers to keep up. What does this mean for you? It may be wise to plan ahead for hardware purchases to allow for 1-2 week lead times.

NetWorks, Inc. has noticed delays with HP, Cisco, Lenovo and Dell. Our sales team can help you by researching product availability and finding other alterna-tives to meet your requirements. Contact them at 515-221-1290 or

Fortinet’s New Continuous Service Policy

Effective in May 2010

Fortinet will implement a new Continuous Service Policy to encourage on time renewals by removing any incentive to delay. Fortinet designed FortiCare sup-port and FortiGuard subscriptions to be continuous. When a customer does not renew by the expiration date, then a lapse in the service period occurs which makes the customer’s environment vulnerable to security related threats. Any lapses in service will now require coverage back to the contract expiration date in order to maintain continuous service coverage. The maximum back coverage is limited to six months. In other words, if the coverage has lapsed for more than six months, then out of a one-year renewal contract, six months will be used to cover the lapse in service and then the remaining service time will be used to provide continuing service. The difference between the new start date and end date will not be greater than the service period purchased.

Example of renewing a contract within six months of the prior expira-tion date:

If the expiration of the service contract is April 28, 2010 and a 1-year renewal is purchased and registered on July 29, 2010, then the service period will be from April 29, 2010 to April 28, 2011.

Example of renewing a contract after more than six months have lapsed:

If the expiration of the service contract was August 31, 2008 and a 1-year re-newal is purchased and registered on May 30, 2010, then the start date is ef-fective six months prior (November 30, 2009) and the remaining service period will be through November 30, 2010.

NetWorks, Inc. encourages you to renew your service subscriptions on time. If you have any questions about this new policy, please contact our sales team.
