MAC2011
TABLE OF CONTENTS
WELCOME
MAC2011GERMAN HEART CENTER MUNICH, NOVEMBER 4 AND 5, 2011Dear colleagues,
The significant improvement of diagnostic and therapeutic options for aortic diseases today enables us to treat even very complex lesions by open, endovascular or combined means. There is no doubt that vascular and cardiothoracic surgeons should cooperate rather than compete in this field in order to offer an optimal treatment to their patients. Since these often elderly patients suffer from many co-morbidities a multidisciplinary access including further specialties is mandatory for the clinical success.
For this reason, the Munich Centre for Aortic Diseases (MCA) was founded in 2011. This alli-ance of the department for Vascular Surgery at the “Klinikum rechts der Isar (MRI)” and the department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the German Heart Center Munich (DHM) coopera-tes very closely with other specialities like anesthesia, radiology, cardiology and others at both locations. Since the progress in the management of patients with aortic diseases needs a continuous exchange of data, experiences and skills the Munich Centre for Aortic Disea-ses (MCA) is happy to invite you to the 1st Munich Aortic Conference (MAC).
Our meeting aims to provide an overview of the current treatment options for lesions from the ascending aorta down to the aortic bifurcation. A first-class international faculty will report about the latest advances and future opportunities in open and endovascular aortic surgery. In addition the scientific program offers new insights of translational aortic research including data from vascular biology, biological imaging and computer simulation modalities. The 1st Munich Aortic Conference will be held under the patronage of the German Vascular Society (DGG) and the German Society for Cardiovascular Surgery (DGTHG). We look forward to welcoming you to Munich.

The Trifecta tissue heart valve is redefi ning the standard in cardiac surgery. The unique design allows the pericardial tissue leafl ets to open more fully and effi ciently in order to mimic a native heart valve. The Trifecta valve offers the closest thing to perfect performance with mean gradients in the single digits1 across all sizes – now that’s making history.
