Art Center College of Design

Art Center College of Design, located in Pasadena, California,

United States, is one of the top design colleges in the world.

Founded in 1930, its Industrial Design and Automotive Design

programs are ranked number one in the United States.

The graduates of Art Center are leaders in their fields around

the world and have introduced new creative practices for many

generations.

In the Film Industry, famous Art Center graduates include the

directors Michael Bay (“Transformers”), Zack Snyder (“Man of

Steel”) and Syd Mead (“Bladerunner”). Art Center graduates have

been Chief Designers at all the major car companies around the

world, including Chris Bangle (BMW), Ken Okuyama (Porsche),

and Franz von Holzhausen (Tesla). Art Center graduates Yves Behar

(Fuseproject), Laura Dye (Nike) and De Liu (MiPhone) have achieved

international success in product design and branding.

Art Center College of Design has a long history of working closely

with industry professionals. In the 1990’s, Art Center worked with

Samsung Electronics to make the company more innovative. From

this collaboration, Art Center is credited with changing the business

culture of Samsung. Today, Art Center creates sponsored projects

and design storms with companies such as: Microsoft, HP, Disney,

GE, Honda, BMW, Boeing, Nestle, among many others.

About Create Change Design Forums

Art Center Institute of Design (ACID) in partnership with Art Center College of Design, held the first Create Change Design Forums in China (Beijing), September 26-28, 2014. The Create Change Design Forums have established a strategic partnership with the Beijing Industrial Design Center (BIDC). The next Create Change Design Forums will take place in 2015, beginning in April. The focus of the forums is to envision the future of creativity and design and to teach emerging practices in China from three aspects of the culture industry,They will be taught by prominent Art Center College of Design alumni with distinguished reputations in their fields.

The Create Change Design Forums will offer knowledge and insight of design practices to all people working in the culture industries, including designers, filmmakers, business executives and leaders to gain global competitive advantage in their fields. Art Center graduates will share their creative practices and business insight with innovative Chinese companies.

This year, the professional fields will be Transportation Design, Product Design and Strategy, Concept Design, Film Direction and Production, and Communication and Branding Design. Once again, the Forums will be taught by internationally prominent alumni of Art Center College of Design. The 2015 Forums will be held in Beijing and Shanghai.

Co-founder and Vice-President of Mi Company

Liu is in charge of design strategy, industrial design, graphic and packaging design and investment and corporate strategy of consumer products at Xiaomi Corporation. He leads the design of handset and mobile accessories, achieving sales of 7.3 million handsets and a revenue of 12.6 billion RMB in 2012.

Liu has won many international design awards, including the Osaka International Design Competition, Red Star Design Award, LG International Design Competition, and the China Top 10 Enterprises for Design, and the PlasticLine Design Award in Italy. Liu earned a Master’s degree in Industrial Design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Design at Beijing Institute of Technology. He was the Chair and Co-founder of the Industrial Design Department at University of Science and Technology Beijing.

Lloyd Walker

Design Strategist and Futurist Precurve, LLC.

Lloyd Walker is an experienced executive, entrepreneur, and creative capitalist who invents future products, systems, and business models. He is the President of Precurve, LLC, an innovation management firm providing leadership and acceleration for new initiatives. Walker has practiced human centered design for more than 30 years helping to create wealth and business value for clients and partners.

His clients have included NASA, Disney, Honda, Newell Rubbermaid, Livestrong, Demand Media, Zynga, and many others.

Walker is a faculty member at the Art Center College of Design’s Graduate Industrial Design Program. He has an M.S. in Studies of the Future from the University of Houston, and a B.S. in Industrial Design from Art Center College of Design.

Gordon Bruce

Owner, Gordon Bruce Design and Design Consultant

Gordon Bruce is an internationally recognized designer and the Owner of Gordon Bruce Design. He has worked in Europe, Asia and the U.S. with multinational corporations on a wide range of products – airplanes, office products, computers, medical products, interiors, vehicles and furniture. He has also consulted with clients such as IBM, Mobil Oil, Polaroid, Siemens, Samsung, Lenovo, Porsche Design, and GE. Bruce was hired by Samsung to serve as their Product Design Chairman for the “Innovative Design Lab of Samsung” and served as Chairman of Lenovo’s Consulting Design Committee. Bruce’s designs have been collected by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Smithsonian’s National Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Gordon Bruce is a graduate of Art Center College of Design and recently received Art Center’s “Lifetime Achievement Award”.

Andy Ogden

Chair of Graduate Industrial Design Art Center College of Design

Andy Ogden is the former Vice President, Executive Designer for Walt Disney Imagineering R&D and an influential automobile designer for Honda Research of America. He is an innovation consultant and since 2005 has designed and led Art Center’s world renowned Graduate Industrial Design Program, the top-ranked program in the U.S. Ogden has more than 25 years of professional R&D experience and market success in the areas of consumer products, transportation, entertainment, interactive media and education. He is the principle inventor of seven U.S. invention patents for immersive displays, human interface systems, robotics, and motion simulation.

He is a graduate of Art Center College of Design, B.S. Industrial Design, Transportation and the Executive Management Program, UCLA Anderson School of Management.

Martin Lotti

Vice-President, Design/ Global Creative Director / Nike Global Football

As the V.P. Design and Global Creative Director at Nike, Martin Lotti sets the long term vision and seasonal Creative Direction across Footwear, Apparel and Equipment for Nike Global Football. He leads a global team of designers to build cohesive seasonal collections that deliver on performance features, innovation and business needs. Lotti was born and raised in Fribourg, Switzerland. He received his formal industrial design education from Art Center College of Design and also completed Stanford’s Executive Program. Lotti’s work is part of the permanent collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. His designs have been recognized with multiple international design awards.

Time Magazine called him “Nike’s Creative Whiz” and the Curator of the Guggenheim Museum called him “One of the most gifted designer of his generation.”

Mark “Crash” McCreery

Concept Designer Calypso Productions

Mark “Crash” McCreery is one of Hollywood’s leading and most imaginative Concept Designers. He has worked on many of the most well-known and financially successful films in Hollywood history, giving vision to many of the most famous Film Directors of our time, including: “Terminator 2” , “Batman Returns” and “Edward Scissorhands”, “Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic Park: The Lost World” (with Stephen Spielberg), “Hulk”, and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean.” McCreery’s work on the “Jurassic Park” films led to sales of merchandise, videos and theme park rides approaching U.S.$2 billion. His work has been featured in Cinefex Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety and Barbara Walters “Most Fascinating People.” McCreery graduated from Art Center College of Design with a degree in Illustration.

Geetika Aguawal

Creative Director R/GA

Geetika Agrawal is the Creative Director at R/GA New York, with over 10 years experience designing interactive products, services, spaces and communications for global brands such as Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, MasterCard, MTV, Disney, Samsung, Nokia, Microsoft, AARP, Barnes & Noble and Walmart. Her team’s work has been featured at TED India, Fast Company, CES and won several industry awards including 2013 Cannes Silver Lion. She is part of the R/GA Connected Devices Accelerator Services Team that helped launch start-ups in connected devices and Iot space in 2014 and 2015.

She holds a Masters in Industrial Design from Art Center College of Design. , California and a Bachelors in Interior Architecture from CEPT, Ahmedabad, India.

Ian Sands

Founder | Managing Partner Pilot

With a background in user-experience design and technology R&D, Ian Sands has 20 years of experience inventing and designing long-term futures and next generation software solutions. Sands spent 15 years at Microsoft where he founded and headed the company’s Envisioning effort. Microsoft’s Envisioning group was responsible for driving Microsoft’s 10-year productivity vision and strategy. Sands’ work was recognized as playing a pivotal role in how Microsoft aligned to re-imagine and unify long-term visions for the company.

Sands’ new company, Pilot Lab, is a technology concept lab focusing on product incubation, joint ventures and consulting. Clients include Microsoft, Skype, Pearson, Spotify, Delta Airlines and the private office of Bill Gates. Ian Sands is a graduate of Art Center College of Design.

Nik Hafermaas

Chair of Graphic Design Art Center College of Design

Nik Hafermaas is an international award-winning artist, designer, and educational leader. As the Graphic Design Department Chair at Art Center College of Design, he leads a faculty of over 40 professional designers and 300 students, Nik has created a new curriculum, fusing print and packaging, motion and interaction design into Transmedia Design. This innovative program works across both emerging and traditional media — from data visualization to interactive spatial installations— to create an emotionally powerful experience. His Los Angeles based artist platform Uberall International produces data-driven art installations converging digital media and spatial experiences, including the data-driven sculptures eCloud for San Jose International Airport and AirField for Atlanta International Airport. As former principal and Chief Creative Officer of Triad Berlin he created pavilions for the World Expo2000 and for the Swiss Expo02.

Tim Flattery

Chair of Entertainment Design Art Center College of Design

Tim Flattery is a multi-talented creative concept artist and designer with expertise in concept development, design, fabrication and story for the entertainment industry. In a career spanning more than 25 years, he has worked on some of the biggest films for some of the most famous directors in the world including Steven Spielberg, Robert Zemeckis and Michael Bay. Among the number of highly anticipated films he has worked on are “Star Trek 3,” “Tomorrowland” and “Captain America: Winter Soldier.” Previously he has designed custom vehicles such as the Batmobile for “Batman Forever,” The Fantasticar for “Fantastic Four: Rise of The Silver Surfer,” the Amphibicopter and other vehicles for “A.I. Artificial Intelligence.”

Ryan Church

Ryan Church is a renown Concept Artist and Art Director for the entertainment industry. His films include “Star Wars,” “Avatar,” “Star Trek, ” “Transformers, ” “War of the Worlds” and many other movies and video games.

As a freelance Concept Artist, Church’s client list includes the top film and entertainment studios in the industry: Paramount Studios, Universal Pictures, Mattel, Sony Pictures, Blue Sky Studios, Bay Films, Lightstorm Entertainment, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Dino de Laurentiis Company, Digital Domain, and Electronic Arts, among many others. Church graduated from Art Center College of Design.

Ken Okuyama

Industrial Designer

KEN OKUYAMA DESIGN, CEO

Ken Okuyama is an internationally famous Industrial Designer and the founder and CEO of Ken Okuyama Design. Ken has worked as a Chief Designer for General Motors, a Senior Designer for Porsche AG, and as Design Director for Pininfarina S.p.A., where he was responsible for Ferrari Enzo, Maserati Quattroporte and many other cars. He is also known for numerous products such as motorcycles, furniture, robots and architecture. Ken also produces cars, eyewear, interior products under his original brand. Ken has also a published author of many books on design.

Ken Okuyuama is a graduate of Art Center College of Design.

Richard Chung

Industrial Design, global Interiors, Johnson Controls

As the V.P. of Global Interior Design for Johnson Controls, Richard Chung is one of the leading experts in the world on interior automotive design and consumer experience. Until 2013, he was the V.P. of Industrial Design— Asia Pacific, leading Advanced Sales, Marketing and Design. Previously he held the position of design manager for N.America Small Car studio in Ford Motor Company, later in charge of Ford’s global craftsmanship. Chung earned a B.S. degree in Transportation Design from Art Center College of Design in 1987.

Pierre Leclercq

Great Wall Auto Company

Pierre Leclercq is currently the V.P. and Head of Design at Great Wall Motors. He is in charge of design and global brand quality. As he said to Car Design magazine: “this is a very interesting time for the Chinese car industry, and the ones who build their own identity and history will survive the test to time.” Leclercq was Design Chief at BMW in Munich, Germany. At BMW, he is credited with the highly successful and award-winning designs of the BMW X5 and the X6. Leclercq was born Belgium. He is a graduate in Transportation Design from Art Center College of Design.

Geoff Wardle

Chair of Graduate Transportation Design, Art Center College of Design

Geoff Wardle is currently the Executive Director of Graduate Transportation Design at Art Center College of Design. Wardle graduated in vehicle and mechanical engineering and then attended the Royal College of Art’s Vehicle Design Master’s program in London. He spent 20 years working with different car and vehicle manufacturers around the globe. These companies included British Leyland, Chrysler, SAAB, International Automotive Design, Ford Australia, Tatra of the Czech Republic and TVS Motor in India. He consults to transportation companies and research groups around the world. Wardle is a frequent presenter at international conferences related to transportation, sustainable mobility and design.

Eric Noble

Founder, THE CARLAB

Noble is Founder and President of The CARLAB, an advanced automotive consulting firm which helps manufacturers and suppliers plan and design new vehicles. Founded in 1999, it is the most influential auto product consultancy in North America, serving carmakers from Nissan to Ferrari, Toyota, VW, Honda and Subaru, in addition to industry suppliers such as Continental, global auto clubs and the energy industry.

Noble is also Professor of Vehicle Technology at Art Center College of Design, where most of the world’s top car designers are trained.

He is a frequent media commentator and analyst on the auto industry, and a member of the Motor Press Guild.

Marek Djordjevic

Marek Djordjevic is the Owner of Marek Djordjevic, Inc. He received his design degree at Art Center College of Design. He worked at BMW Designworks USA and at various studio locations in Europe, he worked on the design of BMW concept and production cars, and Mini, MG and Land Rover models.

At BMW, Djordjevic was known exterior designs of Rolls-Royce Phantom, the market leader in the super luxury sector, and Rolls-Royce 100EX. His work also includes the exterior designs of the Phantom Drophead Coupé and the Phantom Coupé. The car was acclaimed by BBC Top Gear magazine as “the best car in the world.” The bespoke 100EX has been hailed by Esquire magazine as “the finest car ever to bear the Spirit of Ecstasy mascot and, therefore, the best luxury car ever.”
