:-lst Team selections in '65
Four Western League teams placed three performers each on the 1966 Helms All-Los Angeles City Board of Football all-star teams, when m e m bers met at Helms Hall to make their annual grid selections. Champion Venice, joined b y Westchester, Palisades and University were the West
ern Loop elevens represented.
It was, however, for 5th-place Fairfax to land the player of the
year selection in quarterback Wayne Radford. Coach Ken McKenna calls
his fine ball player "the best leader, passer and quarterback in the league,"....and the Helms Board certainly agreed.
Jeff Brubaker of Westchester, along with Ernie Brazier of Univers ity, a repeater on this year's first team, was the league's top point
producer for the year with 53 points. The fine Comet halfback scored
six touchdowns and added 17 extra points for his counters.
The Western Loop wound up with Venice on top
(6-0),
followed byWestchester
(5-1),
Palisades ( 1 + -2 ), University ( 2 - 3 ) , Fairfax (2 —Ip),Hamilton
(1-5)
and Hollywood (0-5-1).
Westchester had the best scoringoffense in the league with I8I4. points and allowed the fewest, 3 0. Venice lost a tough playoff decision to Huntington Park in the first round, 11+-1 3.
All players named for Western League honors, both first and second teams, will receive special Helms scroll awards recognizing them for their efforts over the past season. These scrolls, together with m e d allion awards for league player of the year selections, have been pre sented by the Helms Athletic Foundation since
