GEOLOGICAL MAPPIHS OH SHEBANDOWAN CLADE

CONACHER ft HAGEY TOWNSHIPS * PORT ARTHUR MI KING DIVISION

INTRODUCTION

The group mapped, consists of 57 claims in Conacher tt Hagey Townships, off the south shore of Lower Shebandowan Lake*

The mapping was controlled by picket lines, 400 feet apart, except in the southwestern part of the group, where the lines are 200 feet apart*

A 400* per inch geological map accompanies the report*

79736 to 79738, inclusive} 7974/to 79743, inclusive} 79745 t* 79747/ inclusive} is situated on the south shore of Lower Shebandowan Lake, approximately 3 miles west of the village of Shebandowan* .Highway Ho* 120 from the Lakehead to Atikokan and the southern line of the Canadian National Railway, both pass through Shebandowan, making it easily accessible from the Lakehead and Winnipeg.

The topography of the immediate area is of a subdued Pre cambrian type, with low rocky domes and ridges, cutting through drift

filled swampy low lands* :

Second growth spruce, balsam, poplar and birch are plentiful* GEOLOGY OF THE PROPERTY

Three major rock groups occur on the property, the Windigeken sedimentary series, Keewatin lavas and Algoman intrusives*

mnd intermediate composition, which vary from fine-grained grey-white

rhyolite to fine-grained greyish green andesite. Minor flow structures such as flow breccia on a small scale are present in a few places*

On both the east and west portions of the group napped, fairly large bodies of feldspar porphyry occur. The porphyry consists of laths and masses of plagioclase feldspar in a greyish white fine-grained ground mass. Because of a lack of contact relationship in outcrops, it has been assumed that this porphyry is part of the Keewatin Series.

The banded iron formation consists of impure iron bearing bands and black slaty bands across widths of up to 50', In places, along the length if the iron formation, red jasper bands up to 24" In width occur. Wtndigokan Series;

This series, called Wtndigokan by Mr. T. L. Tanton, has been correlated with the Temiskaming Series of other areas.

In this area the sediments have been subject to intense metamorphism, both from the intrusion of the Algoman granite and related intrusives, and from forces proceeding the intrusion.

The most widespread member 6f the Wendigokan Series here, is a conglomerate consisting of angular to sub-angular granite pebbles in a greenish arkosic matrix, with much shearing and alteration present* Interbedded with the conglomerate is a massive arkosic rock, highly metamorphosed.

Along the shore of the lake on claim No* T. B. 79745* fine grained Wendigokan slates are in contact with poorly defined iron formation

of the same series* Pre-algoman and Algoman t

Peridotites, highly altered for the most part, occur in the west part of the group, intruding the volcanics. Although outcrops are few, a magnetic survey followed by diamond drilling shows a length of at leat

feet and widths from 125.0' to 400* of peridotite.

Hornblende porphyrite consisting of a multitude of hornblende crystals in a fine feldspathic groundmass, occurs in several places on the property, usually not far from the granite intrusive. The largest mass of porphyrite nearly crosses the main band of Wendigokan sediments, in the eastern portion of the map area.

Diorite intrudes the Keewatin rocks along the south side of the property. It varies from a fine grained basic rock, through a typical diorite to a coarse grained rock showing diabasic texture in part*

*

Granite feldspar porphyry occurs along the shore of lower Shebandowan Lake, on claims T. B* 75528 and T* B. 79745, and in contact with the Wendigokan iron formation*

The granite of Lower Shebandowan Lake is medium grained,

greenish in color and variable in composition, due probably to assimilation of masses of the rock formations which it intruded* The granite for the most part occurs immediately north of the property except where it cuts

southward through claims T. B. 75656 and T, B. 75655,
