Triniti ™ Product Modeler (TPM) for Oracle Applications 11i
How effective is your Supply Chain
Management?
TPM provides a flexible, intuitive, feature rich graphical user interface that greatly reduces the amount of time and resources required to maintain master data while significantly increasing the quality of the data in Oracle Applications 11i.
TPM also enables you to harness the full power of master data by monitoring the execution of the manufacturing plan throughout the entire supply chain in real time by means of global product structures. Need for Product Modeler
Effective Supply Chain Management is critical to any organization’s success. To achieve optimum supply chain efficiency, an organization’s ERP should support a data model that
• Offers data integrity • Reflects the actual business
scenarios
• Offers visibility across the supply chain
To accomplish the sturdy supply chain data model, traditionally, the modules for inventory, supply chain, order management, and bills of materials are integrated and made to interface with each other. This data model, however, presents an enterprise with the following limitations:
• It takes and presents data in the form of discrete fragmented packets
• It provides the user the ability to access different screens and modules for the following operations:
✦ To enter inventory materials or parts and their descriptive data, and to enable materials in the respective plants.
✦ To group materials and assign the groups to materials
✦ To make cross-references to vendor part number or customer number ✦ To d e fi n e B O M p a r e n t a n d
component relationship
✦ To define Co-Product, alternates and substitutes
✦ To define material supply pattern for all inventory materials
✦ To define full supply chain sourcing Because different modules and screens need to be accessed for these operations, the user loses visibility and track of the data definition. This process is laborious and requires long hours to generate a simple supply chain bill. All these constraints will also apply when the user retrieves data.
These limitations result in:
• Inaccurate / inconsistent items and BOMs
• Long administrative times to maintain basic data
• High administrative costs in maintaining data
• Inability to implement a SCP tool due to poor data
To overcome these limitations, Triniti has developed Triniti Product Modeler, which provides a centralized user interface to build all master data. Triniti Product Modeler offers the user better control and management of data, and presents the data in a user-friendly format. Using Triniti Product Modeler, a significant time can be saved in building a complex BOM.
Triniti Product Modeler is designed to work in conjunction with Oracle® Applications Suite and other Triniti products to provide efficient and effective solutions for data-intensive business processes, and lay the foundation for other processes in the Supply Chain.

Architecture & Core
Components of TPM
The above figure illustrates the three-tier architecture of TPM.Application Builder
The Application Builder facilitates administrators to configure menu items, add workflow types, workflow states, node types, relations, and workflow instances, and set properties for nodes, define auto numbers which are alpha numeric numbers that increment sequentially based on user’s action, create role-based and user-based security profiles and assign different privileges to the users / roles for accessing the application, define model categories where models can be saved, and add viewer instance set and viewer instances.
Find Definition Template
This web application facilitates administrators to create or configure list of values (LOVs) that are used in Product Modeler. Using this module, the administrator can connect to a database and create LOVs based on tables in database.
Authentication Server
This web application facilitates creation of roles and users, and assigning roles to the users for Product Modeler. This module authenticates the users and their roles and controls access to the
Triniti Product Modeler application and its features.
Object Maker
Object Maker is a java class that encapsulates the functionality to retrieve a product structure or Supply Chain BOM from Oracle Applications. Object Maker is installed as part of Product Modeler. It renders critical functionality to Product Modeler. Therefore, it is shown as part of the architecture diagram.
Flush Controller
Flush Controller is a Java class that encapsulates the functionality to flush / send a product structure or Supply Chain BOM from Product Modeler into Oracle Application’s database.
A deployable Web
Application
Triniti Product Modeler is a deployable Web application that interfaces with Oracle Applications. Product Modeler facilitates users to create, modify, and view master data from a single user-friendly interface. Hierarchical and structured data is built by dragging and dropping small images that represent nodes in TPM. Product Modeler allows users to define nodes and associate custom properties and relationships to the nodes. By configuring these nodes, users can make them represent a business entity, a business rule, a customer item etc. The concept of building Supply Chain through Product
Modeler is dependent on nodes and the node relationships built by the user.
A node can be a parent, a child or an alternate to the other nodes. The nature of this relationship results in building the desired supply chain structure. A node will have its own properties.
For example, a node can be assigned with material attributes, categories or cross-references. At the same time, it can be assigned with a quantity, which would represent a component quantity in a BOM. It may as well have a co-product percentage, or sourcing percentage to represent the sourcing pattern of its parent node.
In the default Triniti Product Modeler application that Triniti supplies, the images (nodes) represent the BOM levels - Finished Good, Test Device, A s s e m b l y I t e m , D i e , M o u l d i n g Component, Lead Frame, Gold Wire, Master Wafer, Wafer, Raw and Wafer.
The properties of these nodes are logically grouped as:
✦ Item Properties ✦ Inventory Planning ✦ Co-Product
✦ Co-product substitutes ✦ BOM Properties ✦ BOM Header properties ✦ BOM Component ✦ BOM DFF ✦ Multi-organization Assignment ✦ Item DFF ✦ Categories ✦ Sourcing
✦ Cross reference properties

FAQ
TPM
Is TPM for semiconductor companies alone?
No. TPM will work for any company that needs to manage complex supply chain bills of materials. The images on the item types (nodes) can be configured to any industry.
What versions of Oracle ERP does TPM support?
TPM currently supports 11.5.9, 11.5.10 and R12.06 and R12.1
Can we both create and update data in TPM?
Yes. TPM has the features to both create and update data.
Can you control who updates data at the attribute level?
TPM provides control on updates at the attribute level when it is used in conjunction with workflow. This attribute level control is at the step level in the workflow. So you would be able to control updates at the attribute level.
Does TPM keep an audit trail of the changes made?
Yes. TPM keeps a complete audit trail of all the changes made.
How does TPM update data in the Oracle ERP? Does it use API’s or directly updates the Oracle ERP tables?
TPM uses Oracle supported API’s to update data and does not write directly to the Oracle ERP base tables.
Does TPM update the data synchronously?
Yes. All item, BOM, sourcing and assignment information is updated synchronously in Oracle. The feedback in TPM will update you with all the information that is updated in TPM.
Does TPM update all the data in one transaction?
Yes. If even one attribute fails validation, the it will not create any part of the supply chain BOM. This ensures that the data is complete in Oracle.
How do I add new attributes to the defaults provided by Triniti?
TPM comes with a configuration tool to add new attributes. You can also use Triniti’s off shore abilities to configure new attributes.
Does TPM support single sign on with Oracle?
TPM can provide multiple ways of SSO authentication including Oracle, Active Directory and native TPM validation but reuse of the Oracle authentication. In the latter case you still have to log into TPM but the password authentication will be the same as the Oracle ERP password.
Does TPM have its own database or does it use data in the Oracle ERP?
While TPM has its own database it automatically synchronizes itself with the ERP when you make changes through TPM. This is because while fetching data TPM does not fetch the data from the TPM database but the Oracle ERP and when you update it back is when it refreshes its database. If you make changes in the Oracle ERP directly, the audit data in TPM will not be accurate.
If I have Agile would I still need TPM? Agile is predominantly for Engineering and Oracle ERP is for mass production. Hence the workflows and attributes are different. TPM has rich functionality to maintain supply chain related information which is lacking in Agile. One of our customers uses both Agile and TPM.
