Sidewalk Repair Program

The Roads Division repairs approximately 1,500 sections of

sidewalk and replaces 850 sections annually. County-wide

inspections are performed annually, and repairs are prioritize

based on public safety risks. The condition rating guidelines

are in the following prioritization:

Priority 1 – Missing concrete panel, lifted 2” or higher

Priority 2 – Concrete panels lifted ½” to 2” high

Priority 3 – Concrete panels with heavy cracking,

The cost per linear foot is approximately $65 for sidewalks alone. However there are other associated appurtenances that drive up the project costs:

Western Parkway Ph. 2: Acton Lane to Pierce Road

Project Description

Installed 4,200 lf. of sidewalk and 3,810 lf. of hiker/biker paths along Western Parkway from Acton Lane to Pierce Road. This project was funded through the roadway

Project Description

Construct 460 lf. of sidewalk to connect to existing sidewalk on St. Linus Drive to PD Brown Library. ($30,700)

Project Description

Construct approximately 1,390 lf. of hiker/biker trail from Pierce Road in conjunction with the Western Parkway roadway improvements. This project is funded through the

roadway improvement project. ($90,350)

Project Description

Construct approximately 792 lf. of sidewalk from Thoroughbred Court to Middletown Road to connect existing sidewalks. ($89,500)

Mill Hill Road: Homecoming Lane to Davis Road

Project Description

Construct 1,585 lf. of sidewalk from the North Point Subdivision to connect with the existing asphalt path on Davis Road. The project is being 100% funded by the

FHWA/MDSHA Safe Routes to School program. ($370,890)

Hamilton Road Ph. 1: Acton Lane to Quietfields Street

Project Description

Construct approximately 2,900 lf. of sidewalk from Acton Ln. to Quietfields St. as part of 6,000 lf. sidewalk/hiker/biker trail project. This project is funded as a stand-alone project.

Construct 900 lf. of shared hiker/biker trail from Causeway Dr. to Commerce Street. ($101,700)

Project Status/Schedule/Timeline

Currently assessing right of way acquisitions and stormwater management options.

Estimated start of construction – July 2022 (pending availability of funding).

Westlake Community: St. Patricks Drive and Md. Route 301

Project Description

Construct 3,275 lf. of sidewalk and hiker/biker trail to establish an interconnected

sidewalk network in the vicinity of St. Charles Mall. This project is recommended to be funded as a stand-alone project. ($212,800)

Billingsley Road: St. Patrick’s Drive to Middletown Road

Project Description

Construct sidewalks along Billingsley Road from St. Patrick’s Drive to Middletown Road to connect existing sidewalks. This project is recommended to be funded as a stand-alone project. ($81,250 and $494,000)

Project Status/Schedule/Timeline

➢ St. Patrick’s Dr. (1,250 lf.): Procurement to start construction in April 2021.

Sidewalk Improvement Program

Project Description

Construct approximately 5,280 lf. of hiker/biker trail along Middletown Rd. from Indian Head Rail Trail to Billingsley Road. ($449,000)

Project Status/Schedule/Timeline

Hiker/biker trail to be constructed with Middletown Road Phase 3 project. Feasibility study for roadway project is currently underway to determine roadway alignment and
