underclass-men. The rigorous 1978 schedule includes 15 NCAA Division I and six NCAA Division II opponents - as well as a trip south to "wazm up"

Coach's Profile - George Acker

George Acker, an associate professor of physical education, received both his B.S. and his M.A. from Northern Illinois University. He has been Kalamazoo's head tennis coach for 19 years, winning 19 MIAA championships and one NCAA championship as well.

AIAW (National) Small College Tennis Tournament

in Santa Barbara, Ca.

Prospectus

Since Kalamazoo has only lost one WMIAA tennis championship since

1956, hopes are high that this year the team will place first in WMIAA

(8)

Kalamazoo ranked first among small colleges and fourth overall. This year the SMAIAW competition will be broken down into separate tournaments, and the Hornets will have a good chance of winning the state small college tournament.

All of last year's top five players --sue Fitzgerald, Merrill Smith, Christy Bishop, Sheila Wang, and Karen Lucas -will be returning this season, and April Kenworthy, who was sixth two years ago, will rejoin the team. Last year's JV players should be stronger this season, and the new group of freshman players look promising.

Coach's Profile - Tish Loveless

Tish Loveless is director of women's intercollegiate sports and a professor of physical education. She received her B.S. from the University of Illinois, her M.S. from the University of California at Los Angeles, and her Ph.D. from Michigan State University. Loveless has coached women's tennis at Kalamazoo for 22 seasons, winning 19 WMIAA championships.
