Self Select Distribution offers free newspaper and magazine publishers a cost effective alternative distribution service via the UK leading retail groups. Previously local magazine publishers were gaining access to stores via local agreements with stores. This led to chaos with several racks, styles and empty units. The supermarkets realise that customers clearly enjoy the free magazines and have developed a “pay and display” system via Self Select Distribution for publishers to utilise approved Self Select Distribution branded display units. All other free display units and magazines have therefore been removed leaving stores clutter free from unofficial displays.

Self Select Distribution formed a dedicated distribution organisation to bring a high level of professionalism and quality control into the pick-up distribution market. Distribution outlets, their customers and pick up advertisers all benefit from clean, regularly serviced, branded displays carrying a choice of free titles.

The basis of the Self Select Distribution proposition is built upon the fact that the only people who will pick up a copy are those interested in the magazine subject. The self-selection process allows customers to pickup whichever magazine appeals directly to them. They are therefore much more likely to respond to the advertising. By gaining access as a “free” title via Self Select Distribution publishers can quickly get access to major stores to distribute significant effective quantities to the public in the area.

The distribution network is centrally controlled via the Self Select

Distribution Head Office. A team of full time distribution operatives service the network supported by main contracting companies and self employed distributors.

In the case of stores that are open 24 hours or have extremely high footfall additional visits are made to maintain stock levels. Smaller convenience stores and petrol sites generally receive copies once per week. All product supplies and pick-up results are recorded on every visit.

All publishers receive weekly management information normally by noon Tuesday to ABC approved distribution standards. All returns are counted and collected by Self Select Distribution.

Free publications display units have been fitted with side display

panels “Impact Boards”.

Each display has been fitted with two impact boards that can be

used by all Self Select publishers to :

• Fight competitor titles by town or post codes.

• Attract new customers to the Self Select unit to pick up your title.
