Dear AMELIA SMITH,

Thank you for your recent request - here is a copy of your credit file.

Veda holds credit related information obtained from a range of sources, such as from credit providers including banks, building societies and finance companies, as well as utilities such as electricity and telecommunication providers.

When you make an application for credit, such as applying for a credit card, the decision to approve or decline this credit rests solely with the credit provider.

Your credit information is not available to the general public. Only subscribers (i.e. those who have signed a subscriber agreement and are eligible to do so in accordance with the Credit Reporting Privacy Code 2004) and those acting under a statutory power may access this credit information.

This information may be accessed by our subscribers who may include:

 credit providers  utilities  prospective landlords  prospective employers  prospective insurers  debt collectors

 people involved in court proceedings

 certain public sector agencies acting under the law

In some instances, in order to access your credit file, some subscribers will require your consent e.g. credit providers whereas others may not require consent e.g. debt collectors.

Stay Alerted

It’s important that everyone monitors and understands their credit file for many reasons, one in particular being identity theft. My Veda Alert is one way to be alerted to possible identity theft, which is one of New Zealand’s fastest growing crimes.

Fraudulent people who might gain access to your details could then use them to apply for credit, in which case the credit check for their application could appear on your credit file, as well as any potential overdue
