Hydrogen peroxide (HrOr) decomposes to produce oxygen and water. The rate of reaction can be

increased by the use

ofiatalysts.

The effect of the mass of a catalyst on the rate of decomposition

of

hydrogen peroxide was investigated.

For EACH experiment, a different mass of the catalyst, manganese(IV) oxide gvtnOr) was combined

with 50 cm3 of 0.8 mol dm3 hydrogen peroxide solution and the volume of oxygen produced was

measured. The masses used are shown on the balances displayed in Figure 1.
