ACT Test Prep Fall Courses

The ACT Test Prep Program consists of 24 hours of classroom instruction from an

experienced instructor, together with additional practice problems and sample tests. Our

comprehensive program emphasizes all ACT test components: Test Taking Strategies, Question Formats, Math, English, Reading Comprehension, and Science Reasoning.

Once you’ve mastered the basics, you’re ready to move on to our Intermediate Excel course which will introduce you to charting features and database management in Microsoft Excel 2010. Delving into Diversity

According to the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, the U.S. work-force (generally ages 25 to 64) is in the midst of a sweeping demographic transformation. From 1980 to 2020, the white working-age population is projected to decline from 82% to 63% while during the same period, the minority portion of the workforce is projected to double from 18% to 37%. The failure to manage diverse employ-ees results in lawsuits, turnover, and lowered productivity—things that you don’t want for your company or yourself. This course goes beyond a legal understanding of fair supervisory practices to assist in building a culture that maximizes the potential of diversity.

Advanced Excel

Decisions, decisions. Sometimes, they can be quite difficult, especially when they involve an entire company. This training session is de-signed help you in the decision-making process. Areas such as inventory control, production integration, quality, and optimization of process operations will be discussed. Career and Workforce Development (CWD) provides professional training, critical skills courses, and certification programs to meet the workforce development needs of South Central Kentucky. We call on the expertise of our WKU faculty to develop training classes and programs to meet these needs. CWD serves to facilitate the development of the pro-gram from beginning to end through assis-tance in: determining industry need, instruc-tional design, marketing management, and bringing the program to our partner.

Lifelong Learning (LL) partners with Uni-versity faculty and staff, as well as outside or-ganizations, to provide this region with enrich-ment opportunities for every age group and in a variety of interest areas. LL facilitates the development of the program from beginning to end through assistance in: determining inter-est/need, program design, marketing and pro-motion, handling registration, and coordinating location, catering, and parking.

The Society for Lifelong Learning (SLL) at WKU is a member-driven organization dedi-cated to offering a wide range of high quality, intellectually stimulating, non-credit education-al programs and experiences for those 50 and over.

Members may attend unlimited SLL classes/ courses and social events. Additional fees may apply for travel programs and some course materials.

MOTORCYCLE RIDER EDUCATION

Basic Rider Course

Sep. 18 - 20, 2015 Kentucky Residents: $150 Oct. 23 - 25, 2015 Non-residents: $250

The Basic Rider Course is for non-riders, new riders, or someone wanting a refresher course. It is open to anyone sixteen years of age or older. Rider Coaches are certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. They’ll start you off with straight-line riding, turning, shifting and stopping. You’ll gradually progress to cornering, swerving and emergency braking. In the classroom you’ll learn about the different types of motorcycles, their controls, and how they operate.

The Rider Coaches, all experienced motorcyclists, will advise you on what to wear for comfort and protection. You’ll find out how alcohol and other drugs affect your ability to ride safely. A very important segment of the course will show you how to create your own strategy for riding in traffic, and dealing with critical situations.

Kentucky students successfully completing the course will receive a license waiver for the skill test to obtain your motorcycle license (and some insurance agencies offer discounts).

Motorcycles and helmets are furnished to each student. Register early, the class size is limited to 12. This class is currently offered free to 16 and 17 year old Kentucky residents. Limit of two free spots per class.
