➢ Genuine concern for others as brothers and a desire for spiritual growth can ONLY
proceed from lives filled with divine love. Otherwise, we are too self-centered

contributing to the needs of God’s people, pursuing [the practice of] hospitality.
14
Bless those who persecute you [who cause you harm or hardship]; bless and do not curse
[them].

others’ grief].
Galatians 6:1-2 (Amp)
Brothers, if anyone is caught in any sin, you who are spiritual [that is, you who are responsive to
the guidance of the Spirit] are to restore such a person in a spirit of gentleness [not with a sense of
superiority or self-righteousness], keeping a watchful eye on yourself, so that you are not tempted
as well.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me,
believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit,

teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you
always [remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every
occasion], even to the end of the age.”
Principles for Making Disciples
1. Individual
a. Disciple making is re-parenting
b. Prioritize pouring into serious believers
c. Be people-based more than program-based
d. Have a relational paradigm
a. Disciple making is re-parenting
1 Corinthians 4:15 (TPT)
15
For although you could have countless babysitters in Christ telling you
what you’re doing wrong, you don’t have many fathers who correct you in love.
But I’m a true father to you, for I became your father when I gave you the
gospel and brought you into union with Jesus, the Anointed One.
b. Prioritize pouring into serious believers
1. Marked by abounding love
Philippians 1:9 (TPT)
9I continue to pray for your love to grow and increase beyond measure, bringing you into the rich
revelation of spiritual insight in all things.
2. Marked by growing knowledge
Philippians 1:9 (TPT)
9I continue to pray for your love to grow and increase beyond measure, bringing you into the rich
revelation of spiritual insight in all things. Psalm 119:105 (TPT)
Truth’s shining light guides me in my choices and decisions; the revelation of your Word makes my pathway clear. 1 Corinthians 2:15 (TPT)
15Those who live in the Spirit are able to carefully evaluate all things, and they are subject to the scrutiny of no
one but God.
Ephesians 1:17 (TPT)
17I pray that the Father of glory, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, would impart to you the riches of the Spirit
c. Be people-based more than program-based
1. Community was a core value in the early church and an expression of what it meant to follow
Jesus. From the very beginning, believers were gathering in their homes and gathering in
community.
“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread
and the prayers.” Acts 2:42 (ESV)
d. Have a relational paradigm
1. All are members of the body of Christ, none of us is the body by ourselves. Together we make up the body and need one another.
1 Corinthians 12:12 (NLT)
“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.” 2. Friendship is a vital value of the Christian faith. - Our relationships closest to us determine if we are strong
in our faith, pulled off course, or are lonely and isolated. Proverbs 13:20 (ESV)
“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” Proverbs 27:17 (ESV)
“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 18:1 (ESV)
“Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire; he breaks out against all sound judgment.” Proverbs 15:33 (ESV)
“Do not be deceived: ‘bad company ruins good morals.’”
