Multiple reporting systems requiring duplicate maintenance. Reporting is done in many disparate systems - creates conflicting reports, requiring

manual reconciliation. Data Quality is a challenge

High degree of data-duplication.

Operationally heavy ‘Month-End’ process related to reporting.

CAPEX forecasting is extremely manual and relies on strong communication between accounting and operations. Multiple systems, aggregation

reporting not possible.

Some mandatory reporting (specifically tax) is not automatically generated

Reporting Challenges

Some mandatory reporting (specifically tax) is not automatically generated out of the current system.

Master Data Maintenance Problem: multiple GL account codes (master

data) created and maintained across the systems

No self service access for a customers; not able to easily access information

about their accounts across business lines. Problems in ‘credit limits’ or ‘quantity received’ view.

Push vs. Pull – Reporting Access v/s Distribution

Existing custom data warehouse solution on SQL database. It has fairly broad usage and follows a Layered Scalable Architecture principle.

New SAP Applications roll out at Love’s – SAP ECC (Finance) and CRM both running on SAP HANA™ database. To leverage HANA Live component for

operational reporting & analytics.

% of total active business data in SAP ECC/CRM is has been determined to quantify SAP BW-EDW proposal factor. SAP BPC NW version is in scope for

enterprise application footprint to conduct financial consolidation and possibly planning/budgeting in future. BPC NW demands all relevant data set to be

planning/budgeting in future. BPC NW demands all relevant data set to be available in SAP BW.

To feed SAP data back to existing custom data warehouse so the legacy reporting works out-of-the box. Enterprise need to feed non-SAP data in SAP solutions, preferably leveraging standard ETL framework.

No BW-near line storage solution leveraging Sybase IQ to support true EDW

framework now. Will consider the solution in future. Archiving is a big a factor for deciding EDW solution.

SAP’s open EIM tool – Business Objects Data Services is present in current enterprise architecture.

Do you need BW?

Understanding Data Temperature and near-line data storage

Hot Data Data is read and/or written frequently. Always inMemory. All features

enabled < 1 year

Warm Data Infrequent access, on disk no need to keep inMemory all the time. All

features enabled

Depends on applications, generally between 1-3 years but application dependent

Cold Data Sporadic access, not stored in HANA DB but in NLS. Restricted to NLS

capabilities > 3 years of data

BW Porting

General Porting

SAP HANA predominantly holds its data in its volatile memory space. There is a certified high availability and disaster recovery

solution in place, but still rebuilding TB scale data after system restart will take time. SAP HANA is comparatively 60% more expensive than a comparable RDBMS solution but can hold somewhere between 500-1000% more data. Also the memory cost is going down at a rate of >20%. A standard IT warehouse extends at a rate of 20% year over year.
