Quick Scan is a simple Excel tool that calculates the CO2

emissions and gives a clear overview

– Quick Scan is an initial, relatively simple tool that helps you to determine your CO2 emissions as a result of the logistic activities of hauliers

– The tool is aimed at hauliers and shipping agents – It is an Excel spreadsheet that can calculate the CO2

emissions based on input data such as mileage, fleet and energy consumption

– By entering the requested information, the distribution of the CO2 emissions across different activities also becomes transparent

– The data can be entered for several years, showing you the development of your CO2 emissions

The tool provides an initial estimate of a company's CO2 emissions

The tool in a nutshell

The tool consists of 7 steps in which data can be easily edited

Quick Scan

The tool consists of 7 input areas. After entering the data, the results are immediately displayed in the sheet

Enter composition of own fleet Enter energy consumed by own fleet

Enter general business data Enter energy consumed by multiple modes of

transport/subcontracted miles

Enter other energy consumption

Specify distribution transport as % of total

volume

(specific for hauliers)

View results

Specify distribution logistic activities as % of

total volume

(specific for shipping agents)

(4)

User passes through the 7 steps and enters the details so the

relevant information is displayed

Steps Activities Estimated Time Enter composition of own

fleet Here user must enter the type of trucks/cars, the capacity and mileage

10 mins

Enter estimate per year unless data is available. You can enter data for 3 years

Enter energy consumed by

own fleet User must enter the quantities of diesel, biodiesel, LPG and petrol 5 mins Enter energy consumed by

multiple modes of

transport/subcontracted miles

User must enter the mileage per (subcontracted) mode of transport (road, inland

waterway, maritime, air) 10 mins

Enter general business data User must enter the data relating to employees, warehouses en leased cars 5 mins

Enter other energy consumption

User must enter data relating to energy consumption, gas, diesel fuel for leased

cars, etc. 10 mins

Specify distribution of transport as % of total volume

User (this is specifically for hauliers) can enter the distribution of the transported volume across the various transport markets (such as building materials, tank transportation and distribution)

10 mins

Specify distribution of logistic activities as % of total volume

User (this is specifically for shipping agents) can enter the distribution across the

inbound, internal and outbound logistics 5 mins

View results After completion the various (CO2) values and other indicators are automatically

displayed 5 mins

Input is free, can be done with limited expertise, but correct

logistic details must be entered

People & Resources

• Because it is so easy to use Quick Scan, anyone with PC skills can enter the data

• If the requested data is available, data entry can be completed within 1 to 3 hours (depending on the number of years user wants to complete)

• Required expertise: Business Analyst, Business

Controller or Logistics Manager or Transport Manager

Access to company information is critical Using the Emission Scan Logistics tool is free • The necessary data will come mainly from the logistic

administration / organization and from energy bills / statements. It does not require extensive research, but some details (especially contracted miles) need to be obtained from third parties

• There are no required fields so partial data entry will suffice

• User will need data on: – Composition fleet

Example, the number of cars per load size – Energy consumed by fleet

Example, litres of diesel fuel

– Energy consumed by multiple modes of

transport/subcontracted miles

Example, subcontracted air transport miles – Business (general information)

Example, number of employees – Other energy consumption

Example, energy bill for gas in m3 – Distribution transport in % total volume

Example, % container transport

– Distribution logistic activities in % of total volume Example, % inbound logistics

(6)

Quick Scan provides rapid and initial insight into CO2

emissions, traffic volume and its distribution

After completion, Quick Scan provides an annual statement of: – Distribution of kilometres (%) across the fleet

– CO2 emissions from the used energy types

– CO2 emissions per (subcontracted) mode of transport – List of key figures relating to the company

– The CO2 emissions from other energy sources such as electricity and diesel from leased cars – The distribution in percentages of the volumes transported across various sub markets

– The distribution in percentages of the volumes transported across inbound, internal and outbound logistics – Total CO2 emissions

• The tool is especially suitable for companies with logistic activities (subcontracted or not), especially hauliers and shipping agents • The tool provides an easy way to create a baseline measurement of CO2 emissions. It provides initial support to determine which

activities cause CO2 and what information is required. It also provides insight into how changes in the basic data can lead to changes in CO2 emissions

• In addition to this insight, the CO2 emissions are also a linked to the (transported) volume so a relative volume of emissions can be determined
