Complete Health
“To affect pain to others by body & mind is sin, To earn a living honestly is human, to give is divine.” We all are born as humans. Let’s try to be divine. Physical Health
Our Body
• All the cells of our body get changed within a cycle of seven years. So we can change the whole system by changing our diet.
• Every cell is conscious, alive and contains DNA. • Have 10 indriyas…
5 Karmendriya – Hand, leg, tongue (talk), Penis (urination), anus (stool) and
5 Gyanedriya – Eye, ear, nose, skin, tongue (taste)
• Quantum Physics – Basic structure of nature is not limited up to atoms but up to quantum level. Quantum is smaller than atoms by 10-100m. Matter and energy are convertible in each other at quantum level. Their vibrations have more speed than light. Therefore experiences at quantum level are called super sensual. Systems
1. Skeletal
It is made of 206 Bones & Joints. It gives Support, Shape, and Movement to the body. It contains organic chemicals like calcium, phosphorous and iron; also inorganic cells which produce red blood cells.
2. Muscular
This system has muscles which is responsible for gross body movement. It has fibrous structure and forms 50% weight of the body.
3. Nervous
Main organs for this system are nerves, brain and spinal cord. It is like telephone exchange which senses, communicate and co-ordinate activities of various body parts.
Brain nerves are kept floating in CSF. Right brain controls the left side of the body and left brain controls the right side of the body. All information is gathered through 5 senses and necessary orders are passed based on past knowledge & experience. It contains around 1 billion cells.
and join various organs of the body. Proper care must be taken to keep it healthy.
Do not lift heavy loads; avoid jerks, cold & high heeled sandels, sit erect and do following exercise.
While inhaling raise hands, go backward. Then with exhaling come forward, bend and try to touch your toes.
4. Integumentary
Skin, hair, nails & glands are main parts of this system which protects body from outside environment. Skin is porous & only 1.5mm thick. It has 7 layers.
5. Digestive
It is like chemical plant. Main organs are mouth, stomach, lever, intestine, pancreas and anus. It is responsible for digestion, absorption of nutrients, and ejection of residue.
Stomach secrets juices like pepsin & renin for digestion of proteins.
Small intestine is 7m long. Most of the food is digested here and broken down in simpler products like amino acid, glucose etc. These are absorbed here and turned in to blood (alkaline) by spleen. Unabsorbed residue and undigested food then goes to large intestine to form stool. Only 1 Kg of blood is formed with 40 Kg of food. Following sequence of 7 operations is completed in 49 days- Liquid, Blood, Fat, Muscles, Bones, Bone-marrow, and Semen.
Liver is most vital & biggest gland in the body. It is responsible for cooling of the body. It secrets bile juice & stores in gall bladder. It is alkaline in nature. The juice is supplied to small intestine whenever demanded to neutralize semi- digested acidic food. In case it does not function properly, acids of stomach are not neutralized and the result is acidity, ulcer. Also excess heat is responsible for warming of air in the stomach, poor eye sight, hair falling and jaundice. Heated air occupies empty space in the head. When body comes in contact with cold winds, warmed air of the body gather moisture and the result is cold due to heat, sneezing, sinus trouble, and headache. Liver stores fats, minerals, and vitamins. It converts sugar into glycogen & vice-versa. Also it removes toxins and unwanted by products.
Anti-biotic drugs and infra red rays adversely affect the working of lever. Pancreas produces digestive juices as well as insulin. Its digestive juices help in digestion of protein, carbohydrate and fats. Insulin regulates the sugar level in the body. In case of over working, worries & excitement, body demands more sugar/glucose through adrenal gland. Pancreas slows down its process to reduce production of insulin & release more quantity of sugar. More consumption of sugar due to over working leads to low BP, migrane, headache. Low consumption leads to diabetes.
6. Respiratory
Body requires oxygen to produce energy from stored food materials. Impure blood from the heart comes in lung capillaries where it absorbs oxygen from inhaled air and releases impurities which are exhaled out.
Passage of air should be clear otherwise it causes breathlessness.
The capacity of lungs should be fully developed by doing pranayam, swimming, outdoor games, laughing, crying and running.
Nadi Shodhan Pranayam- In 1:2:1:1 or 1:4:2:2 Ratios I.e. Inhale counting: 10
Retain/hold counting: 20/40 (Lungs get rest, so revitalized). Retention capacity is increased by meditation mudra i.e. by pressing lower part of thumb.
Exhale counting: 10/20
Refrain/pause counting: 10/20 7. Circulatory
Its main organs are heart, blood, arteries and veins. It transports nutrients & wastes.
Heart has 4 compartments. When heart expands (diastole) impure blood from body & pure blood comes from lungs into upper right & left compartment respectively. This blood then goes to lower portion. During contraction (systole) pure blood is pumped to whole body & impure blood into lungs. In normal conditions heart throbs for 72 times per min. which means more work for heart. During exercise heart throbs for 50-60 times per min. thus less work for heart and low chance of heart attack.
Blood is filtered in kidneys also and toxins are released to bladder. In case lungs & kidneys are not functioning properly toxins are released through skin which creates problems of skin.
Cerebro Spinal Fluid (CSF-70%Chloride, 5% Proteins, 5%Glucose + cells etc.) is very vital life juice (Amrit). It is extracted from the blood in head portion and circulated in the brain. Then it goes to spinal cord up to prostate gland.
High BP – It is the result of excess sodium (salt-NaCl). It makes cells of valve outlet stiff from where CSF starts upward journey for nervous system. Therefore more pressure is required to supply CSF. Pineal gland which controls all other glands situated is located near this outlet, so gets damaged due to high BP. To control High BP take rock salt (KCl), silver/copper charged water and use acupressure.
Low BP is result of over functioning of pancreas. Due to low BP, sugar content in CSF reduces and body becomes weak. Take milk/tea/coffee with sugar as an immediate solution.
8. Immune
It contains white blood cells and certain bone marrow cells. It works as defense against viruses, parasites and micro-organisms.
9. Urinary/Excretory
10. Reproductive
Main organs in males are testes, seminal vesicles, prostate, and penis and in females are ovaries, fallopian tube, uterus, and vagina. These organs produce hormones and sex cells (sperm & ova).
11. Lymphatic
It has lymph nodes and thymus which clears toxins & dead cells. Lymph gland is not endocrine gland. They control the defense system and prevent formation of pus on injury. Malfunctioning leads to cancer and increase in blood sugar.
Bio-Electricity
The functioning of whole body depends on supply of power-energy-electricity-pran-chetna-life-current. Research shows there are 4 types of current produced in the brain. Communication between cells depends upon available frequency and voltage.
Sl.No. Wave Frequency-Hz/sec
Voltage-µV
Condition of Body
1 Beta 13-25 5-10 When brain is busy with some mental activities like analysis, stress…
2 Alpha 10-12 50 During meditation, at rest with eyes closed, brain is alert & occupied.
3 Theta 5-8 10 Deep meditation, sleep, joy
unconscious mind, creativity, childhood…
4 Delta 1-5 20-200 Samadhi, Sound sleep or brain damage
ECG & EEG also prove the existence of electricity flowing in the body. So to function properly body needs electricity with equal +ve and –ve charges. Excess of positive charge creates excess heat in the body which leads to hyperacidity, sluggish lever etc. Excess of negative electricity leads to excess water content, reduced digestion power etc.
“Energy can not be created, it can be only be transformed”
All fruits, vegetables and agricultural products get energy from sun and ripened. We then consume it to get energy.
Jain’s practice: Follow twice a year- Take boiled water and one cereal one time each day. It increases resistance power and give proper balance of +ve and –ve charge.
1. Rice 2. Wheat 3. Gram 4. Mung/Chinese peas 5. Urad 6 to 9. Rice Charging
current flow toward (-ve) and breathing is automatically changes to left nostril. The cooler air then reaches to brain and this cycle goes on.
The electricity thus produced is passed through spinal cord and stored in prostrate where it remains idle. This latent electric power is called as kundalini. With certain yogic exercises this latent power can be awakened & made to flow upwards through 7 chakras/endocrine glands.
1. When it penetrates Mooladhar/sex glands, the sex power increases.
2. When it penetrates Swadithan/pancreas-adrenal glands, the digestion power increases.
3. When it penetrates Vishudha/thyroid-parathyroid glands, the purifying power increases.
4. When it penetrates Ajna/ pituitary glands, the commanding power increases. They are genius persons-scientist, philosopher etc.
5. When it penetrates Sahastrar/pineal glands, the third eye/light is opened increases. They are persons with divine powers
The electricity thus produced reactivates nearly 3 billion cells of brain. They are standing in line like teeth of comb. Electricity jumps from one cell to another. If the flow of current is weak, cells dry up and vice-versa. Therefore even great scientists have hardly utilized 15% of the brain.
5 Elements & Mudras- Forms metabolism of body. Thumb to small finger represents it in this sequence…FASEW. Thumb makes various mudras when contacted with other fingers. Mudras should be performed along with Pranayam for at least 30 min. a day for good results.
Elements in order of decreasing weight….. Earth – Water – Fire – Air - Space
Fire- It is a positive element. Centre is stomach. It heats water, induce hunger & thirst. Helps formation of blood to semen and anti-bodies. It helps thinking & discrimination. Represented & controlled by thumb. Correct temperature of the body is 36.9oC/98.6oF.
Air- It is a negative element. Centre is lungs & heart. It helps in purifying of mind, and heart. Also helps in increasing brain power, memory and self control. Also it helps respiration and downward movement of urine & stool. Represented & controlled by index finger (meditation mudra).
Space- It is a negative element. Covers entire body. There has to be space for circulation of blood & air. If this space is blocked, there is chance of heart attack etc. Represented & controlled by middle finger. Shunya mudra cures deafness.
Earth- It is a neutral element. Centre is physical structure of body (bones flesh). People with more weight are good example. They are inactive & lot of energy is required to activate them. Represented & controlled by ring/4th finger. Prithvi mudra cures weakness of body and gives peace of mind.
controlled by small finger. Varun mudra cures impurities of blood & skin problems.
Body water gets heated during the day and cools down during night. It creates moisture in the lung and head. Therefore sneezing in the morning is considered good.
When body temperature goes down due to weakness of digestive power, evaporation of water reduces. This results in gathering of excess water in lung, chest, and throat. This cycle leads to common cold, fever, headache, tonsillitis etc. The problem is aggravated by cold drinks, heavy foods, curd, buttermilk, lemon and exposing body to cold winds.
During full moon and no moon days, there is increase in the water level of the body. Therefore one should take less water, green vegetables and food during this period and avoid excess water in the body.
1. Vat- Excess of air element. People have more sleep & gas trouble. They should avoid heavy oily food.
2. Pit- Excess of fire & air element. Use of more anti-biotic, eating of spicy/oily food, more anxiety is main causes. It leads to ulcer, cold due to heat, sex weakness, falling of hair, skin problem, and short temperedness. 3. Khaph- Excess of earth & water. This results in excess fat, heaviness,
dullness, cold etc. It is caused due to overeating, indigestible food, soft drinks, over sex, sleeping in the day. Indigestion of food fail to produce enough heat in the body, therefore water content increases in the body.
Fruits & Vegetables
• Nature produces those fruits & vegetables which are suitable for that climate and area. So take plenty of locally produced items.
• Some fruits resemble shape of various organs of the body. These are suitable to eat for healthiness of those organs e.g. apricot/brain, almond/eyes, apple/heart, grapes/lungs, cashew nuts/kidney, Papaya, mango/stomach, banana/sex power, pears, jamfal/ovary.
• Take fruit and vegetables of various colours as different colours have different effect. First 3 colours of VIBGYOR have cooling effect, middle one is neutral and last 3 have heating effect.
6 Tastes (Charak Sanmhita)
Astringent- Air & water, Bitter- Air & space, Pungent- Air & fire Sweet- Water & earth, Sour- Water & fire, Salty- Earth & fire Energy
The whole cosmos gets energy from sun. So all vegetables & fruits have natural storage of sun’s energy. Our requirement can be fulfilled by taking one glass each of fruit and green juice per day. “Eat green and be evergreen.”
Chakras/Endocrine Glands
These are regulators & protectors of the body. They produce secretions which get mixed with blood stream to make body healthy. Overworking & under working of these glands causes problems. Also they mould mind and character. They maintain the metabolism-control of five elements and regulate the functions of all body organs.
1. Mooladhar-sex, gonads, testes, ovary gland
It controls water & phosphorous- so blood cells, flesh, bone, bone marrow, semen. Also they produce sex hormones.
2. Swadhisthan-solar plexus
It controls apan air so the urine, stool and all organs below diaphragm. 3. Manipur-Adrenal & pancreas
Adrenal controls fire, water and pancreas controls sodium. Adrenal produces digestive juices and pancreas controls sugar level in the blood. Over functioning of adrenal cause high BP, acidity and over working of pancreas leads to low BP. Helpful in character building, leadership as it gives natural vigour and drive for action.
4. Anahat-Thymus
Acts as godmother till the child attains puberty (-15years). It protects the child against any disease. Once body is fully developed, gland shrinks and stops its activities. It causes dullness in case it becomes active again. 5. Vishudha-thyroid & parathyroid
Controls air- so lungs & heart. It digests calcium & phosphorous and eliminates toxins. It causes problem of calcification/stone in case it is not working properly. Under working leads to teeth problems.
It helps in development of human qualities like love, balanced temperament, purity of heart, concentration etc.
Women put on weight when it is damaged along with sex glands after giving birth to child.
6. Ajna-Pituitary
Controls air & space, growth of body, will power, memory. It is the king of all glands. It controls the growth of the body. Malfunctioning leads to bulky body or dwarfish. Worries & injury damages this gland and leads to malfunctioning of other glands.
7. Sahastrar-Pineal
Manages all glands, regulates water balance, maintains sodium & potassium balance, and controls CSF and sex desire. Malfunctioning of this gland leads to high BP and increase in water content.
It is harmful to hit children on head. Pranayam
Close the right nostril and breathe through left nostril by counting. Left nostril is connected with moon or Ida nadi.
Otherwise lie down right side. Left nostril will work automatically.
Also it is useful for getting a girl child if intercourse is done on odd days (9, 11, 13, and 15) of menstrual cycle.
2. Sun Pranayam- It increases heat in the body. Therefore useful for cold, polio, asthma, arthritis, paralysis, TB, bronchitis.
Close the left nostril and breathe through right nostril by counting. Right nostril is connected with sun or pingala nadi.
Otherwise lie down left side. Right nostril will work automatically. Therefore it is useful to lie after lunch or dinner for about 15 min. It generates heat for digestion of food.
Also it is useful for getting boy child if intercourse is done on even days (8, 10, 12, and14) of menstrual cycle.
Heat is life while cold is death
3. Balanced or Anulom-Vilom pranayam
Inhale from right, exhale from left and then vice-versa. Repeat this. 4. Kapalbhati
Inhale & exhale fast @ 50 times/min. 5. Bhastrika
Do it after Kapalbhati. Open your mouth, slowly inhale and blow out hard Avoid following food combinations
Garlic, onion, fish, pulses, citrus fruit, antibiotics ….. Unwarmed milk and milk products.
Diseases
Diseases are not developed overnight. Generally these are caused by ignoring the signals of nature, breach of the laws of nature and imbalance of 5 elements. Reasons may be one or more of the following …..
1. Wrong habit of eating and drinking. 2. Bad habit of smoking and drinking 3. Excess working of organs
4. Neglect of fundamental rules of hygiene
Illness starts in the in following manner…..
1. More accumulation of toxins which is signaled by less urination and stool. 2. Less appetite. Fire in the stomach becomes weak. The result is
constipation or loose motion.
3. Poor breathing practice leads to less oxygenation of the blood. So carbon dioxide and other toxins are not properly thrown out of body.
4. When body becomes weak, thyroid and parathyroid gland is affected first. Then other glands are affected.
Language of Our Body
2. Belching when stomach is full.
3. Pain or ache in particular part indicates congestion of carbon dioxide, air, water etc.
The running nose and sneezing shows body is throwing excess water. 4. Cough indicates body is feeling cold and trying to throw congestion of
throat and chest.
5. Itching shows greater flow of blood is required in that part of the body. 6. Fever indicates the battle between white cells and germs of the disease. 7. Pain in the heart indicates heart requires rest.
Recharge your battery 1. Perform pranayam 2. Drink lukewarm water
3. Reduce food intake and take green juice, fruit juice, green salad, fruit and buttermilk.
4. Have sound sleep Charged Water
Acupressure
When you press a certain point, a powerful current is sent to corresponding organ which helps to clear toxins and make organ work effectively.
Emotional Health
Happiness
• Happiness is the state of pleasure and contentment.
• Emotions and thoughts are controlled by neuro-hormones or chemicals in the brain. Brain impulses jump from cell to cell and change composition of chemicals in the brain. Change of composition leads to change of behaviour, thoughts and emotions.
• Release of hormones during happiness and sadness is dopamine and steroid respectively. These hormones get mixed up blood stream and circulated in whole body. Therefore mind can affect health and physiology of entire body.
• People with happy and positive attitude have more immunological cell count. Therefore they can combat disease better.
(National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Science)
Mental Health
1. Lower Mind- It helps in functioning of body parts like respiratory, digestive, circulatory systems etc. All negative thoughts like fear, hate etc. are created in this portion.
2. Middle Mind- It is the centre of giving solutions. It analyzes various ideas, weighs visible options and decides.
3. Higher Mind- It gives creativity, inspiration, joy and other positive thoughts.
Unconscious Mind
It gathers information of our immediate past and of past births. It contains our ego and soul. Ego shows false picture of the world as its functioning is based on available information. On contrary soul gives right and true picture. Meditation
It is the internal journey of mind which starts from lower mind and ends at soul, Samadhi or self actualization.
• Meditation gives complete rest to body and mind which we do not get during sleep also. Therefore it is useful for eradication of diseases.
1. Active Meditation - Karma and Bhakti Yoga.
2. Passive Meditation – Gives better results than active meditation. Sit in an asana and do the following….
• Concentrate your mind on one point. Be it idol, star or golden egg. It gives peace of mind.
• In second stage many negative thoughts, memories and pictures come. Analyze your personality and throw out demerits.
• You are in higher mind and you see infinite source of power and knowledge.
• In last stage you reach the unconscious mind, explore soul and realize self actualization.
Spiritual Health
-Swami Budhanand, Advait Ashram, Pithoragarh
• Think positive and make favourable climate for changing constitution of mind.
• Mind has 3 properties/gunas- Satvic, Rajsic, Tamsic • Ten causes are useful for developing satva….
1. Water - Use pure water
2. People – Have company of good people 3. Place
5. Birth
6. Work – Healthy occupation of mind 7. Scripture – Read good books
8. Mantra – Chant mantra or name of god for control over mind. 9. Meditation - Inward journey of mind.
10. Purification
• Sit behind mind and think – I am separate from mind, I am free, divine, infinite, immortal, and identical with supreme. God is with me.
• Just be witness - do not get attached to mental states, do not give any decision good or bad.
• Keep a sharp eye on mind.
• Conscious mind affects unconscious mind and vice versa. • Believe in god otherwise believe in yourself.
• Enjoy every moment of the life which is presented to you. Do not get in Maya i.e. past or future
Veda
1. Atharva-Veda 2. Rig-Veda 3. Sam-Veda 4. Yazur-Veda
Patanjali Yog Sutra – 150 B.C.
-Swami Chetananand, Ram Krishna Mission and Swami Satyanand Saraswati, Bihar Yog Vidyalaya
There are 8 limbs of Astanga Yog (Raj Yog) of Patanjali Yog sutra. These are useful for making one strong in 4 aspects of health – physical, mental, spiritual and moral health. On this journey one needs to proceed in following manner…..
External Factors
1. Yam – Deals with purity of thought, word and deed. To achieve this satisfaction, faith, and surrender to god is essential.
a) Satya – Follow the path of Satya because falsehood creates mental tension.
b) Ahinsa – Follow this by mind and body.
c) Asteya – Do not steal anything and live with honesty.
d) Bramahcharya – Conserve the energy and transform it in to spiritual power.
2. Niyam – These are required for purification of body.
a) Shauch - Proper diet and regular bath are essential for this.
b) Santosh – Internal satisfaction is must to cope with ups and downs. c) Tap – Fasting and silence is very useful. But do not press the mind. d) Swadhyay – Self study, witnessing and analysis is useful for
learning.
e) Samarpan – Forget self ego and surrender everything to god.
3. Asana – These are necessary for maintaining health and preventing diseases. Sit comfortably with straight spine.
4. Pranayam – Breath control helps in control of mind as well as useful for proper functioning of endocrine glands. It is useful for connecting body with mind. Controlled flow of pran is necessary for preventing diseases.
5. Pratyahar – It deals with turning mind inward from outward world. Internal Factors
6. Dharna – Focus internally on one object, image or mantra. Mind gets distracted frequently and we pull it again.
7. Dhyan – When one is able to fix mind from few seconds to few minutes, one is said to be in Dhyan/ meditation.
8. Samadhi – When one is totally absorbed in one for hours together, one is said to be in state of Samadhi. One attains self knowledge or self actualization.
Yoga – Technique of joining atman/spirit with paramatma/god.
1. Karma Yoga
Do your job consciously. Do not have any ego and worry of result. If you finish your work in best possible way, you have done it. In this way you lose your ego and attain god.
2. Bhakti Yoga
It is related to complete devotion of one person toward personal god. He remembers the god by sat sang, prayer, Jap etc. and loves a lot to his god. In this process he loses his ego and attains god.
3. Raj Yoga
Love and control of mind. Patanjali yoga is famous among Buddhist. 4. Gyan Yoga
God is felt through knowledge. 5. Kundalini Yoga
Some chakras are already active in some persons. So their behaviour matches with qualities of that chakra.
Asana, pranayam, mudra, bandh and mantra jap are useful techniques for awakening of chakras. One has to concentrate on one particular chakra for awakening it.
6. Hath Yoga
It is mainly related to awakening of chakras by cleaning of body parts. Chhatkarma are prevalent methods for this….
a) Neti – Cleaning of nose
b) Dhauti – Cleaning of mouth, intestine and anus. c) Nauli – Massaging on stomach muscles
d) Basti – Cleaning of intestine
e) Kapalbhati – Cleaning of forehead.
f) Tratak – Method for increasing concentration. Focus continuously on one object either internally or externally.
7. Mantra Yoga
These are useful for increasing concentration. Mantra and Jap stops other thoughts which otherwise enter the mind.
All audible sound waves are heard by ears and stored in brain as memory. This memory remains present in the brain in the form of chemicals.
• “Ham” the root mantra energises air element at thyroid gland.
• Mantras are chanted in mix of 3 notes…Ni, SA, Re which makes brain waves slower and steady. This is helpful in increasing concentration.
• “Ohm” heals and strengthens a particular organ when chanted by focusing on that organ.
• Power of silent mantras is much more than mantras chanted by voice. Silent thoughts travel faster, farther and deeper.
8. Tantra Yoga
Tantra and yoga are 2 different methods for achieving the same thing. Yoga stresses on need to convert youth energy in spiritual energy. Tantra says use the experience of intercourse for realisation of self.
