GAS PROTECTION SYSTEMS
Solco Building Products provide the complete gas protection system for the protection of buildings on contaminated land. Bluebay Building Products are the exclusive distributor of the Solco range of Solshield, Solseal and Solsheet Gas Protection Systems.
These innovative products have been specifi cally designed to offer the most complete range of solutions for effective protection of buildings from the ingression of natural and radioactive gases such as radon, carbon dioxide, methane and hydrocarbons. The most recognised means of protecting buildings from gas ingress are through the installation of a concrete fl oor slab combined with a suitable gas resistant barrier in conjunction with a passive venting system.
Traditional polythene damp proof membranes are not recommended for protecting gas on
contaminated land therefore it is suggested that a specialist gas membrane and ventilation system is specifi ed to protect against all relevant gases and contaminants. When installed in accordance with the relevant codes of practice, Solco gas systems provide a defensive barrier to gas ingress as well as a suitable damp proof membrane.
Solco Gas Membranes are impermeable and act as barrier to gas ingress and should be continuous beneath the full ground fl oor plan of the building. Solco are able to offer full protection against the ingress of harmful carbon dioxide, methane, radon, and hydrocarbon gases when used in conjunction with Solco Gas Resistant DPCs, Jointing Systems and Gas Resistant Self Adhesive Membrane’s Solco Gas Ventilation System, when installed with a Solco Gas Barrier Membrane, helps reduce and disperse concentrations of gases emitting from the ground
to acceptable levels.
Solco Gas Venting Systems include all necessary accessories to suit the project specifi cation. We are able to provide CAD drawings as well as standard detailing and technical advice in order to support the design on a any specifi c gas ventilation system.

Self Adhesive Membrane
SOLSHEET Gas Resistant Self Adhesive Membrane is a preformed waterproofi ng system
with resistance to Methane, Radon and Carbon Dioxide . Resistance to gas is achieved by a laminate of aluminium and polythene fi lms.
The membrane is protected on the self adhesive side with a silicone coated release fi lm. SOLSHEET Self Adhesive Membrane conforms to the requirements of BS 8102. Substrates should be primed with SOLCO Tanking Primer prior to application.

67 SOLSHIELD Ultra Gas Barrier is a fl exible, loose laid proprietary gas barrier for use on sites
with Radon (RN), Carbon Dioxide (Co2), Methane (CH4) and Hydrocarbon Vapours where it is separated from the ground e.g. above a block and beam fl oor. SOLSHIELD Ultra Gas Barrier is silver on the underside and is green on the topside.
The barrier is manufactured by an extrusion/coating process which incorporates a two layer low density polyethylene membrane with a polypropylene reinforcement grid and an aluminium foil core. The membrane is extremely fl exible for ease
of installation and is robust enough to cope with site conditions.
SOLSHIELD Ultra Gas Barrier will also protect against damp and therefore will act as a DPM and satisfy Approved Document C.

SOLSHIELD Geocomposite drainage and venting mat is a cavity drain former manufactured from a dimpled H.D.P.E. core bonded to a nonwoven polypropylene geotextile fi lter membrane designed to provide a drainage / venting channel in fl oor and wall construction.
Geocomposite drainage and venting mat may be used in fl oors and walls to provide a drainage / venting void beneath the concrete to relieve both water and gas pressures, suitable to provide grade 4 protection as defi ned in BS 8102: 1990. “Protection of structures against water from the ground”.
The HDPE core provides high strength to resist the loads imposed by placing wet concrete. Geocomposite drainage and venting mat is designed to be placed with the geotextile fi lter layer facing the direction of water seepage or backfi ll.
