DOES ANYONE STILL MAKE NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS?
After schoollast Friday afternoon, I had our teaching staff over to my house to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s. As a part of the celebration, we had a toast, shared a drink and some food, and I opened a Christmas gift that they gave me, which were gift cards to some of my favorite places in town: Nueve, Denny’s and the AMC Theaters.
While we were sitting around and talking, I was curious if any of them made a New Year’s Resolution. To my surprise only one out of the eight said that they had made a New Year’s Resolution. When I asked what the resolution was, she said, “To
declutter my life. starting with my house.” I then asked the others why they didn’t make resolutions. One said, “I don’t see a need to make a resolution that I know I won’t keep.” Another said, ‘I attempt every day to live my life better, so I don’t feel like I need to make a resolution.” One of the last comments was a flat-out, “I just don’t make resolutions.”
I don’t know why more of us don’t make resolutions. Maybe we are afraid of the disappointment we’ll feel if we make them and don’t keep them. Maybe we have tried before and we haven’t succeeded, so why try again? Maybe we feel like we have so many demands placed on us that we don’t want to add one more to our lives.
Whatever the reason is for why we don’t make resolutions, I would encourage us to consider doing just the opposite and make one. The resolution that we make doesn’t have to be anything huge. It could be something very simple like to pray an Our Father every day for a special prayer intention. It could be to go through our sock drawer and give away the pairs of socks that we haven’t worn in the past year. It could be that we are going to be more intentional about saying words “thank you” to those who do nice things for us.
Making New Year’s Resolutions are one small way to keep us focused on making our world a better place. If one of us makes a resolution and it inspires another to do the same, then our world is already better for it. If you made a resolution and have already stopped, then let these words be an invitation to engage it again. If you didn’t make one, then let this be an invitation to make one, thus helping yourself and others.
I am happy to say that I did make a resolution, and it is to be more present to the moment that I am in. Because the more present I can be to the moment, the more present I can be to God and his power working in my life and the lives of others. Fr. Carl McCarthy

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone again
who helped with the Christmas Food Baskets. We made
a difference in several people’s lives, but now the

inundated with people who need help with clothing,

of personal issues and migra on to warmer places during
the winter. If you can volunteer for three to six hours per
week, it would be great! The more the be er! And if you
can cashier, that would be priceless! Thank you and God
bless! John Clark, St. Vincent de Paul Society President

The National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, located in Washington, D.C., is the largest Roman Catholic church in North America. Its construction of Neo-Byzantine architecture began in 1920 and was completed in 2017 with the dedication and solemn blessing of the Trinity Dome mosaic. The basilica houses 81 chapels honoring Mary and reflecting the origins of the Catholic immigrants and religious orders whose generosity erected them. The National Shrine does not have its own parish community, but serves the adjacent
Catholic University of America. It has been visited by
Pope St. John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis. Over one million people visit it each year.

YOUTH, FRIENDS, FAMILY, and ALL PARISHIONERS
WHAT:
INVITATION TO WINTER JAM 2020 —
Since its formation by NewSong in 1995, The Winter Jam Tour Spectacular hasfeatured many of the top names in Christian music, including TobyMac, Skillet, Hillsong UNITED, Lecrae, Lauren Daigle, Newsboys and more! The tour has also been a launching pad for great artists such as for KING & COUNTRY, Francesca Battistelli, and Sidewalk Prophets. Winter Jam is an incredible evening of live concerts by the top artists in Christian music, plus worship and ministry, to encourage believers and share the good news with those who have yet to trust Christ. When you attend a Winter Jam event, you can count on ministry being the main focus. From a single concert in Greenville to the largest annual tour in the world, God has continued to bless Winter Jam, so we are excited to continue to be a part of what He is doing and look forward to what He is going to do in the future!
WHERE:
EVANSVILLE, IN
WHEN:

(Meet at the Parish Center at 4:00 PM to ride up together!)DETAILS
: Christ the King Youth Ministry is sponsoring a trip to the 2020 Winter Jam. All Youth, family, friends, and
all parishioners are invited to attend! Tickets cost $15 and CTKYM will cover ALL COST for Youth Members. We are meeting at the Parish Hall at 4:00 PM on Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020 to depart for Evansville. We will be stopping for a quick meal prior to the concert and CTKYM will cover the cost of the food. We will return from Evansville and be back at the Parish Hall by 12:00 AM. If you need us to pick up/drop off a Youth Member at home, we can accommodate! Families are certainly able to drive separately and can meet the group at the venue. It is a school night and we will return late. This concert will feature thousands of young people coming together to celebrate God. This is an incredibly powerful experience. It is not often that youth ministry will seek to keep your children out late on a school night; however, we believe this experience provides an opportunity for the youth of the parish to have an encounter with God. Fr. Carl, Robin and James will be chaperoning the event and will insure all Youth stick together, are safe, and fed!
HOW TO SIGNUP:
Please let Robin, James, or Fr. Carl know you’re onboard by January 26, 2020 so we can pick-up
