Merit badges are great, right? So isn't it just great to now have a new
and refurbished Troop Library where all of the troop's merit badge
books are stored? There are about 25 new additions to the library,
including: Archery, Astronomy, Climbing, Geocaching, Robotics,
Search and Rescue, Shotgun Shooting, and Sustainability. With all
these books, there should be at least one book for every merit badge offered at
Summer Camp this year. In the Library, we have the new Sustainability merit
badge book that is an Eagle required alternative to Environmental Science.
Cooking merit badge is now Eagle required and the library has the new Eagle
required version of the book. The contents of the library are online and the link to
see this is as follows: http://www.troop363.us/forms-downloads. I hope this gets
you guys more excited for going out and trying new and entertaining merit badges.

Eagle Scout Daniel Receives Hornaday Award
It is our distinct pleasure to recognize Eagle Scout Daniel as the recipient of the William T. Hornaday Bronze Medal. Daniel received this honor on Feb. 27th at the Potawatomi Council Recognition Dinner. Daniel has completed four different projects over the last three years concerning the improvement the community's environment. The William T. Hornaday award is like the Olympic Medal bestowed by the Earth. In 1914 Dr. Hornaday was an active and
outspoken champion of natural resource conservation. He created the Wildlife Protection Medal to challenge Americans to work for wildlife conservation and habitat protection. The award was renamed in Dr. Hornaday's honor after his death in 1937, and became a BSA award.
Approximately 1,100 medals have been awarded since 1917.

Daniel received the William T. Hornaday Badge for this project. His second project included restoring the Stute Spring Stream in the Kettle Moraine State Forest. This included removing watercress an invasive species from the stream. This project assisted in bringing the native Brook Trout back to the Kettle Moraine State Forest. Next he organized a group of
volunteers to aid in clearing an Oak Savanna of downed debris to prepare for a controlled burn in Mukwonago County Park. Without the presence of fire, shrubs and invasive species will thrive within the Oak Savanna. The
controlled burn removes the undesired flora and leaves the native species unharmed. Daniel will receive the William T. Hornaday Bronze Medal for these projects.
Daniels fourth project included the removal of a beaver dam to restore the headwaters of the Mukwonago River. Through removing the beaver dam the pond drains properly so that the Mukwonago River remains one of the cleanest and purest river systems in Wisconsin. For these projects, Daniel is a candidate for the William T. Hornaday Silver Medal. The Silver Medal is the highest possible attainment in conservation for a Boy Scout. We thank you Daniel, for your outstanding work and desire to keep Mukwonago area park
systems and waterways beautiful for the next generations to come. Please give Daniel a well deserved congratulations. ~ Clay
