• Exam will be offered as a computer-based exam starting December 2007

Exam Application Process
• Read the 2007 HRCI California Certification Exam handbook thoroughly (available online or by request)
• Visit www.hrci.orgfor application materials • Pay attention to the deadlines:
• April 22 Exam: Deadline is March 23 (Apr 6 late deadline) • June 24 Exam: Deadline is May 23 (Jun 8 late deadline)
• December Window: Deadline is October 12 (Nov 16 late deadline) • December Window: Deadline is October 12 (Nov 16 late deadline) • Schedule your appointment early
Exam Preparation
• Read the body of knowledge (test specifications) • Decide on your personal study style:
• Self-study--California Learning System, California employment law reference books, etc.
• Study groups—chapters, employer groups, etc. • Preparation classes—universities, SHRM, etc.
HRCI does not endorse any particular preparation programs and multiple resources should be used when preparing for this exam.
After the Exam
• Immediate pass/fail status will not be available for paper/pencil testing.
• Detailed exam results will be mailed to your home address within three weeks of testing.
• If you pass, your certificate and pin will arrive with your score report.
Certification Benefits

Recertification
• Sixty (60) hours of recertification credit is required every three years OR must retake exam
• Credit may be earned in the following categories: • Continuing Education – no maximum hours
• Instruction – 20 hour maximum • On-the-job – 20 hour maximum
• Research/publishing – 20 hour maximumResearch/publishing 20 hour maximum • Leadership – 10 hour maximum
Recertification
• PHR-CAs or SPHR-CAs must have 15 hours of the 60 in PHR CAs or SPHR CAs must have 15 hours of the 60 in California-specific activities

Programs
• Approved for Credit Program: Hosts of HR-related continuing education activities can submit individual HR-related education activities for pre-approval toward recertification credit.
• Approved Provider Program: Providers of multiple HR-related continuing education activities are approved for 3 years.
• Recertification credit is awarded on an hour-for-hour basis for time spent in the educational activity.
