Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: My password isn’t working
A: Call the IT help desk in Lafayette. Your password may have expired, or may need to be reset. Call 800-235-2452 and ask for the “Help Desk.”
Q: What is “VPN?”
A: VPN is “Virtual Private Network.” It creates a secure
connection between the computer you are working on and PHI’s computer servers. It needs to be installed on a computer for it to work and therefore can only be used on company
computers. You need to be “VPN Connected” to access email through Outlook, but you DO NOT need VPN to connect with
WebMail.
Q: WebMail, Outlook, SharePoint… I just want to check
my email!!
A: No matter how you access it, your email is all stored on one server (computer) at PHI. Outlook and WebMail are two means of getting at it, and SharePoint simply has a link to the WebMail

access page. Relate it to traveling to your local grocery store. You can take many different streets or routes to get there, but ultimately you wind up at the same store to get your groceries. Same premise; you can travel different routes, but ultimately you wind up getting at your email. By far the easiest method to access your personal PHI email account is through WebMail.
Q: “manassasmedical”, “baltimoremechanics”, “jdunham”
What’s with all the usernames??
A: Each employee has there own personal PHI email account. They are normally assigned using the first initial of your first name, followed by your last name. In addition, all of the desktop or public computers owned by PHI have a username attached to them with. Hence, the desk on the pilot’s desk in Winchester is named “winchesterpilots”. You personal email is best accessed through WebMail. Group email accounts attached to base computers are programmed to be accessed through Microsoft Outlook.
Q: As a staff member of PHI Air Medical Northeast, what is
expected of me in regards to email and the internet.
A: 1) Check your PHI email at least once during each duty shift. 2) Check SharePoint at least once during each duty shift. 3) During your days off, try to check you email and SharePoint
as much as possible. While surfing the web it only takes a few extra seconds to check in and get up to date. Important info may be there waiting for you.
4) Always follow the PHI Internet and Email policies regarding usage and content.

Q: How can I find someone’s PHI username?
A: The vast majority of time their username is the first initial of their first name, followed by there last name followed by @phihelico.com. (example: [email protected])
Tip: When you are creating a new email message, type the first few letters of the recipients last name into the “To” box. Then click on the “Check Names” icon directly above. This will search the PHI address book and either auto fill your selection, or give you a list to choose from.
