FaxCore 2007 Getting Started Guide
Setting up Windows 2003
This only applies to FaxCore appliances. When the server is turned on for the first time, please enter Windows 2003 serial number located on the chassis of the appliance. Once that is done, the next installation processes are similar with every typical Window OS installation. Administrator will need to setup time zone, computer name, administrator’s password and etc.

Fax Board Driver Installation.
1. Before running the fax driver installation, be sure that the fax board is installed in the server. Then run fax driver setup, boston-driver.exe, which is located in FaxCore setup folder. The default driver installation path is C:\Program Files\Brooktrout.
2. Once the driver has been successfully installed, please run configtool.exe in C:\Program Files\Brooktrout\Bin folder. This will automatically detect and configure the type of boards you have installed in the server.
3. Be sure the Save and Apply configuration is CHECKED.
MS Office Installation.
1. In order for FaxCore to support MS Office file formats, MS Office must be installed on the FaxCore server. 2. After the installation, please make sure you open each of the Office applications one time in order to
register them and also check for updates from Microsoft website.
Note: The FaxCore server can convert (to fax) many native file formats as long as the application the installed locally in the server. For instance, if you need FaxCore to support PDF then Adobe Reader is needed to be installed locally on the server.
Registering Fax Agent.
1. Open the FaxAgent.exe.config with Notepad, locate this section.

2. Save the file and Exit.

This service need to run under user/administrator account, therefore if there changes of password, please make the necessary replication to this service in order for it to start correctly.

FaxCore user and administrator login site – if you are working on the FaxCore Server.
1. Open Internet Explorer. 2. User – http://localhost
3. Admin – http://localhost/admin
4. Replace ‘localhost’ with the server name if you are connecting to the server over the LAN Default administrator username “admin” and password “password”.
Setting Up Outbound Faxing and Outbound Routing
In order for FaxCore to send faxes, at least one Outbound Routing rule must be setup. 1. Login as Administrator at http://localhost/admin.
2. Click on Outbound Routings and New.
3. Configure exactly like the diagram below and click Save.
Note: This outbound routing rule will process all outbound faxes, with any dial string (*), using all the available fax lines/ports.
Enabling Fax Ports
1. Login as administrator at http://localhost/admin
2. Click on Network Settings > Fax Agent > Ports
3. Configure the available fax ports based on your requirements and click Save.
Email Relay Setup
Once an email relay is setup, FaxCore will use it for email sending and email notifications. 1. Login as administrator at http://localhost/admin
2. Click on Domain Server Settings > Relay Server Settings.
3. Please configure your relay email settings and Save.
4. You are now able to send a test fax from the User Interface (using the Admin account). If you would like to test the email notifications, edit the Admin profile in Settings, Personal Info, from the FaxCore UI.
Creating FaxCore User.
There are 2 ways to create users in FaxCore: 1. Manual User Creation.
2. Active Directory Synchronization.
Manual User Creation
1. Login as administrator at http://localhost/admin
2. Click on Domain Management > Users > New
3. A pop up window will appear, most importantly make sure you enter a username, password and setup
notification addresses before clicking Save.
Active Directory Synchronization
This process requires Admin rights on your AD server in order for the users in AD to be created within the FaxCore database.
1. Log into FaxCore as administrator at http://localhost/admin
2. Click on Domain Settings > Directory Sync.
3. Please enter the correct value for your Logon Server, Logon Username and Logon Password.
4. If you are unsure about the logon credential, you can use the Test Connection option on the toolbar. 5. Once all settings has been done click on Save Settings.
6. To simulate the synchronization processes please use the Read Directory option. 7. To synchronize the users to FaxCore, please use the Execute option.
