Admission Policy
Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences has established the Pharmacy Major as a four-year doctorate program of our Graduate School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to provide graduates from the Department of Pharmacy (6-year course) under the new education system. It is designed to help students develop a wide perspective and highly specialized research ability in the clinical pharmaceutical field so that they will be able to contribute to maintaining and promoting people’s health and preventing and treating diseases with high-level knowledge and skills.
The Training Course for Cancer Specialist Pharmacists provided as part of this doctorate program aims to develop highly trained specialists in cancer chemotherapy.
The Pharmacy Major program also provides students who have completed the first-term doctorate program of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Major of our Graduate School with educational and research opportunities in the clinical pharmaceutical field. Furthermore, this doctorate program is also open to those already working as pharmacists, those engaged in the pharmaceutical sector, as well as those who have completed a Master’s program in other fields or of other universities and who have a certain level of knowledge and abilities in education and research activities.
The Pharmacy Major seeks students who aspire to play an active role in a clinical and medical setting, in the public sector, or in pharmaceutical or related business, thereby contributing to promoting people’s health and improving public health.

3. Application Eligibility (Applicants must fall under one of the following criteria.)
1) Persons who have completed, or are expected to complete by March 31, 2016, a pharmaceutical (six-year program), medical, dental or veterinary course of a university.
2) Persons to whom a Master’s degree has been granted or is expected to be granted by March 31, 2016. 3) Persons to whom a degree equivalent to a Master’s degree has been granted in a country other than Japan. 4) Persons who will be at least 24 years of age by March 31, 2016 and are recognized by the Graduate School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences through individual screening of eligibility for admission as having academic ability equal to or higher than that of a person who has a Master’s degree.
5) Persons who have obtained a pharmacist qualification and have at least three years of practical experience as a pharmacist. (Before applying, each applicant is required to check whether his/her practical experience has satisfied the criteria set by the Graduate School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.)

residence status) must meet one of the above requirements and must be a “resident of Japan” at the time of application. Those who are staying in Japan with “short-term stay” status are not recognized as a “resident.” Moreover, non-Japanese applicants must acquire or extend a visa with the status of “College Student,” as stipulated in the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act of Japan after entering the Graduate School.
4. Application Period
1) Application Period: February 29 (Mon.) to March 4 (Fri.), 2016
2) When submitting application documents in person: 9:30–11:30, 13:00–16:30
3) When submitting application documents by post: they must be registered and sent by express mail to the Admission Division of Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Only applications that are postmarked within the designated application period will be considered valid. The enclosed must be in an envelope marked in red as follows: “Application Documents for the Pharmacy Major (four-year course), Graduate School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Enclosed.”
5. Application Procedure
Applicants are required to submit the following documents, together with an application fee of 20,000 yen (a postal money order when an application is made by post), within the designated application period. (Those who have graduated or are expected to graduate from Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences are exempt from this fee.)

A designated application form must be used, to which a photograph taken within three months of the application submission must be attached.

When application documents are submitted by post, a self-addressed return envelope with a 362-yen stamp affixed is necessary for sending an examination admission card to the applicant.
7) Certificate of Health
There is no need to submit a certificate of health, if the applicant is a Japanese. If you are physically impaired and need special assistance in the entrance examination and/or course attendance, please contact the Admission Division in advance.
8) Thesis Research Presentation Data
Applicants are required to submit their graduation research presentation data (recorded in a CD-R in Microsoft’s PowerPoint format) to the Admission Division no later than 10:00 a.m. on the day of the examination.

11) The original of a score report of the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students*2 (Japanese, two subjects from science, and mathematics (course 1)) held in 2014 or 2015
(The original of the score report will be returned to the applicant on the day of the examination.)
In the test of Japanese as a foreign language (excluding writing), a score of 240 or higher must have been achieved, and a score of 30 or higher in writing.

6. Screening Process
Successful applicants will be selected based on a written examination,*3 an interview (oral examination),*4 and
the documents submitted.

8. Announcement of Successful Applicants
March 16 (Wed.), 2016
The application numbers of successful applicants will be posted at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and each applicant will receive the result of the screening in writing.
9. Enrollment Procedures
Detailed information on enrollment procedures will be sent to successful applicants. Admission of applicants who fail to carry out the required enrollment procedures is not permitted.
10. Admission Costs
1) Admission fee: 100,000 yen (Those who have graduated from, or have completed a course of, Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences are exempt from this fee.)
2) Tuition: 500,000 yen (per year)
In addition, 18,000 yen must be paid as an annual proxy collection fee (Ikuyukai Association fee).
11. Research Assistant (RA) System
Students enrolled in the Pharmacy Major are eligible to apply as a Research Assistant (RA), and receive remuneration for their work.
12. Others
