Foreword

The U.K Electricity industry has changed beyond recognition over

the last 20 years with the privatisation of the distribution sector,

the consolidation of the old regional electricity companies, the

emergence of independent network operator licenses and the

proliferation of renewable energy projects as the country drives to

create more green power.

The power cable accessories product portfolio has also changed with

the emergence of cold applied products to facilitate quicker installations,

separable connectors which enable the easy connection and disconnection

of cables from switchgear and more universally sized components that

cover a wider range of cables.

Jointing Technologies has prospered through this period of change to

become the U.K.’s leading power cable accessories distributor.

with market leading manufacturers, an in depth understanding of the

SCOPE OF ACTIVITY

Cable Accessories account for the least

capital expenditure in the electricity

distribution network when compared

with switchgear, transformers and

cable. They can however, prove to be

the weakest part of it; as they require

assembly on site. Therefore the correct

product selection, technical advice and

installation of power cable accessories

are essential to ensure the safe running

of the U.K. electricity network.

Jointing Technologies are a specialist power

cable accessories distributor with a national

coverage operating in the electricity and

associated markets at voltages up to and

including 132KV.

We work in partnership with market

leading manufacturers to service the core

electricity segments like the Distribution

Network Operators (DNOs), Independent

Network Service Operators (IDNOs), Power

Contractors, Cable Pullers and HV Jointers to

ensure that the right products are selected

and best technical advice is offered relative

to each application.

We are also in a unique position based on

our knowledge and insight at higher voltages

to supply LV products to the general electrical

market.

We hold in excess of £3 million of stock nationwide

to ensure we negate the long lead times from

manufacturers and fulfil customer demand quickly.

The Jointing Technologies fleet of 6 vans is utilised

to ensure we offer same and next day deliveries

nationwide and provide a unrivalled service to our

customers.

We employ 5 Sales Engineers who are tasked with the

development and support of our expanding customer

base in addition to providing the right technical advice

to aid with product selection.

Jointing Technologies’ knowledge of the U.K. electricity

network puts us in a unique position to advise on the

most suitable products and technologies based on each

LV & HV application to ensure all customers find the

safest and most reliable solutions.

The electricity network and the cables installed have changed significantly over the last 50 years;

which has created challenges for power contractors when jointing or terminating cables.

Therefore an in depth knowledge of cable construction is essential in identifying the correct cable accessory product.

Jointing Technologies has the technical knowledge and expertise to advise the power contracting market on

product selection and find a solution when OLD cables (Paper or Lead sheathed etc) are found buried and

manufacturers don’t have an off the shelf product available

We have over 35 years’ experience working with the electricity market to provide power contracting solutions

and offer product training, in conjunction with our market leading manufacturers, to our customer base.

We have a unique understanding of the product profiles

used by each customer segment and work closely

with the market leading manufactures to advise what

products have been approved for use on each respective

DNO network.

The U.K electricity distribution network is divided up

by distribution network operator (DNO) and region as

shown on the map below.

CASE STUDIES

Greater Gabbard Wind Farm

Greater Gabbard is one of the world’s largest offshore

wind farm with a 500MW capacity consisting of an

onshore facility linked by three 45km cables to an

offshore substation. This is supplied by 140 turbines

located 23km off the Suffolk coast and the facility is

expected to provide power to around 530,000 homes.

SSE & RWE NPower Renewables are developing this project with

Balfour Beatty who have been commissioned to undertake all the

electrical installation work for the project covering voltages up to

132kV.

Jointing Technologies have worked with Balfour Beatty design and

installation teams to ensure that the right power cable accessories

products were specified and supplied for the application in

addition to providing on site training where necessary on the

installation of these materials. Jointing Technologies scope of

supply included Pfisterer Connex terminations, a comprehensive

range of MV joints and terminations from Tyco Electronics and

single and trefoil cleats from Prysmian.

Jointing Technologies at the time of print have supplied over £1M

of materials into Greater Gabbard project and have demonstrated

our ability to work on one of the largest and most prestigious

projects in the world.

The Shard

Shard London Bridge is a skyscraper constructed

in south London which is the tallest building in

the European Union. The tower will stand 1,017ft

(310m) tall with 72 floors, plus 15 further

radiator floors in the roof. The building has been

designed with an irregular triangular shape from

the base to the top. It will be clad entirely in

glass and have an open-air observation deck on

the top floor. The building will consist of Office

space, a Spa, Residential Apartments and a

Shangri-La Hotel.

Jointing Technologies worked in conjunction with the main

contractor to ensure the right products were selected for

the application and supplied many products on this project

including MV terminations from Tyco Electronics, Separable

Connectors for 22kV cables from ABB in addition to a range

of cast iron cleats for FP cables from Prysmian and cable

support systems from Band-IT.

This is one of the many prestigious projects in the U.K

currently supplied by Jointing Technologies.
