When piping a potable water system, the bronze valves you’re using have an expiration date – Jan. 4, 2014.Over the past few years, California and several other states passed laws to regulate lead content in plumbing products used for potable water systems. The United States federal government followed suit, and U.S. Senate Bill S.3874 was signed into law. This new law dictates all pipe, valves and fittings in potable water systems contain less than 0.25% lead. The new national standards take effect January 2014.

To meet this challenge, Milwaukee Valve developed its lead-free* UltraPure® product line. Fully certified by indepen-dent testing agencies, the UltraPure line features robust alloys that exceed the strin-gent requirements of California’s AB 1953, as well as U.S. Senate Bill S.3874.

A valve for every application

By adding UltraPure valves to our exist-ing high-quality product lines, Milwaukee Valve remains your single source for virtu-ally every potable water application. From 1/4” bronze ball to 48” cast-iron butter-fly, you’ll find more than 10,000 valve types, sizes and configurations to meet your needs. Our experienced representa-tives can utilize this extensive line of prod-ucts to help you meet any water, HVAC installation, regulation and performance requirement.

Design and support you can count on

Not every valve is required to be lead-free. Milwaukee Valve’s trained sales rep-resentatives and the informative UltraPure website can show you where you need lead-free valves and where you don’t. From new construction installations to retrofits and

repairs, our superior valve quality, system design services, engineering expertise and onsite technical assistance help you save time and money.

Rick’s Plumbing Service, founded by

Rick Jurzyk, serves a variety of

custom-ers in Milford, Conn., and surrounding areas.

Jurzyk started using Viega ProPress when it was first introduced in the U.S. market and today the company will only use Viega’s ProPress fittings. Rick’s Plumbing employs a team of 15 plumb-ers who use Viega ProPress on a regular basis for a full range of commercial and residential projects.

Introduced in 2005, the patented Viega Smart Connect® feature helps installers easily identify unpressed con-nections during pressure testing and is avail-able on Viega ProPress, Viega ProPress for stainless, Viega MegaPress® and Viega PEX Press polymer fittings. With the Viega Smart Connect feature, Viega’s pipe-joining systems offer the only guaranteed method to identify unpressed connections.

“Awhile back, we installed the plumbing system in a new, 20,000-sq.-ft. home for a prominent community member,” Jurzyk says. “At the time, our supplier didn’t have enough Viega ProPress in stock to cover the tremen-dous amount of material needed for the job, but they were able to fulfill our order with another brand of press fittings. After the fam-ily had moved into the house, they began

experiencing numerous leaks. We went back and replaced everything with Viega ProPress fittings and that was the end of us using any other brands.”

The Viega ProPress systems use press fit-tings to make water-tight and air-tight con-nections with copper tubing and stainless-steel piping. The systems are comprised of valves in sizes 1/2-in. to 2 in. and fittings in sizes 1/2-in. to 4 in.; the Viega ProPress for stainless also includes stainless-steel pipe. It takes less than seven seconds to make a con-nection compared to more than an hour for other connection methods.

“We use Viega ProPress on any project that we can. For large jobs, our team presses more than 80% of the time,” Jurzyk says. “For the

most part we currently use Viega Pro-Press for copper, but when the oppor-tunity presents itself to use the stain-less system or the new Viega MegaPress for black-iron pipe, we won’t hesitate because we trust the Viega systems.”

The Viega Smart Connect feature is built directly into each fitting and identifi es every unpressed connection during system pressure tests, allow-ing Jurzyk to trust that every fittallow-ing will be safe, secure and reliable. Other brands of press fittings offer connection identifi cation methods based on seal-ing elements, which can be damaged or improperly installed and still give a false positive pressure test. Viega’s Smart Connect feature is the only method that consistently permits water or air past the sealing ele-ment to alert installers to any problems during pressure testing.

“Because I know that Viega’s press fit-tings won’t leak, we always have every size available and our suppliers know that we won’t press any other brand of fitting,” Jurzyk explains. “We tell them that it’s Viega ProPress or no press for us. When we install press fit-tings from Viega, we know that we aren’t going to have to go back and reinstall any of the fittings, which saves us on time and mate-rials as well as frustration.”

Smart Connect feature provides

peace of mind for leak-free connections
