‚Growing up in Bregenzerwald, there were plenty of opportunities to do all kinds of sports. I really like to combine skiing with eating good food and time to chill out. I regularly run in the forest, and go ice-skating and mountain-biking, depending on the season. We have exquisite restaurants here such as the Adler Schwarzenberg and Schwanen Bizau, where I love the Marillenknödel, dump-lings made of curd and filled with apricot jam; they are gorgeous.‘

ON HER HOTEL

‚I base Post Bezau on what makes me feel good. This applies to everything from the espresso at our bar to the sheets on the beds, the towels, the food and overall service. It is a very personal ap-proach. In the beginning the skincare and spa were only available to hotel guests. When I met Ingo Metzler, the cosmetics producer who lived in the next village, it was the starting point for the launch of my own collection in 2003. My in-terest in traditional Chinese medicine also began at that time.‘

ON DESIGN

‚Our minimal approach to the spa was a reaction to the overload of Alpine knick-knaks that seem to be the main attraction in places across the re-gion. That concept has worked for decades, but it didn‘t work for me anymore. I wanted to get back to basics and nature. My brother Oskar Leo is an architect and he designed my products, along with Johannes Norlander. We recommend our guests visit the Werkraum Bregenzerwald building; it was built by Peter Zumthor and is very impressive.‘

ON SKIING

‚Baumgarten, which is in Bezau - where I‘m from - is really small and old-school. Close to Bezau there‘s a lovely ski area called Mellau Damüls with wonderful slopes and views of the western Austrian Alps. Lech is very cool but I sometimes prefer going with my family to the easy pistes in Seiser Alm, Italy. Plus it has great restaurants. I like Haglöfs and Peak Perfomance for ski clot-hing, HEAD for skis and Fischer for ice skates. You can find all these brands in the shops around the slopes. Buy it where you use it is my advice.‘

ON TRAVEL

‚The safari lodges I‘ve visited in South Africa with my husband were superb, such as Belmond Savute Elephant Lodge in Botswana. It was a big adven-ture. But my favourite places are Ellerman House in Cape Town, Lizard Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Das Stue in Berlin, Chiltern Firehouse in London and Grand Hotel Timeo in Sicily. They are all truly authentic and have outstanding ser-vice. Next on my list is a trip to Copenhagen.‘

ON WHAT‘S NEW

‚We are about to launch a haircare range based on the Alpine hop plant, which we have been wor-king on with hairdresser Christoph Thoma. He has also opened an avant-garde salon at the hotel.‘
