Was This Pressure Ulcer Avoidable?

Legal Issues in Wound Care

Joyce M. Black, PhD, RN, CWCN, FAAN & Kathryn Cheatle, JD Pressure ulcers are one of the most common claims made against health care providers. This session will introduce you to the usual steps taken by the plaintiff and the defendant in legal claims. The cornerstone of defending the care provided is documentation and we will show you how to improve your documentation and how to handle missing documentation. Since being named in a lawsuit can be stressful, understanding your role and how to prepare for testimony will be covered.

Pharmacology Update for the WOC Nurse

Janice Beitz, PhD, RN, CS, CNOR, CWOCN, CRNP, APN, C, MAPWCA, FAAN Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing requires a solid understanding of pharmacological agents and their impact particularly on wound and ostomy care issues. This session will focus on updating attendees about crucial drug therapies for wound and ostomy care. The effect of drug therapies on impairing wound healing will also be included. Case studies will allow for application of learned material to clinical scenarios.
