TODAY’S GAME:
The IronPigs (3-5) play the finale of a two-game series against the Rochester Red Wings (4-5) at Coca-Cola Park. With an 8-5 win last night, the Pigs snapped a three-game losing streak and have started 1-2 on this six-game, North Division homestand... The Red Wings -- Minnesota’s top affiliate -- are now 1-3 against the Pigs and 4-2 against the rest of the North Division. Previously, they split a two-game series at Buffalo. Earlier this week, the IronPigs took a three-game series against the Wings, 2-1, at Frontier Field... The Pigs’ homestand will wrap up with a pair of games against the Syracuse Chiefs.
• Today is IronPigs Kickball Giveaway Day, presented by Adams Outdoor Advertising... First-Pitch is at 1:35 p.m. ABOUT LAST NIGHT...:
• The Pigs snapped a seven-game losing streak at Coca-Cola Park going back to 2015 (though 2 G were officially “road” games). • RHP Reinier Roibal (N/D, 3.0 IP, 5 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 K) made the first GS of his Triple-A career and 20th of his US pro career. • RHP Severino Gonzalez (N/D, 3.0 IP, 2 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K) hasn’t allowed an earned run in his 6 comb. outings in ’16 (AA/AAA). • RHP Andrew Bailey (BS, W, 1.2 IP, 1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) earned his first Triple-A win since 9/3/07 w/ SAC & 2nd of his career. • RHP Edward Mujica (SV, 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K) earned his first Triple-A SV since 5/17/08 w/ BUF (vs. LHV) & 24th of his IL career. CRANKING OUT THE HITS:
Last night, the Pigs recorded their 5th double-digit hit total (10) in the last 6 G -- during which time LHV is batting a combined .309 (59-191)... Currently, the Pigs rank 3rd in the IL with an overall team batting average of .278.
• LHV leads the IL (by far) in fewest strikeouts with just 37 K through 8 G. The next lowest total is LOU, which has 45 K in 7 G. TAYLOR-MADE:
After starting 0-3 on Opening Day, INF Taylor Featherson (1-4, R) has now hit safely in his last 5 G (8-16, .500-1-2, 2B, BB, 4 R). Perhaps more impressively, the 26-year-old infielder has reached base safely in 11 of his last 17 PA (8 hits, BB, 2 HBP) -- including a span of 7 consecutive PA from 4/12-4/14. A native of Houston, Featherson has started games at both 2b (3) and 3b (3). KNAPP-SACKER:
C Andrew Knapp (1-3, 2 RBI, BB, R) has reached base safely in 12 of his last 18 plate appearances -- with two of the outs recorded while being robbed of a hit (a leaping grab by ROC SS Wilfredo Tovar and a tough-luck, 1-4-3 putout)... Ranked as a Top 100 Prospect by Baseball America, the 24-year-old Knapp recorded the first Pigs HR of 2016 (4/12 @ ROC-G1).
CAM I AM!:
