The world is divided into 24 time zones.

Each time zone is one hour earlier than the one in the zone east of it. Greenwich time (GMT) is the basis to which all time zones are related. When it’s 12 o’clock in London, it’s 7 o’clock in the morning in New York. When it’s 1 p.m. (afternoon) in Paris, it’s 4 a.m. (morning) in Escondido. When it’s 1 p.m. (afternoon) in Paris, it’s 10 o’clock p.m. in Sydney.

Look at the four clock faces indicating the time differences between Paris (France), Greenwich (England), New York (USA), Los Angeles (USA).

4. Listen and match the words with the body parts.

The koala is a small marsupial. A marsupial mum keeps

her baby in a special pouch for protection while it grows up. The koalas live in eucalyptus (gum trees) in Australia. They spend 18 to 20 hours each day resting and sleeping.

The koala is 2 to 3 feet long and weighs 10 to 30 pounds. Its fur is light grey to brown and has white patches on the chest, neck and ears. They eat gum tree leaves.

DOROTHEA: I can’t see them! They’re running so fast!

1 mile = 1.6 km

The kangaroo is also a marsupial. It can hop up to 40 miles per hour! That’s really fast! How fast is that in kilometres per hour? 1.6 km x 40 = . Which two kangaroos are the same?
